For a second, I thought I was imagining things.
It couldn't be him. There was no way.
But it was. It was Kael.
I wanted to run to him, or call his name, or do something reckless that would give us both away. But instinct stopped me. If he was here, it meant there was a plan. And if there was a plan, I couldn't ruin it. So I had to stay put and pretend that everything was okay.
"Everything alright, Your Highness?" one of the guards asked.
I nodded. "Yes, everything's fine."
My eyes went back once more to where he was before but he was gone.
Across the room, my uncle was talking to one of the generals.
His expression was that of an excited man who had gotten his way but I knew my uncle was a very sharp man. If I didn't distract him, he might sense that something was wrong and find out that Kael was in the premises.
So I straightened my shoulders, fixed the loose strand of hair by my ear, and made my way toward him.
