I watch in quiet panic as her eyes shut back. Her head slumps to the side and soon, she's back to her peaceful sleep.
I carefully drop her hand by her side and step back. To think she's here having the sleep of her life while my heart is heavy with emotions I can't seem to get rid of.
I pace about the room throughout the night, unable to get a wink of sleep. My brain is working constantly, trying to put some meaning to these feelings.
But I'm not able to. Morning dawns on me quicker than I expected.
I stand beside the bed and gaze down quietly at her.
If these bitter emotions are from remorse for how hard I was on her, then I think I know what to do.
I place a spare key to the room on the table beside the bed. Then I walk out and lock it from the outside.
With this, no one will interrupt her sleep.
Before going out, I instruct the maids to make sure they cook for her whatever she wishes to eat when she wakes up.
Then I get inside my car and drive off.
