Chapter 25 - [Bonus: Telephone Shopping]

Ji Yongtao had been on two blind dates before.

One was with an elementary school teacher, with gentle features, glasses, and a knee-length plaid skirt. They

'd arranged to go shopping on a weekend trip, and while everyone was out, they'd received a call about a copier and a robbery at a gold shop, calling for emergency assistance.

Another time, his boss had directly set him up with a tall, short, neatly cut messenger girl from the unit.

They'd also arranged to go to a movie after work, but halfway downstairs they were called back because someone had robbed the payroll van.

When he first arrived in City A, his senior told him the team leader had recently changed and things were getting busy.

Ji Yongtao: "Why the sudden change of leader?"

Senior: "Haven't you heard? He died in the line of duty."

The office was a little empty. Last week, a few men with submachine guns robbed an armored car, resulting in casualties among the team.

City A was relatively better off.

Back then, Chu Jiajun was only a teenager, crouching on the side of the road with his adoptive father's men, waiting for the armored car to arrive before the men pushed him into the middle of the road. Cars that saw children running out would slam on the brakes, only to be looted by the bandits lying in wait on both sides.

Some failed to brake in time. Chu Jiajun saw a blinding flash of light before his eyes, and then he felt himself soar into the air. Miraculously, he escaped serious injury.

The man hadn't planned to keep him for long, but the little creature was incredibly resilient and a quick learner. He'd play pitiful to distract the security guard, or hide a gun under a toy before suddenly unleashing it.

Years passed, and Ji Yongtao, having reached thirty, had nearly given up on finding a partner.

Some suggested he adopt a child; those days, those who weren't married by thirty often relished the sympathetic glances of those around them.

Ji Yongtao: "Tomorrow, after I pick up my cousin, I'll go to the train station and pick one up.

" -

For Ji Yongtao's birthday, people from his workplace set up several tables at a seafood restaurant. Except for a few on duty, everyone else was drunk.

He was forced to drink heavily, and Chu Jiajun carried him back, where he squatted on the side of the road and vomited.

Chu Jiajun threw the man onto the bed and, frowning, tore off his dirty clothes.

"Damn it, I can't keep this bed," he thought.

After killing his adoptive father and establishing his own sect, he had completely abandoned his old, grimy lifestyle; everything needed to be brand new.

He grabbed a watering can and sprayed Ji Yongtao. After a few sprays, realizing he was truly intoxicated, he boldly stood on the bed and jumped back and forth on either side.

Chu Jiajun slipped and fell on top of him. Ji Yongtao still didn't wake up. Curious,

he leaned over and studied him, curious about what made him different from the others, something that had stopped him from taking action. After

studying him for a while, his patience ran out. He went to watch videos, listened to crosstalk over a cold beer, sat on the bed with half a watermelon in his arms, and dug into shopping magazines, circling anything he liked with his fingernails. Soon, the magazines were covered in dents.

Ji Yongtao's approval was a must for any major appliance purchases. So Chu Jiajun took the opportunity, cradling his arms around Ji Yongtao, magazines in hand: "Brother Yong, brother Yong, can I buy you a big TV? If you don't say anything within three seconds, I'll take that as your agreement." "

Okay, TV.

" Then he went back: "Brother Yong, brother Yong, can I buy you a new fan? If you don't say anything, I'll take that as your agreement." "How about a new VCR?" "How about a new car?" "Oh, you agree?" "Great, great..."

A few days later, Ji Yongtao stared in amazement at the pile of cardboard boxes blocking the doorway. They were all from those magazines he'd ordered by phone. The department store employee who'd made the delivery congratulated him with a beaming smile: "Sir, are you decorating your new house? Have you bought everything? If you need anything else, you can order from us."
