Varyn's lips twitched and I was sure that was about to unleash his full wrath, his eyes kept moving between me and the dead man sprawled across the palace floor.
His hands were shaking, but his voice, when he finally spoke was smooth.
"That's a bold accusation, Seraphina," he said, forcing a dry laugh. "You can't possibly believe I'd have anything to do with this tragedy, can you?"
The press leaned forward, you could see the hungry expressions in their faces.
As much as he wanted to pretend like all was well, I could see the subtle panic beneath his calm facade and it brought an extremely warm sensation to my chest.
Seraphina didn't move, whatever boldness that had made its way to her face was impressive.
"Then explain it," she said, her tone eerily calm. "How does a man with our family's insignia end up among assassins?"
