Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Gin's Attention

After getting on the Great Pendulum, it was already two or three in the afternoon. The two of them arrived at the entrance to the roller coaster.

"Kazuha, Heiji, are you two going to ride the roller coaster as well?"

Ran's cheerful voice came from behind, followed by the sound of footsteps approaching.

"Yes, it looks like you two are too," said Kazuha, just as excited.

"I didn't want to come, I was forced to do so," said Kudo Shinichi reluctantly, not noticing the fleeting shadow of sadness in Ran's gaze.

Heiji shook his head. Kudo Shinichi's deductive ability was strong, but his emotional intelligence was truly at a negative number.

The four met at the entrance, and from there, there was still a ways to go to the area where they could board the roller coaster. Heiji and Kudo Shinichi walked ahead, while Kazuha and Ran followed silently, listening to their conversation.

In reality, it was Kudo Shinichi who was talking to himself, constantly rambling on about Sherlock Holmes.

Heiji had only become a detective out of obligation; he had no real interest in Sherlock Holmes. However, as a mechanic, it was crucial never to reveal one's internal thoughts in any situation. Because of this, even a detective with Kudo Shinichi's sharp perception couldn't notice Heiji's impatience.

"Ran, is Kudo always like this?"

Looking at Kudo Shinichi, who kept talking non-stop, Kazuha was a bit puzzled. The guy couldn't stop mentioning some Sherlock Holmes here and some Watson there. After hearing it for a while, it almost made her want to fall asleep.

[Thank goodness my Heiji isn't like him,] she thought to herself.

Ran smiled in resignation. "Shinichi is like this. He's a fan of Sherlock Holmes."

"Don't tell me he's been talking about that the entire time..." Kazuha said, as if she had suddenly realized something.

"Yes, since the date started, it's been all about Sherlock Holmes."

Saying this, Ran also felt a little disappointed.

Kazuha stood there, mouth agape, staring at Ran in amazement. "Has he been talking about that Sherlock Holmes since the beginning of the date?"

Ran forced a smile and nodded slightly.

Kazuha was speechless. She could only take Ran's hand to offer some comfort. She couldn't even imagine what kind of torture it must have been.

Unaware of all this, Kudo Shinichi continued to talk non-stop to Heiji.

"If you want to know what's most amazing about Sherlock Holmes, it's when he first met his assistant Watson. With just a handshake, he knew that Watson had been in Afghanistan as a military doctor, just like that..."

Suddenly, he grabbed the hand of a girl who was ahead of them.

"Ah!"

The gesture from Kudo Shinichi startled the woman.

"You mean to say this lady must have practiced gymnastics, right?" Heiji said resignedly.

"Ah, how did you know?" Kudo Shinichi asked, confused.

"Because as we were walking, a gust of wind lifted this lady's skirt, revealing the calluses on her legs that are only formed by practicing gymnastics," Heiji said, shrugging.

"Wow, looks like Heiji is a bit more impressive than Shinichi, huh?" Ran joked from behind, as a way to vent her displeasure.

"Actually, I also saw it, but Hattori beat me to it," Kudo Shinichi said, annoyed.

He had indeed seen it, but the skirt had only lifted for an instant, less than a second in total. He hadn't expected Heiji's observational skills to be so sharp.

It was at this moment that Kudo Shinichi started to look at Heiji seriously, considering him a rival.

"Ahem, I think you should let go of the girl's hand now," Heiji reminded him.

"Ah, sorry, sorry," Kudo Shinichi apologized, embarrassed.

"It's fine," the girl said, walking away, clearly lost in thought.

"Shinichi, you didn't do that on purpose, did you?" Ran asked suspiciously.

"Silly, how could I have done it on purpose?" Kudo Shinichi responded, exasperated at Ran's suspicion.

Boom!

Suddenly, someone bumped into Kudo Shinichi.

"Hey, be more careful while walking."

Two men dressed in black gave him a look and walked off.

"There's a murderous aura. That man had an intense murderous aura," Kudo Shinichi thought, shivering, and looked at Heiji gravely. "Hey, Hattori, did you feel it? Those two aren't normal."

Heiji looked at the two men, and his gaze met one of theirs, but his expression was completely calm.

"I didn't see anything unusual. Maybe you were mistaken."

The two men were Gin and Vodka from the Black Organization. It was impossible for Heiji not to recognize them, but he had his own plans. Kudo Shinichi had to become Edogawa Conan; otherwise, how would the "Little Shinigami of Elementary School" gift awaken?

To remove his evil value, the plot in which Kudo Shinichi became Edogawa Conan could not be altered under any circumstances.

Kudo Shinichi said nothing. He was sure he hadn't been mistaken. It seemed that Heiji's observational ability was still a little lacking.

"Brother, it's Kudo Shinichi," said Vodka quietly.

"More than Kudo Shinichi, I'm more interested in that other high school student," said Gin indifferently, looking at Heiji with a slight air of seriousness.

"That student? He's just a brat," said Vodka disdainfully of Heiji, forgetting that Kudo Shinichi was also a high school student.

"Don't underestimate him. When our gazes crossed earlier, he didn't show the slightest trace of surprise. He's definitely not a simple character. During the operation later, be careful. Don't let him track us," said Gin coldly.

"Understood, brother," Vodka's heart shrank. Gin's gaze was as cold as ice, and he didn't dare disobey him, though he still didn't think the student was anything special.

"Heiji, there are empty seats over there."

"Since it's the first time I'm meeting Hattori, can I sit with him?" said Kudo Shinichi, wanting to talk to Heiji, and got into the car with him.

Heiji shrugged and turned to Kazuha. He hadn't expected Kudo Shinichi to do something like this.

"Sorry, Kazuha," Ran apologized.

"Don't worry about it. I'm sure Kudo has something to say to Heiji. Anyway, Heiji and I see each other every day, it's no big deal to lose this little time," said Kazuha generously.

"Thanks, Kazuha."

Ran, of course, knew that Kazuha was being considerate of her feelings. After all, when you're on a date with your boyfriend, the natural thing is to want to spend time with him. What Shinichi had done was rather inconsiderate.
