Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Ran, Where is Kudo?

"How did you know, Hattori?"

"How did you know, young Hattori?"

Kudo Shinichi and Inspector Megure both asked at the same time, surprised.

Heiji didn't want to pay attention at first, but then he thought better of it: the more fame he had, the more important cases he would have access to, and a more important case could be an S-rank case.

S-rank cases were tied to 1000 points of evil. If he solved several cases like that, that enormous number of evil points wouldn't seem so terrifying anymore.

Heiji let go of Kazuha, but continued holding her hand. It was her first time being so close to a corpse, so it was normal for her to be scared. However, that wouldn't stop him from solving the case.

"Sir, we found a sharp knife with blood in this young lady's bag!"

At that moment, a police officer shouted from not too far away, pulling a knife from Miss Aiko's bag, which had blood stains.

"What?" Inspector Megure rushed over, nodding repeatedly. "Young Hattori, it seems you were wrong."

"No, I wasn't the murderer, it wasn't me!" Miss Aiko screamed, terrified.

"The evidence is here, you can't deny it. Take her to the station as the main suspect," ordered Inspector Megure.

"Yes, sir."

"It wasn't me, really! I didn't kill Kishiyama!" Miss Aiko collapsed to the ground, terrified.

"Inspector Megure, Miss Aiko isn't the murderer. It's impossible to decapitate a human with that knife, especially for a woman."

Kudo Shinichi was about to speak, but was interrupted once again by Heiji.

"Then, young Hattori, if you think Miss Hitomi is the murderer, you'll have to find evidence. Otherwise, you're making things very difficult for us," said Inspector Megure resignedly.

"Exactly, I'm not the murderer! Besides, I was sitting in the front row, how could I have killed Kishiyama in the third row?" Hitomi defended herself, nervously.

Heiji looked at Hitomi. In his past life, he was an assassin, he didn't have a soft or compassionate heart, and he wasn't going to forgive her just because she was a woman.

"Inspector Megure, please bring me some hemp rope and a hook. Also, I ask that you interpret the late Mr. Kishiyama and sit in the place he occupied."

"Understood."

Soon, Inspector Megure prepared everything as Heiji instructed.

Seeing this, Kudo Shinichi knew his rival had already solved the case. He crossed his arms, with nothing to do, and prepared to watch the show.

"Kudo, come here and impersonate Miss Hitomi."

"Me?" Kudo Shinichi asked, pointing to himself.

"Of course, didn't you want to be Holmes's assistant? Go ahead."

Kazuha's mood was still unstable, and Heiji wasn't going to let his girl suffer injustice over such a small case.

"The assistant of Holmes? Then I'd be Watson. What a guy," Kudo Shinichi grimaced in disgust but approached without further delay.

"I guess now Kudo is going to give the explanation, right?"

"Ah, if young Hattori hadn't mentioned it, I would have forgotten. Young Kudo, surely you knew the truth from the beginning, right?" That's when Inspector Megure remembered Kudo Shinichi.

"Yes..." Kudo Shinichi replied resignedly.

He then proceeded to show step by step how Hitomi had killed Kishiyama.

"It's true that this method could kill Mr. Kishiyama, but what about the evidence? Where is the evidence?" Hitomi screamed.

"Miss Hitomi, what about your necklace?" Heiji said calmly.

As if struck by lightning, Hitomi froze in place, and tears began to flow uncontrollably.

"Why did he have to abandon me? Why did he have to abandon me?!"

"Young Hattori, young Kudo, thank you so much for your help this time. I'll find a chance to properly thank you. Now, I'll take the culprit."

"I don't need your thanks," said Kudo Shinichi with a bitter smile.

"Fool, are you still scared?" Heiji pinched Kazuha's nose gently.

"But well! It was so close, it'd be weird if I wasn't scared," Kazuha complained in a spoiled way.

"You should train your courage a bit. Look, Ran isn't scared."

Upon hearing Heiji's compliment, Ran smiled bitterly. It wasn't that she wasn't scared, it's just that being scared didn't help.

"Ran is the national karate champion, how could she be scared?" Kudo Shinichi laughed from the side.

"!!! Shinichi!!!" Ran glared at Kudo Shinichi, feeling somewhat offended.

After that, Heiji took Kazuha away to continue having fun.

Although Kudo Shinichi was very interested in Heiji, he didn't stick to him. After all, the distance between Osaka and Tokyo wasn't much, and they would have plenty of time to see each other in the future.

Before he knew it, night fell.

"Heiji, I'm so tired."

After several hours of fun, Kazuha was exhausted.

"Of course, with a certain someone who kept shouting 'let's go to this one!' and 'now to that one!', it'd be weird if you weren't tired," Heiji said, wrapping his arm around her small waist while smiling.

"I really wanted to go on everything. It's my first time out with Heiji, so of course, I wanted to have fun. Because... you're the person I like the most, Heiji," Kazuha said with blushing cheeks.

Looking at her adorable face, Heiji wrapped his arms around her, tilted his head, and kissed her delicate pink lips directly.

"There are a lot of people around... mmm..."

Kazuha soon lost herself in Heiji's tenderness.

Although there were many people around, it wasn't unusual to see a young couple kissing in the street, especially in an amusement park, where it was even more common.

"Um... sorry to interrupt."

Kazuha snapped back to reality suddenly and quickly pulled away from Heiji's embrace, standing aside with her face completely red. She didn't mind when they were alone, but in public, she still maintained the modesty of a young lady.

"R... Ran?"

Seeing that it was Ran, Kazuha sighed in relief. At least it was someone she knew.

"Kazuha, you look so happy," Ran's expression was somewhat forced.

"What's wrong, Ran? And where's that Kudo?" Kazuha quickly took Ran's hand.

"He suddenly said he had something to take care of, rushed off, and told me to go home first."

Ran was somewhat disappointed. She had been waiting for this date for a long time, but Shinichi's behavior had been a great disappointment.
