10 PM.
I got out of the taxi, ready to head back to The Grandview Apartments. I wasn't sure if Sarah Moore had returned; I hadn't been able to reach her, and I couldn't help but feel a little worried.
Just as I was about to walk through the main entrance of the neighborhood, a glaring light shot over accompanied by a few sharp honks, clearly indicating someone wanted me to go over.
I frowned slightly, vaguely noticing a woman in the driver's seat. I ignored her and continued towards The Grandview Apartments.
Though I couldn't discern the figure in the car, I was sure it couldn't be Sarah Moore.
Inside the car was actually Jessica Brown. There was a last-minute group meeting tonight, requiring all executives to attend, but she discovered that even after the meeting had ended, Sarah Moore hadn't shown up or answered her phone.
She sensed something was off; ever since Sarah Moore joined the company, she had never been late or left early even once.
She suspected something had happened to Sarah Moore.
So she found this place using the information Sarah had filled out in her personnel file, originally planning to get out and go upstairs but unexpectedly saw David Johnson.
Since David provided that medicine formula, she had hired a private detective to investigate him.
She never would have guessed that his information was almost entirely blank. She didn't even know where this man came from or what he intended to do in Brooksdale.
In Eldoria, survival is impossible, even for beggars, without completely blank information.
Regarding the blankness, there's only one possibility: his information is protected by higher authority.
From then on, Jessica Brown grew curious about this man called David Johnson. Of course, it wasn't just curiosity; there was also resentment because David was the first man to dare reject her in so many years!
Seeing David completely ignoring her, Jessica clenched her fist in anger. Just as he was about to disappear from sight, she had no choice but to get out of the car and chase after him.
"David Johnson, stop right there!" a crisp voice called out.
I instinctively turned around and quickly saw the woman in front of me.
Even though I had seen many beautiful women, I was slightly taken aback by her beauty.
The woman had snow-white skin, slightly wavy long hair cascading down, giving a somewhat languid look. Her eyes were clear and bright, with alluring almond-shaped aesthetics and a hint of coldness amidst her beauty.
At this moment, she bit her vibrant red lips, her snow-like face revealing a trace of pallor and arrogance.
I subconsciously compared the woman in front of me to Sarah Moore. In terms of appearance, this woman was clearly superior, but when it came to figure, Sarah's allure almost always held the top spot.
However, this woman's figure was also impressive, with curves in all the right places. If she dressed more seductively, it might add some extra points.
As I scrutinized Jessica Brown, she spoke up, "David, didn't you see me asking you to stop just now?"
I withdrew my analytical gaze and replied coldly, "Who are you? Why should I stop?"
Jessica took a step forward, speaking with considerable pride, "I heard you made a scene under the Radiance Group building just to see me. So, now that the person you've been wanting to see is here, is this your attitude?"
Only then did I realize that the woman before me was Jessica Brown, one of Northridge Province's top beauties, chairperson of Radiance Group, and also Sarah Moore' superior.
I glanced at Jessica's face, took a deep breath. The absence of the impending catastrophe my mentor spoke of meant she wouldn't be in trouble during this period.
"Why the sigh? Does my appearance disappoint you?" Jessica felt a surge of anger seeing him shake his head and sigh repeatedly.
As the daughter of the Brown family, who dared treat her this way? She even felt a strange sense of innocence rising within her.
"It's nothing. If there's no business, I'll take my leave," I said.
Jessica, adjusting her emotions, set aside her concerns and asked, "Are you living with Sarah Moore?"
"Yes," I nodded.
For some reason, knowing they lived together left Jessica feeling somewhat unsettled.
"Martinez't misunderstand. I had nowhere to live when I came to Brooksdale, so Sarah took me in."
Jessica felt relieved and continued her questioning, "There was a last-minute meeting at the company today, but Sarah didn't come. Do you know where she is?"
"No," I answered.
After speaking, I turned and left. I didn't like being chased with questions and didn't find it necessary to respond.
Jessica noticed David's impatience and felt somewhat defeated, hurriedly calling out, "David, stop right there!"
I did not halt my steps.
Jessica tightened her fists even more and stamped her feet in anger!
A few days ago, you insisted on seeing me. Why, when I'm right in front of you now, are you so impatient!
Could it be that I, Jessica Brown, don't meet your Dharma Eye, David Johnson?
Unable to contain herself any longer, Jessica shouted, "David, why are you, a grown man, living with Sarah Moore? Martinez't you know it affects her reputation? And don't think that having a medicine formula means you can be assured of food and clothing for life. Let me tell you, David, if you continue this way, you'll only exhaust your resources and ruin yourself!"
My steps finally halted. I turned and walked up to Jessica.
Jessica stood speechless before the man.
"Jessica Brown, do you think you know me well? Or is it because you're the daughter of the province's Brown family that you have the right to criticize others?"
"No..." Jessica's voice was faint, tinged with fear.
My lips curled into a cold smile.
"Since you don't know me, what right do you have to criticize? I don't care whether you're the chairperson of Radiance Group or the heiress of a major family in Northridge Province. Even if you're from a top family in Silverwood, in front of me, David Johnson, keep your arrogance to yourself! Anything I do is none of your business."
Jessica took a step back, completely taken aback by David's aura, her eyes reddening as a sense of grievance washed over her.
"That's not what I meant... I just..."
I didn't give Jessica a chance to explain, casually leaving. In my view, no matter how noble her identity, ten years later, she might only look up to my silhouette!
After David left, Jessica couldn't hold back anymore; she started to cry.
Growing up as the privileged princess of the Brown family, who dared to speak to her this way?
Who dared scold him like this?
But after crying, Jessica cleared up, feeling as if David had suddenly awakened her.
A few years ago, she left the Brown family to establish Radiance Group in Brooksdale precisely to shed its shadow, hadn't she?
So many years have passed, and she thought she had succeeded, but ultimately, her greatest reliance remained Brown family, unchanged.
Looking in David's direction, her eyes glistened with tears as she softly murmured, "David, what kind of person are you truly?"
