Chapter 14 - Reunion and practical class

All characters and story belong to Kohei Horikoshi and Masashi Kishimoto

Bakugo was about to head off to train, but he remembered that from now on he had a new home. In this world, unlike his own, those admitted to the ninja academy were considered emancipated and could live on their own even though they were only 8 years old. He received an orphan's pension to buy food, supplies, clothing, and other things he needed to live. This was better for him, since he wouldn't have to continue sharing a room with the orphanage extras. Besides, since he was actually around 18, he was perfectly capable of living on his own.

Their new home was a small apartment on the outskirts of the village, but since the village wasn't very big compared to Tokyo or Musutafu, it wasn't far from the Ninja Academy either. Bakugo walked in and grimaced at the sight of all the dirt and dust in the apartment. He was convinced no one had lived there for at least five years.

The ash-blond boy, with his orphan's pension money, went out to buy basic cleaning and hygiene products, such as toothbrushes, soap, brooms, and dustpans. He didn't have any money left for food, but Bakugo wasn't worried; he was a good climber and could pick fruit from the trees without any problem. After shopping, he went back to the apartment and cleaned it from top to bottom until it was as good as new; the apartment didn't look the same anymore, even though it was so clean he'd left it. Bakugo was a real stickler for such things. As soon as he finished cleaning, the blond boy heard a knock on the door. He went to open it, grumbling internally about being disturbed so soon, and on the other side of the door stood Ayame, the daughter of the owner of the Ichiraku's, with a radiant smile.

"Bakugo, it's me, Ayame," Ayame said, waving at him with her left hand, as her right hand held a heavy bag. Bakugo frowned at her. "Don't tell me you forgot about me, Bakugo?"

"I'm not stupid! Of course I remember a brat like you!" Bakugo replied, raising his voice, but the truth was, he had forgotten her name.

"Hahaha," Ayame laughed, covering her mouth with her hand. "As grumpy as ever, Bakugo. I'm glad you haven't changed at all in the past two and a half years."

"What are you doing here, brat?" Bakugo asked, wanting to quickly end the conversation.

"Brat? But I'm already 12!" Ayame complained.

"What do you want me to call you? Old?" Bakugo asked ironically.

"You're something else!" Ayame sighed deeply. "So, are you going to let me in or not?"

"No." Bakugo was about to close the door, but Ayame was faster and managed to enter the ash-blonde's apartment. "Damn brat! Why are you asking if you're just going to get in anyway?"

"Wow, I expected it to be smaller," Ayame said, ignoring the blond's complaints.

—Well, you've seen the apartment. Now get lost. —

"Don't be like that, Bakugo," Ayame scolded him. "I heard the Hokage tell my father that from today onwards you would be living alone in this empty apartment. As your good friend, I came to help you by bringing you food from the restaurant."

"Since when are we friends, brat?" Bakugo asked.

"Everyone needs friends. With your personality, I imagine you don't have many, so you just put up with it. You're my friend, and that's that," Ayame said, placing the food on the counter. "Dad added extra spice."

"Tsk," Bakugo muttered. "Now go away and stop bothering me."

"If you don't want me to bother you, you'd better come to Dad's restaurant from time to time. I'm working as a waitress now!" Ayame said excitedly.

—Ein? But you're a kid! —

"I already told you I'm not a kid! I'm a 12-year-old lady!" Ayame replied, sticking her tongue out at him. "Ugh, my break passed me by. I have to get to work! See you, Bakugo!" Ayame said goodbye.

"Isn't there child exploitation here? Although I don't know why I'm surprised, they let 12-year-olds fight in ninja wars here," Bakugo thought.

He spent the rest of the day in his new home doing push-ups and sit-ups. The next day at school, Iruka-sensei asked his students to be quiet; he had something very important to say.

"Except for Bakugo, this is your third year. I think with what I've taught you, you're more than ready to perform this technique. Henge No Jutsu!" Iruka exclaimed, clasping his hands. Suddenly, a smoke screen appeared in Iruka's place. When the smoke cleared, Iruka was still there, but transformed into Minato Namikaze. "I want you to transform, like I did, into the Yondaime Hokage. This isn't an exam, so don't get nervous. Any volunteers?"

"Yo, yo, Iruka-sensei!" Naruto raised his hand eagerly.

"Go ahead, Naruto. Show us what the Yondaime's son can do," Iruka said with a smile.

—Henge no Jutsu! —Naruto imitated Iruka, and performed the technique perfectly.

"Wow..." several children murmured. "You can tell he's the Yondaime's son!"

The remaining children lined up and performed the technique in turn. The only ones who performed it perfectly were Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura. Those who were almost perfect were Hinata, Kiba, Shikamaru, and Ino. The rest of the children and Choji would not have passed if it were an exam.

"You've pleasantly surprised me," Iruka said with a smile. "Now we'll continue with..."

"Iruka-sensei!" Kiba exclaimed. "You skipped the new guy!"

—It's Bakugo's second day of school. Later

—But we want to know what the new guy is capable of! Right, guys?—Kiba asked the class.

"Yessss!" they all answered at once. Some remained silent, like Hinata and Sasuke.

"Anyway..." Iruka sighed. "Wanna try, Bakugo?" the sensei asked.

"What should I do?" Bakugo asked.

"Concentrate and maintain a clear image of the Yondaime. Once you've done that, concentrate your chakra in your hands and make this seal," Iruka explained, showing him the seal. "Then expel the chakra all at once, and you'll have transformed into the Fourth Hokage."

"Is there no other way to do it?" Bakugo asked.

—Mmm, not that I know of—Iruka said doubtfully. —Is something wrong, Bakugo?—

"I don't know how to concentrate chakra. Or use it, or mold it, or any of that crap," Bakugo replied, not really caring.

"Not knowing how to use chakra..." Iruka repeated in shock since the Hokage had told him he was an amazing child.

He wasn't the only one in shock; all the students, except for Sasuke, who already knew, were petrified. The first to react was Kiba.

—HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! —Kiba laughed out loud as he threw himself to the ground. —Did you hear him? He said he doesn't know how to use chakra! The same guy who says he's going to be the fifth Hokage doesn't know how to use chakra! HAHAHAHAHA!

Everyone in the class laughed. Well, not everyone. Hinata, Sasuke, and Naruto remained silent. Sasuke because he already knew about Bakugo and that wasn't what he was laughing at, Hinata out of empathy, and Naruto because he was still in shock. His father was impressed with Bakugo, but that didn't fit with what the ash-blonde had just said.

Bakugo remained suspiciously quiet and calm. His mind wandered through his memories. It was a scene very similar to when he was a child in his other world. He and the rest of the children were making fun of Deku for wanting to go to UA even though he didn't have a Quirk. His calm quickly faded, and he glared menacingly at Kiba.

"I don't need to turn into that stupid old man to kick your ass, dogface," Bakugo said, narrowing his crimson eyes and baring his teeth.

The class stopped laughing. As much as he looked like a fool, they didn't feel comfortable laughing at someone so scary. Kiba took a step back in fear, but seeing everyone watching him, he regained his composure.

—HA. You're just all talk, new kid. —Kiba said, unsure of himself.

"Come on, kids, stop fighting. It's time for Genjutsu class," Iruka said, trying to ease the tension in the room.

Just like with the Henge No Jutsu, Bakugo was incapable of performing even the weakest possible Genjutus. And therefore, he was also incapable of creating defenses for the class's Genjutsus. The class's fear of Bakugo disappeared as they realized the ash-blond's uselessness. He could only groan in helplessness. He knew the road was going to be tough, but he didn't expect it to be that tough at first.
