The girl's eyes seemed to burn with an inner fire as she stalked towards Ava. But as she moved closer, Ava saw the faintest glimmer of sadness in her eyes.
"My name is Kaida," the girl whispered, her voice barely audible over the sound of her own growling. "And you're the one who's been awakened."
Kaida's gaze seemed to cloud over, and for a moment, Ava saw a glimmer of the person she used to be. The person she was before...
"Before the curse," Kaida spat, her voice venomous. "Before they took everything from me."
Kaida's eyes flashed with anger, and Ava took a step back, unsure of what to expect.
"I was once part of a pack," Kaida continued, her voice laced with bitterness. "A pack that was torn apart by those who didn't understand us. They hunted us, killed us, and left us for dead."
Kaida's gaze locked onto Ava's, and Ava saw the pain and anguish that lay beneath.
"But I didn't die," Kaida hissed. "I was cursed. Cursed to roam the earth, forever bound to the shadows."
Ava's heart went out to Kaida, despite the danger that seemed to emanate from her. She saw the pain and the hurt, and she knew that Kaida wasn't beyond redemption.
