The last moments of Lui's life were painfully ordinary. The hum of fluorescent lights, endless piles of paperwork, and the hollow chatter of coworkers—mundane, suffocating.
Then came the screech of brakes, a sharp pain in his chest, and darkness.
When he opened his eyes, the world was no longer gray.
Sunlight spilled like liquid gold across the towering trees of a forest that seemed almost alive. The air shimmered with magic, and rivers sparkled with colors he had never seen. A gentle breeze whispered through the leaves, carrying faint murmurs that sounded like thoughts and words at the same time.
Beneath him, he felt movement—his body was no longer human. Clawed limbs, a long tail, and delicate iridescent wings trembled under his command. His scales glimmered softly, catching the sunlight like polished gems.
A voice, not spoken aloud but felt within his mind, resonated:
Welcome, Kaelith.
"I… I'm… a dragon?"
His voice sounded strange even to him, but natural.
From the forest's edge, a massive figure emerged—a dragon, scales shimmering like polished gemstones, eyes glowing with ancient wisdom.
"You're finally awake,"
the dragon rumbled.
"I am Zorynth, a Joy Dragon sealed for a thousand years. And you, little one, are my companion."
"You… you're real?"
Kaelith stammered, awe-struck.
"Of course."
Zorynth said, circling him.
"Your wings are weak, your claws small, yet destiny stirs within you. And you shall bear my name as your own."
Kaelith. The name resonated deep within him. It was his, perfect and true.
Days passed, and Kaelith learned to control his new body. Zorynth taught him to move, flap, and breathe fire—small sparks at first, then larger flames that could scorch stone. Yet the older dragon's teachings were about more than strength.
"Patience, little one,"
Zorynth instructed.
"Power without control is meaningless. You must learn to influence, not destroy."
Kaelith soon understood. Respect, fear, and admiration were tools of leadership, far more potent than raw strength.
It was during this time that Kaelith met Luminara, a mysterious figure appearing in the clearing one evening. Despite her childlike form, a power radiated from her that made even Zorynth pause.
"Kaelith."
she said, her voice musical but commanding,
"your attempts at leadership amuse me. Power alone does not make a leader. Insight does."
"I will learn."
Kaelith said firmly.
"Teach me."
Her eyes sparkled.
"Very well. You will be tested—not with combat, but with choices. Many will come seeking you. How you respond will shape the leader you will become."
The test arrived swiftly. A group of kobolds stumbled into Lorienwald, terrified and desperate. Their home had been destroyed by rogue dragons, and they sought protection.
Kaelith stepped forward.
"You will be safe here," he said.
"But you must respect the forest and its inhabitants. Coexistence, or nothing."
The kobolds nodded, eyes wide with relief. Nearby, goblins and direwolves observed quietly. Kaelith realized that leadership required trust, respect, and the courage to enforce rules.
Weeks passed. Kaelith's alliances strengthened, and Zorynth's lessons continued. He learned to sense magic currents in the earth, communicate silently with the forest, and draw upon latent cosmic energy he didn't yet understand.
One night, under a sky littered with stars, Zorynth's massive form loomed beside him.
"Do you feel him?"
the dragon asked.
"Who?"
Kaelith frowned.
"Primovast."
Zorynth replied.
"The first Dragon. The Creator of all Worlds. He watches, always. He has granted you this second life, and your growth has not gone unnoticed."
Kaelith shivered.
"I… I'm not sure I can live up to him."
"You need not,"
Zorynth said softly.
"Only become yourself. That is the path of all true leaders."
Then, a shadow passed over the forest. The stars dimmed as Luminara appeared at the clearing's edge, her tone unusually serious.
"The Omniverse stirs."
she said.
"Forces beyond comprehension are moving. You must grow faster, or the world you build will be crushed before it even begins."
Kaelith rose, claws digging into the earth, wings spreading wide.
"I will not fail. Lorienwald, and all who dwell here, will be protected."
Zorynth nodded.
"Resolve is only the beginning. Power alone is meaningless without wisdom. You are not alone, Kaelith. Never alone."
And so, the Eternal Pilgrimage began—not merely a rebirth, but a journey across a world of magic, monsters, and destiny, w
here Kaelith would shape the very future of all beings.
