Leti was 5 when she walked into her first music class. There were many instruments there, flute, violin, piano, trumpet, but out of all of them the one that called to her was the piano. She was a little girl then so she had no real dreams of her own but when she pushed down on those piano keys that day everything seemed right. She knew, that this would be her future.
When Flowers Collide
Leti was talking to her friends at her after school music class, as she always did, she showed them the new tricks she learned on the piano. She loved to boast, she knew she was good at it and she loved to show it off. Nia, her best friend, told her she may even be better than the high school music students. Nia wasn't really into music, her parents just wanted her to do something outside of school and at the Loraine Music Academy, she was able to play with her friends for hours. According to Leti, that was what everyone accept her thought. Leti was the only one who took music seriously. That's what she told herself everyday. "Leti it's time for a run through of the winter concert." Nia urged her, grabbing her hand and leading her where the rest of the students were going. At exactly 6:30 each day they did a run through of the concert coming up before ending the day. Leti even though she was only 7 at the time she had a solo in one of the songs, Winter Solstice, that the band was playing, on the piano. When it was her turn to play the solo she played loud and proud. She wanted everyone from the first year 5 and 6 year olds to the high school 16 and 17 year olds know how amazing she was, to know that she was worthy of being watched and admired. Her solo ended the song and people clapped and told her she did amazing. She lived for the attention she got, but then a boy, one she hadn't seen before, came up to her. "For the first note in measure 81 you played an F sharp instead of an F natural, otherwise it was really good." The boy smiled before walking away and Leti was dumbfounded. No student had ever corrected her, and she can't say it felt good. She replayed the song over and over at home on the family piano and until there were no mistakes. She kept thinking about that boy, about how he complimented her and criticized her at the same time. She knew she was probably diving into it too much but she hated the feeling of making a mistake, mistakes didn't lead to success.
