Chapter One: The Cursed World
Night had fallen on the forest of Tokyo Park, where the pitch-black darkness embraced the tangled branches of the trees, and the eye could see nothing but moving shadows writhing like creatures escaping from an unknown world. In the heart of this darkness, where a breeze carried the cold whispers of the night, a bloody battle was raging. The scent of damp earth filled the air, mingling with a strange, metallic odor emanating from the body of a colossal beast, nearly choking the throat. The fallen leaves rustled softly underfoot, as if groaning under the weight of the terrifying scene.
In the midst of this catastrophe stood a blond young man, his eyes azure like a turbulent sea on a summer night, shining with a mysterious glow. In his hands, he held a Japanese katana, its blade glittering with electric blue sparks that flew around it like lightning on a stormy night. A mocking smile hung on his lips, almost piercing the darkness, giving his young face a mysterious appearance that combined innocence and cruelty. His breath rose in the cold air like white clouds, then dissipated into the darkness.
A thunderous roar erupted from the three-meter-tall monster, causing the ground to shake underfoot. Its massive body resembled a moving mountain, its cracked skin oozing a sticky substance that stank of rotting flesh. The beast moved swiftly, like an arrow shot from a bow, but the young man dodged the attack with a lightning-fast leap to the right, leaving a trail of mist in his wake. He stood behind the beast, his breathing ragged, his chest rising and falling like a raging sea. "Damn, this shit is fast… it's second or first rate," he thought, his inner voice echoing in a cavern. His voice wasn't just words; it was a mixture of fear and excitement, like someone standing on the edge of a precipice.
The young man didn't hesitate, but raised his sword in a curved manner, as if he were drawing an arc in the air. A wave of blue electricity was generated, cutting its way towards the monster like a poisonous snake. The moment the wave collided with the monster, a deafening shattering sound was heard, like glass shattering on a tumultuous night. The monster recoiled with a terrifying scream, nearly bursting his eardrums. The young man placed his hand on the sword hilt tightly, as if trying to find something stable in this turbulent world. He said to himself, his thoughts racing like the wind, "I can't believe all this is happening to me after getting into all these troubles... I expected that I would go to the anime world, the world of everyday life, where I would become a high school student, and girls would come to me every day to go on dates."
These thoughts flowed through his mind like a running river, carrying with them disappointments and broken dreams. Unfortunately, those were his absurd thoughts before he learned the terrifying truth: He had stumbled into a terrifying world, one inhabited by demons who feasted on the negative energy of humans. If anyone had known at that moment, they would have realized that he was, in fact, someone who had been transported to another world.
In his previous life, he was twenty years old, a university student studying medicine, and considered himself the best among his classmates. He was lonely and friendless, not because he couldn't make friends, but because he wanted to. His life was peaceful, and he occasionally enjoyed watching anime and manga, especially "Hunter x Hunter," which was like his own private world. His life continued like this until the series he loved stopped, and he felt as if a knife had pierced his heart. The writer he considered a friend was the one who dealt the blow. Anyway, it was painful, but he had gotten used to the pain.
One day, he was out shopping and, on the spur of the moment, decided to buy some ice cream. Unfortunately, it turned out to be his worst decision. The person selling the ice cream turned out to be using illegal substances, so when he ate it, his heart stopped immediately. It was a horrible way to die, he thought.
After his death, he didn't encounter what he usually expected in otherworldly stories: no rulers or cosmic lords apologizing for the mistake and explaining that he had died prematurely. Instead, he found himself waking up in the body of a thirteen-year-old boy named Nakamori Kaito. It wasn't easy to accept, but, to be honest, he quickly accepted it because he loved anime. He was sad and angry, but he quickly got used to it.
It was also important to mention that he had no family, or at least, the owner of this body didn't. His parents had apparently died long ago, and his grandfather, with whom he lived, had also died several months earlier. This child was familyless and depressed. Most people, or even he himself if he had witnessed it, would have expected that this was the reason he committed suicide—to take control of his body—but sadly, that wasn't the case.
The creature he saw was hideous in every sense of the word, resembling a spider merged with a mouse, with terrifying yellow teeth. These were the visions Kaito had seen while walking the streets. Yes, it turned out that the world he'd been transported to wasn't the civilized one he'd expected. How so? First, because he was in Japan, in Tokyo, and he'd expected a normal school life, plus the attraction of a group of girls, thanks to his knowledge of his previous life, his intelligence, and his smile. But he stopped being narcissistic when he realized that this world wasn't what he'd expected.
Everywhere he went, he was able to see these monstrous creatures, like the creatures in horror movies, but ten times, even a hundred times more realistic. So he figured: either he'd gone crazy and imagined things, like Kaito, or he'd somehow managed to inherit his madness that had caused his suicide. Poor guy, it seemed he'd been seeing these creatures for long periods of time after the death of his grandfather, who had been his whole family. He'd been seeing them until he'd started distancing himself from his friends at school, and even the teachers had started to worry about him because he'd scream about things not existing.
Back to him, after Kaito died and took over the body, he didn't know how to say it, but he too started seeing these things. But unlike him, he didn't scream. Soon, after days, people started to stop looking at him strangely. They thought he'd gotten better. Many in this world might not know that the previous Kaito had died a long time ago, and that he'd taken over his body. He sighed quietly.
That evening, it was time for him to return home, as he was alone. Some might ask: Why doesn't he go to an orphanage, since he is still a minor? The answer is simple: It seems that this world is different, where a Japanese child can live at home as long as he has the capital. Simply put, it was because of the insurance Kaito received from his grandfather, who left him a good financial account to live out his life at least until he reached the age of twenty-five before the money ran out. There was no need to go to an orphanage, and so he was spared.
Anyway, the house he lived in was a good, traditional Japanese house, the kind you could always find in Japan, in an average neighborhood in every sense of the word. It was something completely anime-like. After his death and taking over Kaito's body, he started cleaning the house, which was a terrible mess, like an animal pen. But thanks to his continuous effort, he managed to return it to a house where people lived, or at least he lived in it. He told himself as silent encouragement before going directly to the main room, where the TV was.
He hadn't gone there to rest, but to ponder: "What the hell is going on? Am I really crazy? Or are these visions not real?" These thoughts were running through his mind nonstop. Those demonic entities were staring not only at him, but at all humans, as if ready to pounce, but waiting for something. Of course, he didn't know what that something was. All he could do was guess as to what he could do to solve this mystery.
At around ten o'clock, after three months of staying in this body and getting used to daily life, going to school and back, he had made some great friends, or so he claimed. In reality, he couldn't make friends, and after what had happened with Kaito, there was no chance of making any. Of course, he wasn't sad.
On Friday night, he heard voices from outside. They kept coming back and forth. But he kept telling himself, "It's all an illusion. It's just the wind. We're in Japan, there's bound to be wind and bad weather." Of course, these things weren't normal, but he didn't care much. He was a very brave person, or so he tried to convince himself, while the real Kaito shivered under the covers.
Time went on like this until the voices stopped. At that moment, he finally said to himself, "Damn everything! Will I die the same way the young man before me did? Will I commit suicide?" This question was running through his mind. He was now thirteen, whereas in his previous life he had died at twenty. Would he die younger now? Even the greatest villains wouldn't accept such an insult in their lives, let alone him, a transmigrator.
He did what every brave man does: he got up and went to the library. Yes, in this house, there was a library. Why did he go there? It's simple: he had been going to that place for a long time to understand geography and if there had been some changes. As the first changes that appeared in his life, except for seeing demons that others didn't, he tried to find some similarities. If there were big changes in this world, like there being a Naruto, Dragon Ball, or One Piece manga, he would have been happy. But his happiness quickly faded, and the reason was that the manga he loved, "Hunter x Hunter," was nowhere to be seen in this world.
It was a disaster, compounded by the disastrous visions and hallucinations that he was certain were not just delusions. His presence in this library for so long made him discover something important. There was a book with a simple title: "These Insistences Must Be Buried." The title was written above the cover, and directly below it: "The Diary of Tanori Nakamori." That was precisely the name of his grandfather, Kaito.
It was terrifyingly so: outside, at night, alone at thirteen, trembling from strange sounds and strange visions, and finding a book about his grandfather's diaries, he would do what anyone would do: respect that his grandfather wrote the diaries and leave them, pretending he hadn't seen them. Of course, that hadn't happened. He took the diaries, sat down at the table, and began leafing through them. And there he began to discover this world.
Back to the present, the monster, who knew he was called "Curse," let out a scream in front of him, shaking the ground, like an earthquake. One blow caused the floor to explode, like paper. He jumped back, then used the sword in his hand with a powerful strike, severing the Curse's hand. He screamed in pain, and took several steps back. Her disgusting face, covered in blood and vomit, looked at him angrily.
"What? Don't you have money for beautification?" he sneered. There was no need to know if she understood his meaning or not, because the next second, he unleashed a barrage of punches, each one faster than the last. "Looks like I should end it all now," he thought. "That was good training." Without hesitation, he slashed down the trajectory of the sword he had summoned with a cursed ability. The name of his cursed ability was "Cursed Aura." Using this aura, he could mimic the power of the Nen in the anime "Hunter x Hunter." In his previous life, the cursed energy that originated from negative emotions transformed into a wall of golden energy directly around his body.
The blade he summoned, being a Transformation-type, created this ability, which was a Transfiguration-type sword. The cursed energy within the curse, which was a second-class one, erupted at its maximum power. The shockwave immediately caused Kaito's posture to shake slightly, but he smiled.
He said, "As they say, people who want to die always seem to be in a hurry for the end." Kaito didn't delay, activating his special ability. Waves of electricity appeared around the tip of the sword. The transmutation ability transformed the cursed energy into electrical blades. The electricity around the tip of the sword caused a wave of bright light to be emitted.
The curse was directly affected, even if it was just a mindless curse, it still had some biological problems. This was what Kaito discovered after fighting so many curses in the past years. It disappeared and was behind the top. The sword light moved at a rapid trajectory, slicing through the hands possessed by the curse. The curse didn't hesitate, and immediately let out a painful scream. Kaito directly shot out a stream of electricity from the sword blade.
"This is the end, you ugly creature," he said. As expected, waves of electricity gathered like claws in the air, a distance of half a dozen meters. A bright golden and red light shot out, blasting the curse to pieces.
Kaito
took a deep breath and sighed, "Fuck fighting monsters."
