(Tokyo, Japan)
The sun has risen, birds chirp, and the wind is a little cold—winter is near.
A boy is peacefully sleeping in his room and a girl is hiding under his bed.
She smiles mischievously while thinking:
"I managed to sneak into his room."
She comes out and stares at his face. Unaware of the situation, he remains asleep.
She throws a bucket of water on his face. The boy wakes up, sits on his bed, gasping, and looks around him.
"Was it... a dream?" he says as he sighs. He stands up mumbling:
"Ahh! What a nightmare."
He has a lean, athletic physique, velvet hair, and black eyes—meet Arakawa Reiji, who always loses his calm over his roommate.
Reiji comes out of his room with sleepy eyes. The girl throws a pillow on his face, and he falls down.
She yells at him:
"YOU FORGOT TO TURN OFF THE LIGHTS LAST NIGHT."
Meet Hayami Emiko—his roommate and classmate. The way she controls him, no one ever could. She has an hourglass figure, long black hair, and honey brown eyes.
He removes the pillow and says:
"Sorry. I forgot!"
She furrows her brow in frustration:
"Ughh! I reminded you too many times."
He gets frustrated too:
"When did you remind me? I didn't hear it at all."
She replies:
"When you were playing your video game, Dumbo!"
He says:
"I said... I DIDN'T HEAR IT."
Their neighbour knocks on their door and says:
"PLEASE, YOU BOTH, LET US HAVE A CALM MORNING AT LEAST ONE DAY!"
She sighs and says to Reiji:
"Anyway, I got out of my room at midnight and turned them off."
He gets more frustrated:
"Then why in the world did you yell at me?"
She walks towards the kitchen:
"Dunno."
He hits his forehead with his own hand:
"Ughhh!"
She says:
"Go take a shower until I prepare breakfast."
He mumbles:
"Because of all the arguing, my hunger levels have gone down now."
She sticks her ear out:
"Haaa?"
He says it out loud:
"NOTHING!"
After having breakfast, he sits on the couch and says:
"TODAY IS SUNDAY! Meaning I can play video games all day... Let's goooo!"
She clears her throat behind him:
"Hmmmhhhmhmhmhm!"
He shivers in fear and looks behind. She says with a smile:
"Reiji-kun... You forgot that you have to do the dishes and then accompany me to the grocery shop."
He asks:
"But..."
She cuts him off and says:
"No excuses. Without groceries, you won't be able to cook dinner and then you will starve to death."
He gulps asking:
"Why am I the only one starving to death, huh?"
She chuckles with a playful smile:
"Hehe, cuz I never spend my allowance on manga or video games, that's why I can order food from outside but you can't. Since you have wasted half of your allowance already."
He sighs as he stands up and says:
"Sure! Let me wash the dishes, and we're good to go."
She nods:
"Cool! I'll prepare the list for the groceries we need."
After tucking his sleeves up, he extends his arms, and smiles confidently as he says:
"Alright! Time to be a good wife."
He applies dish soap on a cup, tosses it into the air, then spins a full 360, and catches it while whistling.
She throws a pillow while yelling:
"Are you a ninja in training or something? Do it properly."
He says to her:
"Oh, c'mon, at least I am doing what you said."
He does the same with one plate, then washes it, and keeps it aside.
He mumbles:
"Wuuhh! I am getting... PERFECT in it!"
That's when he fails to catch the other plate. He gulps as it falls in slow motion.
"FAHHKK!' he thought, diving on the floor to catch it, but failing miserably."
He hears Emiko saying with a smile on her face:
"You are going to pay for it, Reiji-kun!"
His voice echoes in the silence:
"FORGIVEEEE... MEEEEEEEEE..."
(Evening)
Reiji and Emiko are in the grocery store. She puts a box of veggies in the cart, which he is holding.
He sighs as he follows her, thinking:
"Coming here every other day is such a mess. What if... any of our classmates catch us?"
She is busy looking at two bottles of different oils—one is regular, the other is olive oil. She can't decide, so she asks him:
"Hey! Which one do you think we should buy?"
He points at the olive oil in her right hand:
"I think this one."
She nods with a smile—but then puts the normal oil in the cart, which she was holding in her left hand.
After some time, she is looking at two packets of bread—one is normal, the other is brown bread. She can't decide so she asks him:
"Hey! Which one do you think is the best?"
He replies:
"The brown bread."
She again smiles at him—but then puts the other packet of bread in the cart.
This time she is holding two cartons of different eggs—one has conventional eggs, and the other has organic eggs.
She mumbles:
"Ummm..."
He replies:
"I would prefer organic eggs."
She puts the carton of conventional eggs in the cart. He gets frustrated when he says:
"What's the point of even asking when you don't even want to buy it?"
She replies:
"Your choices are bad enough so they help me choose the right product very easily."
He says:
"Good luck with choosing between the next products, cuz I won't answer anymore."
She smiles and sweetly says:
"Reiji-kun, do you want to have one slap from me or two?"
He says to himself:
"She is the perfect example of sweet but poisonous at the same time."
She is holding two cans of drinks in her hands—one is coffee and the other is soda.
He is looking around and sees one of his classmates:
"N-Nozomi... san?"
She asks him:
"Alright! Which one would you choose?"
He whispers to her "N-Nozomi."
She says:
"What do you mean by that?"
He holds her hand and says as they walk away:
"Let's have both cans, alright? For now, we gotta leave the store or else she would catch both of us."
As they are both hiding their faces from Nozomi the cashier says to them:
"Thank you very much. Please visit us again."
Nozomi slightly tilts her head:
"Do I... know them?"
Reiji closes the door of their apartment and says to Emiko:
"I think she didn't recognise us."
She moves her shoulders:
"I don't know."
He walks here and there:
"Ughh! What if she knew who we were?"
She chuckles:
"Dude, c'mon, there's nothing wrong with buying groceries."
He stops and says:
"Groceries aren't the main problem here—it's us."
She replies:
"Chill out, we are roommates only."
He says:
"That's already enough for others to think the wrong way about us."
She opens the can of coffee, takes a sip, and says:
"So, what are you thinking now?"
He replies:
"I have a plan... Let's split this grocery routine."
She is stunned after hearing it and says:
"I am... NOT GOING ALONE!"
He says:
"YES! YOU ARE. WE CAN'T GO TOGETHER CUZ IT'S RISKY."
She stands up:
"If I go alone there will be no one to hold the cart for me."
He sits down:
"Oh, yeah? I don't care. I just don't want anyone to catch us."
She throws a pillow at him and runs towards her room. She smashes the door after yelling:
"MAKE SURE TO PREPARE THE DINNER!"
Their neighbour—an old man—shakes his head in disappointment:
"When are we going to have a calm day again?"
