Liam's POV
Tonight was supposed to end differently. I had plans for Vivian that didn't involve leaving her apartment at ten in the evening. Plans that certainly didn't include this phone call from Hugo.
"She attacked someone," Hugo's voice crackled through my phone. "Female orderly. She's in surgery right now."
My knuckles went white against the steering wheel. I should have expected this. When someone doesn't know who's holding them captive, they get desperate. They lash out.
I just never imagined it would escalate this far.
Lying to Vivian had been necessary. Telling her it was just work business kept her from asking questions I couldn't answer. The last thing I needed was her insisting on coming along. That conversation would have been a nightmare I wasn't ready to handle.
Hugo was pacing by my Gilbert Pedro when I pulled into the facility's parking lot. He yanked my door open before I could even reach for the handle.
"Boss."
