Chapter 163 - Chapter 162: Wasn’t He the One Who Bullied You Just Now?

"Stop running. None of you are getting away today."

The Military Mage chasing Mu Nujiao shouted coldly.

Mu Nujiao glanced back, her breathing uneven. She had already fought him once, but she was clearly outmatched.

These Military Mages were Lu Nian's trusted subordinates—veterans hardened by countless battles.

Although Mu Nujiao and the others were top students from elite academies, they were still too inexperienced.

Worse still, all these Military Mages were full Intermediate-level cultivators. Their combat ability and real-world experience far surpassed the students'.

Mu Nujiao was completely suppressed, unable to shake her pursuer.

"You're Military Mages! Why are you doing this?" she demanded.

"A few days ago, maybe I was," the man replied. "But now, I'm no longer one."

There was a flicker of loss in his eyes, but no regret. He and his comrades had abandoned their posts—for something greater.

"Because we're about to witness the birth of a new element! Unfortunately, you won't live to see it."

As soon as he finished speaking, a red five-pointed Star Chart appeared beneath his feet.

"Fiery Fist: Earth Fiend!!"

The ground split apart, and blazing flames surged upward from the fissures, engulfing everything nearby.

Mu Nujiao felt the scorching heat closing in. She quickly pulled out a small, thumb-sized sphere and crushed it in her hand.

A shimmering blue barrier instantly enveloped her.

"Defensive magic tool?" the Military Mage sneered. "The children of noble families really do have it easy. But let's see how long that can protect you!"

Mu Nujiao knew this was only a temporary reprieve. She had to think fast.

But before she could act, she saw a shadow rapidly approaching from above!

The Military Mage sensed the disturbance and turned.

A massive silhouette swept down from the sky, landing beside Mu Nujiao with tremendous force.

"Song Jie!" Mu Nujiao cried out in relief, running toward him.

Song Jie jumped down from his Wind Riding Sky Eagle and caught her in his arms.

"It's okay now. Leave this to me," he said gently, patting her back.

"Mm…" Mu Nujiao nodded, holding onto him tightly.

Just then, another Military Mage arrived.

"What's taking you so long to deal with a few students?" he demanded.

"There was a small accident," the first one replied.

"And you? Why are you here?"

"We ran into trouble too," the newcomer said. "When we arrived at our location, there were signs of a fight, but no targets. Their detector was left behind.

The Commander thinks they were scattered by demons during detection, so he sent me to tell you to finish quickly and regroup."

"Forget that for now. Help me deal with these two first."

The newcomer frowned, glancing at Song Jie and Mu Nujiao. He immediately noticed the Warrior-level Wind Riding Sky Eagle standing behind them.

"You're a seasoned soldier, and you can't even handle two students?" he mocked.

"Didn't you see that Warrior-level beast behind them? You deal with it. I'll handle the two of them," the first one shot back, confident.

Just two young students—how hard could it be?

Song Jie ignored their banter, instead brushing the dirt off Mu Nujiao's cheek.

"Your face is dirty," he said with a soft smile, "but you're still beautiful."

"Song Jie…" Mu Nujiao's heart raced. How could he say that at a time like this—with two enemies right in front of them?!

"Kid, are you really flirting right now?" the Military Mage sneered. "You have no idea what situation you're in."

But Song Jie paid him no attention. He glanced at Mu Nujiao again. "He's the one who bullied you just now, right?"

Mu Nujiao nodded. As long as Song Jie was here, she felt completely safe.

"Students from top academies are just arrogant!" the other Military Mage scoffed.

Before he could finish, a golden longsword shot through the air and impaled his leg in a flash.

"Ah!!" he screamed, collapsing to the ground.

"It wasn't your turn to speak. So shut up," Song Jie said coldly. His attacks were merciless—these people didn't deserve restraint.

The remaining Military Mage's face twisted in shock. He hadn't even seen how Song Jie attacked!

Song Jie turned toward him. "Now, it's your turn."

"Radiance! Sword of Penetration!"

Golden light flashed as a radiant blade materialized and shot forward like a spear.

"Light Blessing! Guardian!!"

The Military Mage hastily cast a third-tier Intermediate-level defensive spell, sensing the danger.

But it was useless.

The golden sword sliced through his barrier as though it were paper—then tore through his arm!

Blood sprayed, and the man's scream came a beat too late.

"Ahhhh!!"

Song Jie quickly reached out and covered Mu Nujiao's eyes. "Jiao Jiao, don't look. It's too bloody for you."

"It's fine," she said softly. "I know they're not good people."

Song Jie nodded. "Alright then."

He looked down at the two defeated soldiers. "Where's your commander?"

The two were drenched in sweat, trembling from pain and shock.

"Do you think we'll tell you?" one of them spat.

Song Jie sighed. "Stubborn, huh?"

Without hesitation, he crippled their legs with another wave of light magic.

"Jinlin City isn't that big. I can find your commander myself," he said coldly.

Moments later, a swarm of demons—Lizard Skull Giant Demons—rushed toward them, drawn by the noise.

Song Jie looked at the two broken soldiers and smirked. "No need to dirty my hands. Let them die another way."

He and Mu Nujiao mounted the Wind Riding Sky Eagle and took off.

Below them, the demons swarmed the two Military Mages, their screams quickly drowned out by roars.

Mu Nujiao sat in front, the wind whipping through her hair. Suddenly, Song Jie leaned forward and kissed her on the cheek.

"Song Jie…" she whispered, her face turning crimson.

He smiled. "Bai Tingting and Mu Ningxue are still being chased, right?"

Mu Nujiao nodded quickly. "Yes. If it weren't for Mu Ningxue's arrows, we might all be dead. Please—help them!"

"I already found Bai Tingting," Song Jie said. "You're tired. Go meet up with her first—I'll handle the others."

"Thank you," Mu Nujiao said softly. She turned, her lips brushing his in a fleeting kiss.

Song Jie smiled faintly, then commanded the Wind Riding Sky Eagle to take Mu Nujiao toward Bai Tingting's location.

After ensuring her safety, he soared off toward the battlefield—where Mu Ningxue and the others were still in danger.
