Chapter 164 - Chapter 163: Baby Is Sad

Song Jie flew swiftly in the direction Mu Nujiao had pointed, riding the Wind Riding Sky Eagle created by his Dimensional Replication.

Along the way, he encountered Zhao Mingyue, a student from the Imperial Capital Academy. He casually rescued her from danger.

"Have you seen Mu Ningxue?" Song Jie asked.

"She and Qingqing went that way!" Zhao Mingyue replied, pointing ahead.

Song Jie nodded. "Find a place to hide," he told her before speeding off in the direction she indicated.

He knew that after using the Ice Crystal Bow, Mu Ningxue's body would enter a weakened state. He had to reach her quickly.

In a half-collapsed residential building some distance away, Qingqing was helping Mu Ningxue into a room.

"Are you alright?" Qingqing asked. When she touched Mu Ningxue earlier, she had felt waves of biting cold emanating from her.

"I'm fine…" Mu Ningxue shook her head, steadying her breath. "You can't go far with me. Just leave me here."

Qingqing looked at Mu Ningxue's pale face, hesitating.

Earlier, Mu Ningxue's Ice Crystal Bow had given them a brief chance to escape. At the same time, Mu Nujiao and Zhao Mingyue had stayed behind to buy them time.

But the Military Mages had caught up quickly, and with Mu Ningxue in this condition, they stood no chance in a fight.

Suddenly, footsteps echoed outside the building. Both of them fell silent instantly.

Qingqing knew the Military Mages would soon find them. She rushed to the window. "Don't make a sound," she whispered.

Without another word, she jumped out the window to lure them away.

Hearing the noise, the two Military Mages immediately chased after her.

Mu Ningxue watched them go, but she couldn't muster any strength to move.

Elsewhere in Jinlin City, Mo Fan and Lu Zhenghe were sprinting through the ruined streets.

Soon, both collapsed to the ground, panting heavily.

"Why are you following me?" Mo Fan demanded.

"Who said I'm following you? I'm just escaping in the same direction," Lu Zhenghe replied bluntly.

Mo Fan didn't argue. He glanced behind them—no sign of the Lizard Skull Giant Demon. He finally exhaled in relief.

"Damn it, what rotten luck," Mo Fan cursed. "We actually stirred up the Lizard Skull Giant Demon's nest!"

They had thought there were only a few of them, but the area was crawling with the creatures.

Their group had tried to explore the nest but had ended up surrounded. Everyone scattered, and now no one knew where the others were.

Lu Zhenghe stared back at the road, then picked up a stone and carved a symbol into the ground.

"Come on," Mo Fan said, standing up. "We'll regroup with the others first."

"Alright," Lu Zhenghe nodded.

High above Jinlin City, Song Jie rode the Wind Riding Sky Eagle, scanning the ruins below.

A sudden scream reached his ears.

Without hesitation, he commanded the eagle to dive.

Below, he spotted a girl covered in blood, lying weakly on the ground. His eyes flashed with killing intent when he saw the two Military Mages nearby.

The two enemies froze, startled by the sight of the descending Wind Riding Sky Eagle.

In the next instant, a blinding light burst forth.

They didn't even have time to react before their bodies were obliterated into mist.

The injured girl was Qingqing. Seeing her attackers fall, the last bit of strength drained from her body, and she collapsed.

Song Jie quickly landed and knelt beside her. "Student, have you seen Mu Ningxue?"

Qingqing weakly raised a trembling hand and pointed toward a nearby building. "She's… over there…"

Without a word, Song Jie picked her up and placed her on the Wind Riding Sky Eagle's back.

"Take her for healing," he ordered.

The eagle immediately soared away toward Bai Tingting's location.

Song Jie turned toward the building and dashed inside.

"Mu Ningxue!" he called out as he entered the first floor.

Inside, Mu Ningxue heard a familiar voice, though in her weakened state, her mind felt hazy. She couldn't recall who it was.

She grabbed a loose brick and hurled it toward the door.

Clang!

Song Jie heard the sound, leapt through the window, and found Mu Ningxue sitting against the wall.

Seeing him, Mu Ningxue's eyes widened with surprise—and relief.

"How are you feeling?" Song Jie asked, noticing her pale face.

"I'm fine… just a little weak," she said softly.

Song Jie nodded and squatted down, lifting her carefully into his arms. "I'll take you to the others."

Mu Ningxue nodded faintly.

Outside, the Wind Riding Sky Eagle had already returned—the same one that had taken Mu Nujiao earlier. Song Jie climbed aboard with Mu Ningxue and took off toward Bai Tingting's location.

Her delicate body rested lightly in his arms—so soft and fragile that even Song Jie's heart skipped a beat.

Mu Ningxue didn't dare lift her head; their posture was far too close.

"Song Jie, I… I can sit up," she murmured, embarrassed.

Their position looked like that of a boyfriend carrying his girlfriend.

"Alright," Song Jie said, setting her down gently.

"It's windy ahead. Sit behind me and hold on tight. Otherwise, you might fall."

Mu Ningxue hesitated, unsure where to place her hands.

Just then, the Wind Riding Sky Eagle suddenly slowed down.

Caught off guard, Mu Ningxue leaned forward, pressing softly against Song Jie's back.

A warm, delicate sensation spread between them. Instinctively, Mu Ningxue wrapped her arms around his waist.

"Are you alright?" Song Jie asked, glancing back at her.

"I'm… fine…" she answered, her cheeks turning crimson.

It was her first time being this close to anyone.

Song Jie turned away and muttered at the eagle, "What's wrong with you? You've been flying for two and a half years, and you still can't keep steady?!"

The Wind Riding Sky Eagle, silently enduring the scolding, could only flap its wings helplessly.

Before long, Song Jie brought Mu Ningxue safely back to Mu Nujiao, Bai Tingting, and the others.

"Song Jie, where are you going?" Mu Nujiao asked when she saw him preparing to leave.

"Mo Fan's my brother. I can't just abandon him," Song Jie replied.

"Be careful! Don't act recklessly," Mu Ningxue said, worry flashing in her eyes.

"Don't worry. Reinforcements will be here soon," Song Jie reassured her before taking off again on the Wind Riding Sky Eagle.
