Meanwhile, as a single Frost Demon clad in azure and white shifted his head toward the sky with an intent to leave Planet Zero thanks to the decision of the Selection System...
Somewhere beyond the four quadrants which belonged to part of the Universe. In this instance, the Universe Boreas entered is called Universe 7. The primary area within Universe 7 is called the Realm of the Living, where the North Quadrant, the South Quadrant, the West Quadrant, and East Quadrant reside, composed of individual galaxies. Boreas hasn't figured where he was yet, but Planet Zero resided in the heart of the North Quadrant. Not shown in the story, there existed many, many aliens. So many that it reached the point of Frieza calling Planet Earth a backwater planet.
It wasn't just the four quadrants that comprised Universe 7. There existed different realms, both within, and outside of Universe 7.
There is the Demon Realm, a shadowy place wrought with Demons. Thanks to the introduction of Dragon Ball Daima, it finally revealed where the Demon Realm resided. It was outside the Multiverse entirely, only to be created by a Supreme Majin who went by the name Rymus. Not only did Rymus create the Demon Realm, he created the entirety of the Multiverse, which included all of the other Universes, and not just Universe 7. Down the line, he likely assigned the Omni-King, King Zeno, to watch over the Universes in his place, but that remains to be seen. On top of that, the Demon Realm predated the Multiverse. It existed long before its creation!
Down the line, the leader of the Demon Realm or Rymus himself would appoint Supreme Kai to watch over these Universes and from there, they would eventually observe both the Realm of the Living, and a different realm called the Other World, where souls pass through to enter Heaven or Hell, or potentially reincarnate. Even the Supreme Kai would appoint more members of their race, the Glind race, to watch over the Realm of the Living closer than they would. The cardinal Kai!
Thanks to the new positioning of the Demon Realm, the Other World now had a much more direct line of sight with the Realm of the Living, and unlike the Demon Realm, it resided within Universe 7. By the time a soul passes through the Other World, their body would long since have decomposed, only to have a soul cloud remain. One would see many souls lined up to get judged by King Yemma while Goku traverses the Other World after perishing from his older brother, Raditz with hopes of growing stronger.
But right now, that time has not yet come.
Near King Yemma's Palace, a long and windy road could be seen stretching onward for miles and miles on end. This was the Snake Way.
At the very end of the Snake Way, one solitary planet could be seen amongst endless drifting golden clouds. This single planet was very special. It was home to one of the cardinal Kai. North Kai!
The cardinal Kai were the lowest of the ranks as far as the Glind race went. Low level godly beings in charge of supervising a particular quadrant. The other Kai were scattered across the Other World, supervising their Quadrants respectively.
Throughout the story, this planet would be commonly addressed as King Kai's Planet. And boy, was it small. One could go from one edge of the planet to the other in just minutes. All because of King Zeno playing a game of hide-and-seek did King Kai's planet become collateral damage, shrinking to what is now seen in the story. He couldn't do anything against it. Their power difference was as vast as Heaven and Earth. King Kai could only be thankful his planet wasn't destroyed outright during the time that took place.
Presently, King Kai could be seen outside of his simple dome house at a table nearby. All of a sudden, the atmosphere stirred, and a warp took place, revealing three figures of varying sizes. One of them had a smug look in their eyes the moment their eyes landed on King Kai not too far away.
"Is it that time of the year again for me to beat your ass at chess again eh King Kai?", The haughty voice said, calling out to King Kai. King Kai wasn't disturbed by this voice, as he has long since been used to it.
"And here I thought we were going to play connect four. Did you change your mind last minute like you always do, West Kai? I beat your ass the last time we played chess.", King Kai retorted, observing the short-statured purple-skinned figure arrive. Two other figures followed in tow. A look of anger appeared in the person's eyes, who King Kai called West Kai.
"Grrr, you just got lucky last time and managed to push past the blockade I set up last time! I've a new strategy this time around. You can bet your ass I'm going to win!", West Kai retorted back, snorting as he said that.
"Can ya'll not fight the moment we arrive, pretty please?", The tall figure beside West Kai said. Amongst them, this figure held an accent. "We're in a celebratory mood after all. The dawn of the next century is among us.", The tall figure continued to say, who had pink skin. They were the tallest of the bunch. This one was South Kai.
"I'll agree with you for once, South Kai. We've all a reason to celebrate today, so let's just have some fun. You brought the games out right, King Kai?", The fourth and last figure said. She was a female Kai unlike the other three, and watched over the last cardinal direction. East Kai.
Every so often, the four cardinal Kai would host a get-together, a reunion of sorts every so often to celebrate life and the passage of time. To them, it was simply another event to have some fun. Their last one was around forty years ago, around the time the half-way point between centuries. It was the dawn of the next one.
Unbeknownst to Boreas, it was presently Year 700 of DBZ's calendar! That meant Boreas was born in 695!
In Year 700, most of DBZ's relevant characters in the story were just about to be born. The canon wouldn't kick off until Year 732 where the Saiyans take over Planet Tuffle after a grueling war, renaming it Planet Vegeta after the Saiyan's current King. And it would only be a couple more years after that before Frieza pays a visit, and destroys Planet Vegeta, forcing Goku to be sent offworld, and officially begin his own story on Planet Earth.
But in Year 732, that is the auspicious year that both Prince Vegeta, Goku's rival, and the Legendary Super Saiyan, Broly, would be born. Or at least according to how Dragon Ball Super Broly lore went. Unlike the non-canonical movies, Broly is four years older than Goku. Until Goku leaves Planet Vegeta, Boreas likely won't be able to meet him, unless he personally pays a visit to the Low Class Warriors and enters Bardock's home.
That did mean that Boreas still has a couple decades worth of time to experience what it is like to live as a Frost Demon. Unlike others, Boreas knew the story. He knew how powerful characters later on would become. Getting a chance to unlock Godly Ki now is all but necessary if he hopes to survive later when the God of Destruction awakens again.
It is also said the God of Destruction actually pays a visit to the now-Frieza Force once King Cold introduces his son Frieza to the Saiyans, prompting King Cold's retirement. By then, Frieza would already be in his suppressed First Form, but even with a whopping 530,000 Battle Power, he can only be forced to bend his knee at the God of Destruction. The God of Destruction even assigns a mission to Frieza, to wipe out Planet Vegeta on the God of Destruction's behalf, all because he is simply too lazy to do it himself.
But now...
Boreas has entered the fray. He also has a chance to acquire the same type of energy the gods use.
The scene changed back to Boreas as anticipation filled his eyes. He found little to no resistance while flying through Planet Zero's atmosphere. He didn't have to worry about losing oxygen like humans had to suffer through. That was a specialty of not only the Frost Clan, but the Frost Demon altogether.
Boreas simply didn't have a need to breathe. He could survive in the vacuum of Outer Space!
The sight of the stars soon came into view, exiting Planet Zero's atmosphere. Even in his past life, humans were only beginning to explore the stars. Now, he had the means to do it through his own actions!
Boreas couldn't help but marvel at outer space. He could feel these endless roaming stars and planets were now within grasp, ripe for exploring. It wouldn't be hard to say that this was one of the most beautiful sights he had ever seen, both in this second life and his previous life.
While Boreas enjoyed the infinite starry galaxy before him, some movement could be seen back on King Kai's planet. Some time had passed after all of the Kai got together.
Two sets of tables could now be seen. King Kai refused to play hide-and-seek ever again. He didn't want something like last time to happen, so he often enjoyed playing different kinds of board games. King Kai presently sat across from West Kai who were both enjoying a game of chess. Enough time passed which allowed several pieces to be moved across the board.
A look of disbelief appeared on West Kai's face while he observed the current positioning.
"Y-You actually managed to put me in the exact same spot like last time...How is this possible?", West Kai complained, not believing what he was currently seeing.
"Heh. Perhaps you should actually use your head for once, West Kai. It isn't hard once you've learned to grasp the bigger picture.", King Kai responded. A wide grin could be seen on his face, acting like he had won. Well, King Kai wasn't too far off from victory.
Before King Kai could declare checkmate against West Kai, however, a much smaller figure emerged from the dome house. It carried a tray with a few cups of tea placed on top of it. This figure wasn't human here, it was a small monkey. One of the couple of companions King Kai had come to enjoy. His name was Bubbles. Not only did Bubbles know how to perform simple tasks when necessary, Bubbles even assisted with training both Goku and the Z Fighters once they arrived here on King Kai's Planet.
Sadly, while carrying the tray over, Bubbles suddenly hooted a few times, becoming distracted. It caused the tea to spill over onto the grass beside him.
"Hoo. Hoo-hoo!", Bubbles exclaimed, almost excitedly. His gaze started to shift toward a specific direction. Seeing this, a grin appeared on West Kai's lips.
"Hahaha! Even after all these years, you still haven't taught that monkey of yours to serve tea properly, despite being quite an intelligent creature.", West Kai retorted, trying to shift his anger elsewhere. Even after saying that, Bubbles' head was still locked in place, acting like he was looking beyond the golden clouds.
At this time, the antennae on King Kai's head began to twitch, causing him to frown.
"Oh dear.", King Kai said, a hint of nervousness appeared in his eyes. He too shifted his eyes toward the direction Bubbles was looking at.
"What? It's not like our match is over yet. I can still win!", West Kai retorted, scoffing at King Kai. Despite having a clear advantage, West Kai boasted like he hadn't lost yet. King Kai had taken more pieces yes, but if one looked closely, West Kai was on track to trap the King.
"Will you pipe down for a moment, West Kai?", King Kai asked, his gaze turned serious. West Kai didn't expect to see such seriousness from him. All of a sudden, King Kai stood up, which placed the current game on hold.
"Is somethin' the matter, King Kai? It's rare for you to burst out like this.", South Kai asked. King Kai's voice was loud enough to have their game paused as well. Now standing, King Kai approached Bubbles, still keeping a frown on his face.
"You sense it too, don't you, Bubbles?", King Kai asked the monkey, ignoring South Kai's question.
"Hoo.", Bubbles answered. He extended his furry arm upward, pointing in the same direction he was looking at. A smile appeared on East Kai's lips seeing this happen before her.
"Well, it looks like something is happening, seeing as it has taken your interest, King Kai. I guess our celebration won't be boring this time after all.", East Kai said, showing interest.
"So you say.", West Kai said. His earlier annoyed look vanished and he too looked onward. "That's the direction of the North Quadrant. Something happening in your territory, King Kai?", West Kai asked, also gaining interest.
Hearing that, King Kai's antennae continued twitching. "You three are Kai too. You should be able to sense it once you focus your energy in this direction. Some form of energy is rapidly expanding. It isn't evil per se, but it is quite large. Capable enough of destroying a planet.", King Kai said, still frowning.
"A rapidly expanding energy capable of destroying a planet...?", West Kai said, also frowning now. "Planets have been coming and going for eons. It could be a supernova for all we know."
King Kai simply shook his head, denying that suggestion.
"That isn't the case. This energy is man made. Someone is doing this.", King Kai said, and placed his arms behind his back.
"You telling us that someone has enough energy to destroy a planet? There's not a whole lot of individuals who can do that in our Universe. But since we're on that topic, your quadrant is pretty crazy is it not, King Kai? Some crazy people try to conquer planets one after another, thinking they can claim them for themselves.", East Kai said, only to turn her head toward South Kai.
"It's a darn shame but yes. The same could be happenin' in the South Quadrant of mine you see. It hasn't reached the point of going against the laws of our Universe. I just hate seein' crazy bastards attempt to plunder the South Galaxy to do their own biddin'. It's like they're tryin' to make an empire.", South Kai responded, letting out a drawn-out sigh. Unfortunately, he couldn't do much for the South Quadrant that he was responsible for.
Normally, a Kai couldn't intervene in the Realm of the Living. All one could do is simply observe. Only would things reach dire straits could a Kai take action. Like when Majin Buu threatened the destruction of all of Universe 7. For now, King Kai could only observe.
"Just who are you?", King Kai mused, attempting to pinpoint where the energy signature was coming from...
