Tonia's POV
"What do you want from me?" The words tore from my throat, my voice climbing higher as tears threatened to spill over.
"An apology." His tone remained flat, emotionless. "For keeping me in the dark about something so important."
"But you're the one who told me to stay away!"
"You could have sent a message or called. I despise finding out from other people, Tonia."
Damn Luna Estelle. Beautiful as she was, she had clearly failed at raising her son. The man before me was nothing but a manipulative beast.
"I'm sorry." The words felt like gravel in my mouth.
He pushed back from the table, stalking toward me with predatory grace.
"I can't hear you, Tonia."
What? I lifted my gaze to meet his just as a foolish tear escaped down my cheek.
"I said I'm sorry." The words barely made it past the tightness in my throat.
The humiliation burned through me. Here I was, apologizing when he was the one who had wronged me. Again and again.
