Chapter 165 - Chapter 164: It’s Never Too Late for a Gentleman to Take Revenge!

Jinlin City.

Atop a tall building, Mo Fan stood face to face with Lu Nian and Lu Zhenghe.

"Damn it, you're a traitor!" Mo Fan roared at Lu Zhenghe, his face filled with fury.

Lu Zhenghe stood silently beside Lu Nian, refusing to meet his eyes.

"Mo Fan," Lu Nian said coldly, "cooperate with us, and you won't have to suffer any unnecessary pain."

Mo Fan glared at him. "What do you want from me?!"

He had no idea why these Military Mages were targeting him.

Lu Nian smiled faintly. "We're conducting an experiment… and you happen to be the perfect test subject."

"Experiment?!"

Mo Fan's fists clenched tightly, his teeth grinding.

"You're experimenting on humans? Aren't you afraid of government retribution?"

Lu Nian's eyes hardened. "Enough nonsense. You have two choices."

He raised a hand, and a vial of sinister red liquid appeared within it. "First, obey us and consume this blood relic."

His tone grew darker. "Second, if you refuse, we'll start by experimenting on your family."

"You…" Mo Fan's voice trembled with rage. His chest heaved violently.

These people were threatening his family!

He wanted to fight back—but the realization hit him hard. If they dared say it, they were capable of doing it.

A wave of helplessness crashed over him.

If only he were stronger. If only he had the power to crush people like this!

Lu Nian's voice interrupted his thoughts. "Have you made up your mind?"

Mo Fan's arm shook, but he gritted his teeth and growled, "Give it to me!"

Lu Nian smiled in satisfaction and handed the blood relic to him.

Mo Fan stared at the dark, pulsating liquid—it radiated an ominous energy that made his skin crawl.

Even so, he had no choice.

He looked up at Lu Nian. "Even if I die, even if I become a ghost, I'll never forgive you!"

Lu Nian ignored his words. All that mattered was whether the experiment succeeded.

Mo Fan crushed the blood relic. The blood-red energy immediately surged into his body, and agony twisted his face.

Lu Nian's eyes gleamed with excitement. Jiang Yi and the others also watched with anticipation—would this be their first successful human transformation?

Not far away, Song Jie arrived just as Mo Fan absorbed the relic.

He saw Mo Fan clutching his chest in pain, his body convulsing as something foreign tore through him.

"Mo Fan, if you die, I'll use your family next!" Lu Nian laughed maniacally.

Mo Fan was barely holding on, gasping for breath. But at Lu Nian's words, he raised his head, his eyes blazing with murderous fury.

Lu Nian laughed even harder. "That's right! That's the look! Stay alive, or your family will take your place!"

Mo Fan's eyes turned bloodshot. He threw his head back and roared to the sky in agony and rage.

"Commander," Jiang Yi said hesitantly, "the squad from earlier still hasn't returned. Could something have happened?"

"If they're dead, they're dead." Lu Nian waved dismissively. "Irrelevant. What matters is the experiment's success."

Just then, a calm voice broke the tension.

"It's really lively here."

"Who's there?!" Jiang Yi spun around. Her eyes fell on Song Jie.

He looked calm, almost amused. "Who am I? I think you already know—Song Jie from Pearl Institute. That ring any bells?"

At his name, Lu Nian's expression shifted.

"It's you!"

Of course he remembered. A year ago, Song Jie had been one of their prime targets—one that had mysteriously escaped.

"Capture him!" Lu Nian barked. "Don't let him interfere with the experiment!"

Song Jie smiled faintly. "Perfect. I was hoping you'd say that."

He led the pursuing Military Mages away from Mo Fan, leaping down to the ground below.

One of them—a Summoning Element Mage—rode a Flying Eagle after him.

But the moment he got close, Song Jie raised his hand.

A blinding burst of Radiance shot out, annihilating both mage and beast in a single strike!

The others froze in horror.

What… what kind of power was that?!

An Intermediate Mage and a Warrior-Level Summoned Beast, wiped out in one attack?!

Jiang Yi's expression darkened as she studied him. "So this is your Mutated Talent?"

She hadn't expected it to be so terrifying. No wonder they failed to capture him before.

Song Jie ignored her. "You're lucky," he said coldly. "If I didn't need you alive, you'd already be dead."

A golden six-pointed Star Chart spread beneath his feet.

"Light Blessing!"

"Imprisoning Guardian!"

A golden radiance engulfed the area, trapping the Military Mages before they could react.

They blinked in confusion—why was he casting Light Magic on them?

"Little Green!"

From Song Jie's Dimensional Space, Little Green emerged, its vines whipping out and ensnaring the trapped soldiers.

"Break free! Quickly!" Jiang Yi shouted, realizing too late what was happening.

But how could a few Intermediate Mages hope to shatter a Light Blessing cast at an Advanced-level strength?

The vines surged up from the ground, wrapping tightly around them until none could move.

Song Jie's eyes narrowed. He needed them alive—to confess to Lu Nian's crimes and to prove that these Military Mages had experimented on him before.

Once he had their testimony, his revenge would be complete.

One by one, the captives fell unconscious under Little Green's poison.

"Good," Song Jie said quietly. "Now it's time for revenge."

He looked up toward the rooftop where Lu Nian was.

A gentleman's revenge…

Is never too late.

He recalled Little Green, mounted the Wind Riding Sky Eagle, and soared back toward Lu Nian.

When Lu Nian saw Song Jie return unscathed, his frown deepened. His soldiers were all trained elites—how could they lose to a single student?

"It seems you have quite a few tricks," Lu Nian muttered.

Song Jie smirked. "I consumed the blood relic once too."

Lu Nian's eyes widened in shock. "What?! You consumed it—and lived?"

"Yes," Song Jie said evenly. "And I'm still alive."

Lu Nian leaned forward eagerly. "Then tell me—did you awaken a new element?!"
