Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 Family meal 2

In the blink of an eye, the weekend had arrived.

Gabe Carter hadn't seen her sister for a few days, and hearing that she had gotten married so quickly made him lose his appetite.

Would that man treat her well? Was he the type who had an ex-lover? What if he changed his mind like that bastard Daniel?

These questions had been lingering in Gabe's mind for the past few days. Today, he finally got to see her.

"Sister, you haven't been home these past few days. Where have you been?" Gabe complained in frustration.

After all, they couldn't just get married without saying a word. He was the last person in the family to know about this, and he felt a little hurt.

Mrs. Carter was pushed into the passenger seat by her son and turned around to glare at him: "Of course, your sister is with Alex, where else could she go? Your sister isn't a lost child that you're afraid of losing."

In fact, she had been staying at a hotel these past few days, and conveniently bought a few more apartments for herself. Later, she could openly move out and live independently without fear of anyone telling on her.

Alex frowned slightly, barely noticeable, then slowly said, "Auntie, although New York is quite safe, it's not always safe out there."

The hidden meaning was: she might not get lost.

Mrs. Carter smiled awkwardly, not daring to refute Alex's reminder.

Sitting in the back seat, Gabe and his sister sat next to each other. Hearing this, he was even more worried about his sister. This "brother-in-law" looked strong; would he bully his sister?

Everyone in the car had their own mood. Finally, the car arrived at the Emperor Restaurant.

Emma had just entered, and Daniel's mother, Emelyn, and a few other women followed.

David was the first to arrive. That day, after returning home, his hateful son had brought him a "surprise" that surprised him.

He seemed to be showing off, as if he wanted to respond to his previous doubts about his ability to pursue others.

"Humph, you bastard, he's already thirty years old, and he's still struggling to pursue a girl, and he still dares to brag. If it weren't for my urging and support, I don't know when he would be able to marry her."

The butler only laughed when he heard this; he was already used to this kind of reproach from the old man.

"Mr. Knight, you're here early."

David saw Mrs. Carter smiling as she walked over, and immediately smiled brightly: "Now we have to change the way we address each other, we are in-laws."

"Sit down, waiter, bring the food."

During the meal, the happiest people were these two parents; they easily agreed with each other.

Although his son seemed very happy, when he saw the bright red marriage certificate placed in front of him, David felt somewhat relieved. The Knight family had never had any shocking scandals, and his son was not as "unusual" as rumored.

The same was true for Mrs. Carter. Although her daughter had been broken up before, this time she married a talented man. This was indeed a good thing.

"Mrs. Carter, my son really doesn't understand the rules. He rushed to register the marriage without even discussing the dowry. But don't worry, my family won't let Emma suffer any losses. She and Alex will have a house in her name as a honeymoon suite. I just happen to have an empty villa in the suburbs of Washington. If Emma likes it, she can stay there right away. Of course, if Emma likes another one, we're willing to buy one more."

Emma was about to open her mouth, but the man beside her gently patted her hand, and he shook his head slightly.

She had no choice but to endure it, not saying anything more.

There was no need to discuss houses in the capital; a house here was worth more than a dozen in New York.

Mrs. Carter was overjoyed, smiling brightly: "We don't object, we will listen to you."

"Don't worry. We've already prepared the dowry; it will be transferred directly to Emma's account. Do you think that's okay?"

Mrs. Carter hesitated for a moment and then replied, "No problem."

Even if the father-in-law transferred money to his daughter, it would be considered as giving it to her, as long as he took the money from his daughter later.

Emma was quite surprised. David seemed to know her mother's greed; all the arrangements were transferred directly to her account. She looked curiously at the man with a sharp face beside her.

He glanced at her, his eyes seemed to imply something, then blinked.

It seemed that Alex had arranged it himself.

But her mother could rest assured, she would not accept these things, and her mother should not expect herself to become a "money-hungry mother".

David hesitated for a moment and then said, "But Alex, you and Emma are currently having an important problem, which is living apart. Emma, do you want to go to the capital to work?"

Emma was a little stunned; this was really beyond her expectations. She had never thought about going to Washington; her career in New York had just begun. Even if she wanted to develop in the capital, it was definitely not now.

Mrs. Carter immediately spoke up: "My daughter is fine."

What's wrong with going to Washington? Having a household registration in the capital was a big step forward, even better.

But Alex didn't wait for her to answer, and flatly refused: "My current job is in New York, and I have no intention of moving. Dad, I will focus on investing in New York in the second half of this year, and the headquarters already has someone in charge. If the company can't operate without me, then maybe we need to change the management team."

For the first time today, David frowned. He didn't agree with his son's decision.

Both his son and daughter-in-law were in New York; wouldn't it be difficult to meet them?

"No need to rush, you should consider it slowly, don't put pressure on yourself."

During the meal, Gabe went out to use the restroom and happened to see Alex coming out as well. Gabe didn't like this brother-in-law at all. He was very worried about his sister, afraid that Alex would be like Daniel and hurt her. Gabe glared at Alex. "I will never consider you as a brother-in-law. Never."
