Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 How to Survive in a Magical World (Part 2)

Based on their ages, less than half a year should have passed since the Lisanna incident, and both of them were still in a period of low spirits.

However, even though he had lost his magic, his past as an S-Class Mage and his experience as an elder of the guild were still there, so Ezreal decided to consult Mira to see if there was any simple way for him to safely and quickly get through the beginner phase in this new world.

At the very least, he needed to find a job that could cover his food and rent, so he wouldn't starve or sleep on the streets; that would be too miserable.

"Mira, are there any suitable jobs in the guild that I can take to earn some living expenses? Preferably something that pays daily, or includes food and lodging." Ezreal wasn't embarrassed; the need for food and sleep was immediate, so there was no need to suffer for the sake of pride. He pulled out his empty pockets to show Mira; they were so clean, there wasn't even dust.

"I don't have any money on me at all. The old man paid for my meal and drinks yesterday, and I don't want to keep bothering others," Ezreal said, looking earnestly at Mira.

"So that's what you're worried about? The Master already made arrangements yesterday. He was called to a gathering by the masters of other guilds last night, and before he left, he asked me to give this to you." Mira smiled reassuringly, then turned and took a brown envelope from a drawer under the front desk, handing it to Ezreal.

"All the rooms in the guild are currently occupied, so the Master rented Aunt Jerra's house on the street next door for you for three months. She usually lives in her flower shop, and the house has been empty. It's also not far from the guild."

"The keys and the rental agreement are in the envelope, along with five thousand J. The Master said to consider it a loan from him, and just to remember to pay him back when you earn money."

"This..." Taking the envelope, Ezreal felt a warmth in his heart again, and Makarov's image flashed through his mind.

Although he was short, and looked like an old mischievous child on the outside, he was surprisingly an elder who always brought a sense of security whenever one thought of him.

"As for work, the Master asked me to tell you that it's best to first familiarize yourself with the basic situation of Earth Land. Once you're accustomed, you can take on some lower-difficulty requests."

After Mira finished speaking, she blinked her big eyes and added, "Five thousand J should last you a while if you spend it carefully."

Looking at Mira's blinking big eyes, Ezreal held the envelope, his heart full of gratitude.

The prices in Magnolia were quite reasonable; a daily meal cost about 15 J, and there was a 30% discount at the guild. With the house Makarov helped him rent and the 5,000 J he lent him, his basic living expenses were secured.

"No problem, I'll follow the Master's arrangements, familiarize myself with everything here as soon as possible, and then take on some requests to pay back the money," Ezreal said seriously.

"Just get used to life in Fairy Tail first; the Master isn't in a hurry about the money." Mira took two glasses of orange juice, which looked like orange juice, from under the counter and gave one to Ezreal, saying happily, "A welcome gift, my treat."

"Thank you, I want to go see my place first, buy some daily necessities, and then go to the Magnolia City Library to borrow some books." Ezreal took the drink, finished it in one gulp, and then jumped down from the front desk.

"The City Library is in the city center. There's a very easy-to-find Kardia Cathedral there; once you see the cathedral, walk a few hundred meters to your left, and you'll see the library. Aunt Jerra's house is on the street opposite the guild, at..."

...Following Mira's directions, Ezreal quickly arrived at his first permanent residence in this world of Earth Land.

It was a beautiful two-story townhouse facing the street. He took out the key, pushed the door open, and entered. The first floor was about 90 square meters, fully furnished. Upstairs, there was about 80 square meters of space with a small balcony. The interior of the house was decorated with white glossy tiles and floor tiles, while the tables, chairs, benches, and sofa were soft off-white. The house looked very clean and tidy.

A house like this, with a monthly rent of 1200 J, was most likely a friendly price given out of respect for the Master.

Very satisfied with the residence, Ezreal took a quick look, then went out to buy some daily necessities before returning, and then left again to rush to the City Library to borrow books.

Magnolia was a very large city, and the library was located in the city center. Ezreal's residence was at least ten kilometers from the city center, so Ezreal chose to take a taxi.

This world indeed had a taxi industry, but the cars had a somewhat retro shape, similar to 19th-century vintage cars, but they didn't run on oil; their energy source was magic crystals, and the price was not very expensive.

The round-trip taxi fare cost 72 J, and the cost of borrowing books was also not expensive; borrowing one book for a month only cost 20 J.

Ezreal, finding it troublesome to go back and forth, directly borrowed dozens of books and returned to his residence with a stack of them.

He neatly spread the books out on the living room table. Each book shimmered with a faint white glow, having a cleaning spell attached to ensure that the books would not be artificially soiled during the borrowing period.

These borrowed books were all content that could help Ezreal quickly understand this world. Not daring to be negligent in the slightest, he took off the bronze goggles on his head and put them on his eyes, then opened a book and began to read intently.

The magic attached to the goggles was exceptionally useful, capable of increasing reading speed and enhancing concentration.

As he read, Ezreal was also surprised to discover something: his current body unexpectedly possessed an incredibly strong memory, almost photographic.

With this discovery, Ezreal studied even more enthusiastically. From afternoon to evening, except for going to the guild for dinner and greeting its members, he never left his room... At ten o'clock in the evening, the bright moon hung high outside the window, and stars twinkled.

Ezreal in his room was still diligently absorbing knowledge.

"Earth Manipulator: A type of Molding Magic. The creator of this magic is..., the cultivation method is as follows..."

"Celestial Magic: This magic encompasses enchantment, formations, healing... extremely difficult to cultivate..."

"The Seven Melodies of the Heart: Sound Magic, accidentally discovered 600 years ago by..., practitioners need to..."

"Gate of Eternal Freeze: Summoning Magic. The user can open the gate to the frozen world and summon..."

"Life Painting: A type of Realization Magic, created in the year 313 of the Fiore calendar by the famous painter..."

"Dong~" The last punctual chime of the evening from Kardia Cathedral rang out, and Ezreal ended his study.

Closing the magic book in his hand, Ezreal put his goggles back on his head and stretched.
