Grand Line, Amazon Lily, Daughter Island!
The battle against Amazon Lily, ordered by the World Government and carried out by the Navy, ended with the navy's retreat and Daughter Island's temporary victory.
Although the new Navy Admiral Akainu was furious, the naval fleet assigned to support was completely destroyed. Coupled with the appearance of the legendary pirate, Pluto Rayleigh, the navy's chances of winning had been further reduced.
At the same time, the New World was shaken. The navy had to invest tremendous resources to defend its spheres of influence, making it impossible to send another fleet to assist.
Finally, at the suggestion of Admiral Kizaru, Akainu said a few harsh words to Victor and his allies, then chose to retreat. With most of their warships destroyed, the surviving navy soldiers had no choice but to cram into the remaining two ships to return home.
Two large naval fleets—twenty top-class warships, a naval admiral, and a naval marshal—had been reduced to only two ships. Even the people of Daughter Island found this unbelievable.
"Uncle Rayleigh! Thank you so much for today!!"
After the navy retreated, at Straw Hat Luffy's suggestion, who had come with Rayleigh for fun, the Amazon Lily Kingdom held a national celebration banquet. Even Hawkeye, Enel, and others were granted temporary permission to enter the island.
Later, after repeated requests from Victor, Hawkeye finally brought out half a box of Red Star Erguotou for Rayleigh, Enel, and the others to taste.
Enel didn't enjoy drinking, but Rayleigh couldn't stop praising the wine.
"You're welcome! Victor, treating me to some Red Star Erguotou is thanks enough. This wine reminds me of our era—Roger, Whitebeard, Golden Lion, Garp, the Warlords… now we're mostly gone, some growing old."
Pluto Rayleigh took a long sip. Perhaps because of the spiciness, or maybe the memories it evoked, a faint mist flashed in the legendary pirate's eyes.
"Uncle Rayleigh, the pirate tradition will never die, and the passage of time will never stop it. Since you're already a legend, just watch the storm unfold!"
Victor's eyes burned as he spoke to Rayleigh. Hancock sat next to him, shyly leaning on his shoulder.
Victor loved this pirate world.
"Hahaha! You little brat, you're really different from Luffy and the others!"
Rayleigh was momentarily stunned. He hadn't expected Victor to speak so boldly. What kind of young man is this? Not only is he powerful, but his thoughts are also uniquely sharp.
Victor, Rayleigh, and Hawkeye continued drinking and chatting.
Pirate Queen Hancock snuggled closer to Victor, enjoying the sweetness of love while also making sure he drank less. She still remembered the last time he got drunk on the Titanic X—it had been overwhelming.
Not everyone shared the relaxed mood, however.
Enel, the man who had shocked the world today, fell into deep frustration after a brief and boring drinking session.
"Hey!!! What are you staring at? Is something on my face?!"
Enel grinned, complaining at this silly Straw Hat boy who had apparently seen him by accident. Luffy squatted in front of him with two large pieces of meat, refusing to move, just staring while eating.
What? Was he a snack?
This was the man destined to become the God of Thunder!
"Uh!? I remember now! You're that god from Sky Island, right? Elune! Why are you here?! Didn't I knock you away?!"
Luffy swallowed the meat and bones in one gulp, then jumped up excitedly. He didn't expect to meet an old acquaintance. He remembered that back on Sky Island, even Zoro couldn't contend with Elune.
Enel was confused. Could this Straw Hat boy be an idiot?
For a moment, Enel clenched his fists, intending to strike Luffy with lightning—but he knew it would be pointless. Luffy was immune to thunder.
"Oh? Hahaha! I see! Luffy is the user of the Gum-Gum Fruit, and just happens to be the nemesis of your friend!"
Rayleigh laughed. He was worried that Luffy, like his apprentice, might suffer when he eventually met Victor. But now, it seemed the opposite was true. Though he didn't say it outright, he noted that Victor also uses thunder—could that be restrained by Luffy?
Victor felt slightly annoyed. This old man was openly implying something in his own territory!
Even if Victor didn't mind, Enel was his crew member now. He couldn't let his own people suffer. He decided to save face for Enel.
"Luffy, how's your training these past three months? Don't forget our two-year agreement. When we reach the New World, we might become rivals. You have to work hard, or the Pirate King's position will be mine!"
Victor smiled with a mischievous glint. He knew Luffy would get angry hearing about the Pirate King and teach him a lesson.
"I'm the man who's going to be the Pirate King! Even if it's you, Victor, I'll beat you!"
As Victor expected, Luffy fell into the trap, determined to claim the Pirate King title.
"Oh!? How about we spar now? Don't worry, I won't use my Devil Fruit powers—just physical skills!"
Victor smiled harmlessly, pretending to have no ill intentions.
"Great! I also want to test my training results!"
Luffy readily agreed.
Seeing Luffy's decisiveness, Rayleigh almost choked on a mouthful of Red Star Erguotou.
Victor was such a cunning little fox—he would tolerate no humiliation!
Ping!
Pong! Pong! Pong!
The sparring began naturally. With Victor's king-level physique, his overall skills had improved immensely. Luffy, who had only recently mastered Haki, couldn't contend evenly.
Normally, a sparring match would have Victor hitting Luffy so hard he'd run away screaming. But Luffy's fighting spirit and pain tolerance were exceptional. In the end, the match only ended when Victor grew tired.
The sparring left Luffy battered, covered in lumps. He retreated early to continue training, leaving Rayleigh behind to watch the spectacle.
Victor had won the first round of observation.
