Kermit's POV

I never expected her to be this damn stubborn over a piece of jewelry.

From my suite window, I had a perfect view of where she sat like a statue, refusing to budge without that necklace. Hours passed, and she remained planted there with the kind of determination that would make generals jealous.

Curiosity got the better of me. I opened the locket.

Ashes.

The sight hit me like a punch to the gut. People stopped cremating bodies decades ago. The practice belonged to ancient times, yet here she was, carrying someone's remains around her neck.

Now I understood why she fought so hard for it. And against every logical thought in my head, I found myself walking outside to return it.

The fury in her eyes could have melted steel. I had never seen such raw anger directed at me before.

She stormed toward the gate, and something in my chest tightened as I watched her go.

The impact came out of nowhere.
