Chapter 42 - A Bitter Tug in the Heart + Want?

I amble down the stairs, my steps weighed with an emotion I can't quite put a name to. My gaze is fixed and weighty upon Leiara.

She's sleeping so soundly. Her small face is smooth and calm, quiet like a silent ocean. 

Moving towards her, a force seems to be pulling me back, as though it is wrong for me to approach her.

Ever since she bluntly rejected my presence, I've had this constricting emotion inside my heart. It seems to have trapped my heart in a tightening cage of thorns.

Why? I find myself wondering.

When I reach her, I gaze down at her solemnly. She looks so innocent, so peaceful. I can't remember when last I saw this look on her face.

My mind replays the incidents that have occurred these past few days and I close my eyes in quiet unease.

Even though she's the one at fault, maybe physical violence wasn't the right way to handle things. There are many ways to reprimand someone, plenty other than physical violence.
