Chapter 1 - Volume 1

Chapter 1: Sparse Shadows of the Winter Plum

Note: This is a crossover anime novel! Honkai: Star Rail is the main setting, with travel to other worlds.

Experiment No. 91

Objective: Create a hive-mind lifeform

Environment: Specialized culture dish

Method: Separation, stirring, heating

Materials: Rationality, queen bee fragments, ant antennae, moss

Expected Outcome: A moss-based hive-mind organism with hierarchical obedience

Result: Apex unit exploded 9 seconds after birth; all sub-units disintegrated

Failure Reason: Apex unit collapsed under cognitive overload

Disposal: Self-termination

A black-haired girl with a cold demeanor stopped writing and closed the experiment log.

Her name now was Ruan Mei. As a transmigrator, she had lived in this world for 18 years.

Her "benefit" was the body she now possessed—Ruan Mei, a 5-star character from Honkai: Star Rail, Genius Society #81, expert in life sciences.

She inherited the character's talents and became a prodigy in biology.

A pink creature suddenly popped up—long rabbit-like ears, a large fox-like tail.

"MIMI! (Another failed experiment, huh? But don't worry! Cheer up! It's just one experiment! Time to rest!)"

Ruan Mei smiled faintly and stood up, her ink-colored robe flowing like mist, revealing her pale legs.

"Alright," she said softly, her voice like shattered jade—calm, emotionless, yet gently warm.

Though she had become Ruan Mei, she retained human emotions.

The pink creature, Mimi, was created years ago out of loneliness, modeled after a memory.

"Hmm… what should I do now?" Ruan Mei frowned slightly. Her interests had faded over the years.

Her appearance, personality, and pursuits had gradually aligned with the Ruan Mei of her memories.

"MIMI… MIMI! (Let's watch a livestream!)" Mimi's eyes lit up.

"…So that's what you've been watching lately. Fine, if you like it."

So they walked to the living room and turned on the TV.

National Fate Battlefield Broadcast

"Thanks to Professor Situ's analysis, let's refocus on the scene."

"This round's mode is roguelike survival. Survive seven days to clear. Today is the final day."

"Our contestant Zhou Xiangyu, an active air force soldier, has shown excellent survival skills."

"He's evaded monster attacks for six days and reached the final day unharmed."

"Only 17 contestants remain: Zhou Xiangyu (China), Jack (United States), Ivan (Russia), Vance (Germany)…"

On screen: a determined soldier surviving in the wild.

Bullet comments fly across the screen:

"But there's a super boss today. Can he really clear it?"

"He didn't get good loot early on. His build is weak—no damage!"

"This isolation mode is brutal!"

Mimi floated beside Ruan Mei, worried.

The boss appeared: a massive, electrified gorilla with devastating attacks.

Zhou's defenses were broken. All other contestants had already failed.

The screen flashed: FAILURE. Bullet comments flooded in:

"Failed again!"

"Zhou Xiangyu, you did us proud!"

"Which city will get hit this time? Please not mine…"

"Hope it's not a strong beast…"

"Troops near my home are mobilizing."

Suddenly, the screen cut to red text:

12th National Fate Battlefield ended. Survivors: 0

Punishment: Beast Invasion in China in 30 minutes

13th Battlefield begins December 1. Contestants will be randomly selected.

Mimi drooped. "MIMI… (We failed…)"

Ruan Mei stroked Mimi's head. Then she realized—China is where I live.

"Thirty minutes until a beast invasion here?" she murmured.

Outside, chaos erupted. Sirens blared.

Her phone buzzed:

"Beast disaster in China in 30 minutes. Citizens must evacuate or shelter in place. Await military rescue."

Chapter 2: Beast Disaster

The National Fate Battlefield appeared on Earth three years ago.

Held every three months, each country selects a contestant.

Their performance determines national rewards—or disasters.

Failure brings calamities: earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis… or beast invasions.

Beasts are extradimensional monsters with bizarre forms and powers.

One invasion in Australia halved the continent's population.

It took six months to reclaim the land.

Ruan Mei is fascinated by these creatures—they're biologically unique.

But she's never been chosen to compete.

Now, the disaster is coming to her doorstep.

She steps outside.

The streets are chaotic.

Suddenly, a spatial rift tears open in the sky.

A dragon emerges—its body rotting, covered in white fungal threads.

It spreads glowing spores with every flap.

Ruan Mei analyzes:

"Parasitic, infectious, controlling—like a zombie virus. Reminds me of The Last of Us. Fascinating."

Mimi panics.

Ruan Mei calmly activates her power.

A ripple forms in the air.

She opens a black rift behind the dragon—

Then it was swallowed whole.

In under ten minutes, the threat is gone.

But the spores have begun infecting people.

Some collapse, choking.

To cure them, Ruan Mei must not only eliminate the fungus, but repair the damage it caused.
