As Toya reached to the corner leading to the living room he was met with a menacing aura. How had I not felt this before? he thought. It felt so dark and terrifying but still so familiar like he had felt it before, but he couldn't really place it. Like a cold hand around your neck. Then it clicked. Back at the marketplace it was the same aura he felt from the captain of the soldiers. The same aura he had felt when he was staring into the flames. Back then he couldn't move but he didn't have that luxury this time. If he didn't move his father, mother and little sister would die. He took a deep breath, forcing his body to move.
But as he turned the corner, the aura became even worse. It was suffocating him. His heart pondering. His legs gave up under him making him fall to the ground. He landed in something, something sticky and warm. When he looked, he was about to barf. It was blood and not just a little it was like a sea of it. He tried to get up without looking at the blood, but his legs wouldn't listen. Looking up he froze. At the far end of the living room stood the captain - a sword in his hand - and below him where - his dad. He was covered in blood, blood and blood.
"Dad?" he whispered his voice shaking. As they hadn't noticed him the two people turned their heads in the direction of the sound. Kenzo's eyes widened with fear. The captain on the other hand his eyes was full of amusement. The chuckled darkly, his laughing filling the room.
"So you do all this to save your family, and here is your son walking into his own grave. But this is perfect, maybe I'll make you watch as I kill your own flesh and blood in front of you. What do you say commander." His eyes gleaming with amusement.
Kenzo turned his gaze to the captain and snapped "he is just a child; he doesn't have to die! You are here for me right then take mine and leave my family out of it." He coughed.
"Now now commander, I don't want you to die on me now - not before I make you suffer that is." Toya could see his father's eyes glowing with helplessness and anger.
The captain looked at Kenzo one last time before turning completely in Toya's direction. He began walking as the menacing aura became worse and worse. I don't get it! How can one person have an aura like this? As the gap between them closed Toya's movement became more and more limited. When the captain stood in front of him, he could barely even stay consciousness much less move. He could just sit there on the ground and watch. The captain reached his hand out for Toya a smile crossing his face as he saw the fear in the kid's eyes. But just as he was about to reach the sound of footsteps roamed the room. Toya couldn't even turn his head to see who was coming due to the pressure from his aura or rather bloodlust. As the footsteps came closer so did the voices. The captain looked up as someone turned the corner. He laughed, his smile widened.
"Seems like the whole family will meet their end together." He said his voice high and happy. Whole family? No, it can't be, it can't be them he thought. He tried to move his head to look at the new people, but his body still didn't listen. The captain noticing him, grinned.
"You want to see?" He still smiled as he reached down and grabbed him by the collar. He lifted him up a little and turned him to face them. And just as he feared - there stood his mother and little sister. It couldn't have been more than a few minutes since he last saw them but still, they looked even worse. His little sister was still being carried by his mother, but she was as pale as snow. His mother's condition was about the same as before but still not good. And behind him stood the rest of the soldiers. Their eyes cold as ice.
Toya trembled as he looked at them. His mother holding his pale little sister, soldiers around them like they were feared criminals. No this can't be happening. He clenched his fist, trying to move, trying to fight. But he couldn't move the pressure from the captain's bloodlust didn't allow it. The captain grip tightened holding him in place.
"Toya" his mother called desperate.
"I'm here! Mom!" he struggled even harder. Fighting to get out of the captain's grip. Fighting against the pressure.
"Let them go! They haven't done anything!" he screamed at the captain. The captain didn't even look down at him. He just sighed. "Oh, and what you going to do about it? Fight me? Don't make me laugh didn't I tell you already, weaklings don't get to talk back." His voice was as cold as ice.
Toya just gritted his teeth. He knew he was right. He had no weapon, no strength, no way to win - he was a weakling - but still he couldn't just stand by as his family got killed. He had to do something. He forced all the power he had left and swung his arm at the captain. But he didn't even flinch. His grip tightened on his collar, cutting of Toya's breathing, and with a flick of his wrist, he threw Toya to the ground. He threw him like he was nothing more than a bag of trash. Pain flowed through Toya's back as he hit the ground. But he ignored it, he tried to get up, his arms shaking, the taste of blood in his mouth. His vision had begun to blur not because of the pain, but because of the tears he refused to let fall.
The captain sighed, steeping past him "you just don't know when to quit, do you?"
Toya's heart sank as he saw where he were going. His mother tightened the grip on his little sister trying to step back but the soldiers around her didn't allow it. Move! Move! Move damn it! He screamed at his body to do something. He tried to push himself up but he couldn't. All of his strength had been drained. He had no power left. He could just lay there in horror.
"Don't!" he screamed.
But it was too late. The captain rose his blade and then. Blood. It splattered everywhere as the body of his mother and little sister collapsed to the floor. It was like the world itself slowed just to drag out the moment of pure helplessness. No. This can't be. This isn't happening. He stretched out his hand like it would somehow bring them back. His vision blurred as tears welled from his eyes.
The captain turned towards him. Half his head covered in the blood of his family. He slowly began walking. His eyes gleaming with light, a wide smile on his face. Something in him cracked. How can he look like that. He just killed someone and here he is smiling. But it seemed like it wasn't just something inside of Toya that cracked so did it in his father. Even with a deep sword wound on the back he got up from the ground. He looked like a beast there in the dim light covered in blood. He charged forward against the captain like he didn't care about his own safety. Like he knew that he couldn't win. How can he move? How can he keep going? Toya asked himself. His father was in a worse state than himself but even so right there in front of him he engaged in combat. But it was like the captain saw all his movements. He dodged ever single one without even breaking a sweat. In fact, it seemed like he was toying with him - like a cat toying with a mouse. At first the captain seemed to enjoy the pointless struggle, but he quickly got bored. He dodged a punch to the left, raised his sword and cut. Toya saw something come flying. It landed not far from him but when he saw what it was, he quickly turned away. There on the ground not far away laid the arm of his father. Kenzo gritting his teeth in pain as blood streaming from where his arm had been cut off. Kenzo had his back to him. He had been sent to his knees and above him stood the captain.
"Any last words commander?" He said it in a low voice and for the first time Toya could hear a bit of sadness in it. Maybe because he didn't really want to kill him which didn't make sense from what he said earlier, thought Toya, or maybe because the fun was about to end. Either way Toya saw no way out of it. Actually, he barely saw anything due to the tears in his eyes.
His father turned his head back and looked at Toya. "I'm sorry Toya. I'm sorry for always keeping the truth for you. I didn't want it to end this way. I'm sorry that I won't be here to see how you turn out in the future. But remember Toya, live." As he said the last words a tear feel from his eye. The captain placed his sword back in its scabage and raised his hand. A spark emerged in his palm, growing into a blazing inferno shallowing Kenzo hole. As the flames embraced his dad all he could see was a silhouette. When the flame died out all there was left of Kenzo were ash. Toya screamed with all of his air. Anger filling every ounce of his body. He could feel something within him break and then everything went black. But he still heard a voice deep inside of his mind. Plunder activated.
