Chapter 22 - Chapter 22 : The Seance of Fire

"Alright, I'll stop chatting. I'm heading home now," Ron said, waving goodbye to Bonnie.

"Okay, see you later," Bonnie replied, waving back before heading off to find Caroline.

That night, the three best friends — Bonnie, Caroline, and Elena — gathered at Elena's house for a girls' night. But just as they were about to do their nails, they found the necklace in Bonnie's bag.

"Ron, did you put the necklace back in Bonnie's bag?" Caroline asked over the phone.

Ron was sitting at his dining table eating instant noodles for dinner when he heard her.

"No, it should still be in my coat upstairs. Let me check."

He immediately activated the Rabbit Sigil spell for speed and dashed upstairs.

"Okay… maybe Emily did it. Where are you guys now? I'll come over," Ron said as he realized the necklace was missing from his pocket.

"We're at Elena's place. You should come take a look," Caroline said.

"Alright, on my way." Ron grabbed his coat and headed out, driving toward Elena's house.

What he didn't know was that, in the meantime, the three girls had decided to hold a seance to summon Emily — hoping to get some answers. After all, Emily was Bonnie's ancestor; surely she wouldn't hurt her.

By the time Ron arrived at Elena's house, he saw Bonnie walking out the front door.

"Hey, Bonnie," he called out as he got out of his car.

But "Bonnie" didn't answer. She just flicked her wrist — and the door to Elena's house slammed shut behind her.

"Emily?" Ron realized immediately that something was off.

Emily turned to glance at him, waved her hand, and sent him flying through the air. By the time Ron managed to stand up again, she was gone.

He rushed into Elena's house and startled both girls.

"What happened? Why is Emily possessing Bonnie?" Ron demanded.

"We thought maybe she had something important to say to Bonnie," Caroline explained nervously. "So we tried a seance to contact her."

"So when she possessed Bonnie, did she say anything?" Ron asked.

"She said, 'I can't let him have it. It must be destroyed,'" Elena recalled.

"The last time Bonnie was possessed, she went to Fell's Church, right?" Ron asked, remembering what Bonnie had told Elena earlier that day.

"Yeah, she said Emily took her there in a dream," Elena replied.

"Send me the location — I'll go check," Ron said. Since he barely knew the area (and was terrible with directions), he needed a map pin to find it.

"Got it. I'm sending it to your phone," Caroline said.

Unfortunately, Ron's sense of direction failed him again. By the time he reached the spot, he saw Damon thrown against a tree — impaled through the torso by a branch.

Ron saw an opportunity he couldn't ignore. He invoked the Rabbit Sigil again, grabbed a wooden stake, and lunged at Damon.

"Sorry, but I can't let you kill him," Emily said, flinging Ron away once more with a single motion.

At that moment, Stefan arrived and pulled Damon down from the tree.

"Emily, you were afraid he'd get the necklace — so why stop me from killing him? Don't you want revenge?" Ron demanded.

"It was my bargain with him," Emily said solemnly. "He saved my family. I broke that promise. I can't watch him die in front of me."

"Stefan," she added, beginning to draw a magical circle on the ground with a stick, "the people of this town don't deserve this curse. They should never know such darkness and evil."

"What do you mean by 'evil'?" Stefan asked, confused.

"Emily, I swear, you'll regret this!" Damon shouted angrily before she could reply.

"I won't let you release them," Emily snapped back.

"Them? What are you hiding this time, Damon?" Stefan demanded.

"What difference does it make?" Damon said bitterly.

"Emily, tell me what he did," Stefan insisted.

"To save her, I had to save the others," Emily replied.

"You saved everyone in that church?" Stefan asked.

"If I saved one, I saved them all," Emily said quietly.

"I don't care about them. I only want Katherine," Damon retorted.

"I knew I shouldn't have trusted a word you said," Stefan said angrily. "This isn't about love, is it? It's about revenge."

"They're not mutually exclusive," Damon replied coldly.

"Damon, you can't do this! There were twenty-seven vampires locked in there!" Stefan shouted.

Ron, leaning against a tree, smirked. "Wow, Stefan, you really are gullible. You actually believed him?"

"I don't know what Damon told you to make you trust him, but think about it — you're the idiot who told him the necklace was with Bonnie! And let me guess — it was Elena who called you for help, right? And you told Damon that too? You're hopeless," Ron mocked mercilessly.

"They already know too much," Damon said, ignoring the taunts and turning back to Emily. "Once they learn the truth, they'll burn your witch descendants and hunt us all down. You have to trust me."

"It's different now," Emily said firmly. "I won't free them. I can't."

She raised her hands, let go of the stick, and began chanting an incantation.

"Fire, consume!"

Flames erupted from the circle, engulfing it in bright orange light. Ignoring Damon's desperate pleas, Emily hurled the necklace into the fire — and it shattered in midair.

At that moment, Elena and Caroline arrived. Stefan and Ron quickly stopped them from rushing forward, afraid they'd get hurt.

As the necklace burned, the fire slowly faded. Emily lowered her head — and when she looked up again, she was gone. Bonnie blinked, dazed and confused.

But Damon, enraged, lunged forward and sank his fangs into Bonnie's neck.

"Get the hell off her!" Ron shouted, kicking Damon hard enough to send him flying.

As Bonnie collapsed, Stefan rushed over and caught her.

"She's still breathing," Ron said after checking her pulse.

"I can save her," Stefan said, tearing open his wrist to feed her his blood — but Ron stopped him.

"Don't. Try this instead." Ron gripped Stefan's wrist with one hand, pressed the other over Bonnie's wound, and activated the Horse Sigil.

Thanks to his quick reflexes, Bonnie hadn't lost too much blood — within seconds, the wound sealed, and her eyes fluttered open.

"It's okay now," Ron said, helping her to her feet.

"The necklace is gone. You should be free of all this now… unless you're just too tired of this world," he added, pulling a wooden stake from his coat.

"We'll leave in a few days," Stefan said quickly, grabbing Damon and speeding away.

Ron sighed. "Good. As long as everyone's safe. Come on, I'll drive you home," he said, turning to Elena, Caroline, and Bonnie.
