Chapter 87 - Chapter 86: Hal's Will

Hal could not accept Sinestro's ideology, and he posed a soul-searching question to Sinestro.

"Does the Corps know about everything you've done here?"

Sinestro didn't speak.

Of course, they didn't know, because such behavior was explicitly forbidden in the Green Lantern Corps.

Hal didn't hear an answer, but he already knew the answer.

He roared, and a powerful burst of willpower unleashed astonishing energy, forcefully breaking free from Sinestro's restraint.

Green light illuminated half the sky as he flew alongside Sinestro.

"Sinestro, you are utterly unworthy of being a Green Lantern!"

Sinestro was enraged upon hearing this, thinking, 'When I was a Green Lantern maintaining Universal order, you might not even have been born.'

'When is it your turn to lecture me?'

He manifested a meteor with his lantern ring. Tens of thousands of meters high, a green meteor was constructed like jade.

Sinestro tugged hard, and the meteor plunged, carrying immense mass and kinetic energy.

Hal looked back and thought, 'Can that even hit anyone?'

But Sinestro merely sneered, a flash of green light from his lantern ring, and the meteorite appeared instantly above Hal's head as if teleported.

Startled, Hal only had time to manifest a pair of hands, cupping the meteorite like a calyx.

But its immense kinetic energy still forced him to descend.

"You are too naive, Hal, both in skill and in spirit."

Sinestro still hadn't given up trying to persuade him.

"I thought you, with your more active mind, would be able to understand me."

Upon hearing this, Hal roared, "Never!"

"That's truly a pity." A murderous intent flashed in Sinestro's eyes.

He aimed for Hal's lantern ring; without it, Hal would be nothing.

In fact, this was true for most Green Lantern Corps members; once their lantern ring was disarmed, they became ordinary people, losing all superpowers.

Even Sinestro was no exception.

As he approached Hal, preparing to act, Hal instantly understood what he intended to do.

But he played along, and as Sinestro got closer, he suddenly released the energy maintaining the green giant hand, manifesting a wormhole beneath their feet.

A wormhole manifested by a lantern ring is different from a naturally formed one; it is not a 'sphere' but a true 'hole.'

This hole possessed immense gravitational pull, instantly sucking in Hal, Sinestro, and the meteorite he had manifested.

The wormhole then dissipated, and the Korugar citizens watched them disappear.

"What do we do?"

The Resistance witnessed the battle, their faces shrouded in Shadow.

Although Sinestro claimed to monitor every Korugar citizen on Korugar, he was clearly boasting.

He couldn't possibly monitor everyone constantly, or he wouldn't be able to do anything else.

Therefore, there had always been people on Korugar secretly engaging in activities against Sinestro's regime.

What Hal didn't know was that his 'incognito visit' on Korugar had received great attention from the Resistance.

Some of them had experience with interstellar travel and knew about the Green Lantern Corps.

They had even considered denouncing Sinestro's crimes to the Green Lantern Corps headquarters.

However, the location of Oa was a secret in the Universe, unknown to anyone except a Green Lantern.

And the sector where Korugar was located was entirely under Sinestro's jurisdiction alone, leaving them with no avenue for complaint.

Under these circumstances, Hal, the new Green Lantern, suddenly arriving on Korugar, undoubtedly became the Resistance's last hope.

After discreet observation, they confirmed that this Green Lantern had not yet colluded with Sinestro, so they decisively showed him the dark side of Korugar.

Thus, it's hard to say whether what Hal saw was embellished.

Among a group of people with concealed faces, one person, clearly with a leader's aura, deeply looked in the direction where the two Green Lanterns had left.

A moment later, he decisively gave the order: "This opportunity is too rare; we must not miss it!"

"Notify all cadres and their troops; we will launch our operation today!"

In outer space, a green wormhole suddenly appeared, spitting out two figures and a giant meteorite.

"How. Dare. You."

Sinestro looked around and, finding himself in an unfamiliar space, immediately flew into a rage!

He guided the meteorite directly to smash into Hal.

Thanks to Justice League training and Sinestro's prior instruction, Hal immediately protected himself with a shield.

He used his lantern ring to manifest and attach several thrusters to the meteorite.

Green Fire jetted out, and the meteorite flew towards Sinestro.

Sinestro sneered and cancelled the meteorite's manifestation, but after that, the thrusters Hal had manifested transformed into intercontinental missiles.

With a "boom," they exploded near him.

The plan succeeded, but Hal showed no complacency, still vigilantly watching the center of the explosion.

Sinestro wouldn't be so easily dealt with.

Sure enough, the next moment, Sinestro burst out of the green dust cloud, moving so fast that Hal almost couldn't keep up.

He threw a punch, and Hal felt as if he had been hit by a sledgehammer, his face contorted, and his body flew backward uncontrollably.

But his consciousness remained clear; he extended his hand, shooting out a green light that transformed into a spring Grid to catch himself.

The elasticity of the Grid flung him back towards Sinestro.

"You, you just won't admit defeat, will you?"

Hal glared at him stubbornly, and Sinestro's Green Lantern ring manifested a rope as thick as a fist, binding him.

He pressed his lantern ring against Hal's temple; Sinestro was the most ruthless interrogator in the Green Lantern Corps.

Using illusions created by the lantern ring, he inflicted immense pain on Hal's mind.

"It's a pity, Hal."

"You could have stood by my side and changed this Universe with me!"

At this moment, Hal, in extreme mental anguish, suddenly felt all his surrounding senses drift away, and Sinestro's chattering mouth gradually blurred.

He closed his eyes, and when he opened them again, he found himself in a completely White hall.

In the middle of this hall, there was a sofa, and Dane was sitting on it.

He had an ancient parchment book in his hand, reading it intently.

"Mr. Davis..."

As if just hearing his voice, Dane returned from the World of the book to the Real World.

He smiled, looking at Hal's disheveled appearance.

"It seems you haven't been doing well lately?"

Hal slumped his shoulders: "You can't imagine how bad."

Dane waved his hand, and an armchair appeared opposite him; he gestured with his hand.

"Sit."

Hal sat down as instructed, then asked impatiently.

"Where is this place?"

Dane explained:

"This is a World formed by the mind; when you encounter extreme danger, it will temporarily pull your mind into this World, giving you a moment to breathe and think about what to do next."

"Did you do this?" Hal hesitated for a moment, then asked, "When?"

"The first time we shook hands, I set up this magic."

Dane stated bluntly: "Hal, you are a novice after all, so you should understand my actions."

Hal's expression merely fell upon hearing this, "I failed; I'm no match for him."

"Who is the opponent?" Dane's expression was calm.

"It's Sinestro, a veteran... lantern ring user." He was unwilling to call him a Green Lantern.

"Is his willpower stronger than yours?"

Hal grudgingly admitted: "Yes."

"Why?"

"What?"

"Hal, why are you fighting him?"

"Because he... did wrong."

"Wrongdoing? Did he commit a crime?"

"Yes."

"What kind of crime? Or rather, how great a crime?"

"It's a crime so heinous that it's considered utterly evil throughout the Universe!"

Dane closed the book, smiled at Hal, and asked him another question.

"Then why did you still lose?"

Hal didn't answer this time; he fell into contemplation.

Dane continued: "You say he is wrong, and you say he is evil, so why isn't your will as strong as his?"

"Is the power of evil stronger?"

"Hal, are your justice and belief such fragile things?"

"No, they are not!" he retorted.

"Is it that you actually agree with some of his methods? That's why you always hold back when you act; your will isn't pure."

"No! That's not it!" he roared.

"Then tell me, why did you lose?" Dane's tone remained calm, yet his words pierced his heart like daggers.

"Is it combat experience? Or life experience? Or is it emotional interference that subconsciously prevented you from exerting your full power?"

"In battles between green lanterns, other things are secondary; the most important is the clash of willpower!"

"Hal, your willpower lost to your opponent, which shouldn't happen." "Why did you put on the lantern ring in the first place? Have you forgotten everything in just one week?"

"Remember, Hal, what is the green lantern oath?"

In the Real World, although somewhat regretful, since Hal could not be used by him, Sinestro prepared to deliver his final blow.

However, Hal, in an unconscious state, murmured:

"In brightest day, in blackest night."

"What?" Sinestro raised an eyebrow.

"No evil shall escape my sight."

"You think that will work?"

"Let those who worship evil's might."

A strong green divine light illuminated Hal's body, and Sinestro felt a bad premonition, immediately taking action!

"Beware my power, green lantern's light!"

The will energy from Hal's body was as dazzling as the Sun, instantly breaking through Sinestro's blockade, and blasting him away with the green light energy!

"This is impossible!" Sinestro roared.

Such intense will energy, he had never seen before!
