Chapter 9 - Chapter 8

Derek's POV

Seeing Trenton with his hands all over Viola should have made me even more crazed but something kept me from coming unglued on the guy. There was some weird connection between Trenton and I. Clearly having multiple mates is going to be an issue when I wanted Viola to myself, but I couldn't deny there was an odd urge to be ok with Trenton, like he was part of my pack and I had only just met the guy.

I think he felt the same way because other than him choking me momentarily he hadn't tried laying another hand on me. He even made it a point to show he would be speaking to me about further plans for helping Viola. I needed more information on this mate thing. As far as I knew when someone finds their mate they don't want to be around anyone else, and they definitely don't want anyone around their mate like that.

But even the small possessive act I had of pulling her to me almost felt weird. Like she needed to be shared with Trenton.

Literally fated to be with two. What the hell?

Viola and I got to the clothes line the pack had up for those turning and got dressed.

"Derek I'm sorry." She blurted after getting a shirt on.

I gave her a smile. "For what?"

"Trenton and his hands all over me like that." She furrowed her brows, I could see how confused she was.

I put my hands on her hips after my jeans were buttoned. "It's fine Viola, you have two mates, I don't think you are supposed to choose between the two of us." I sighed. "Do I like it? Not so much. But can I tolerate it? Surprisingly yeah, I can." I put a finger over her lips before she could speak. "It felt almost natural to have to share you Viola, I can't explain it, and Goddess knows I would rather not, but he is part of this. And the more protection for you, the better."

She bit her lip and damn if I didn't want to take her right then. "I feel so confused Derek." She pouted poking her lip out in the most sexy way. I kissed her and brought her flush against me as I did. Her arms wrapped around my neck as I lifted her up wrapping her legs around me.

When she moaned softly my arousal only grew. I broke the kiss much to Duban's frustration and my own, then set her back on the ground.

"It's ok baby, we'll figure this out. Besides, I think you're just barely coming into whatever you can do, you shouldn't worry about this. You'll be stronger than us all Viola." I kissed her cheek and grabbed her hand taking her back inside the gates to find Alpha Drake waiting just inside for us.

"Alpha." I said surprised.

"We need to talk." He looked at us both. "All of us." He walked away swiftly without looking back knowing we would follow him. Upon entering the pack house Dalia was leaving the kitchen. She looked at us and quickly went upstairs.

"Dad?" Viola put her hand on his arm. "What's wrong?"

"I believe that whoever was involved with what happened to you is in the pack. I'm not sure how safe you are, and I can't figure out who it was either. I have suspicions of some pack members."

I kept quiet knowing he wasn't ready to hear of Dalia, he probably wouldn't even believe us. We needed proof before we confronted him about her.

Viola sucked in a breath like she might say something and I put my hand on her wrist.

"Alpha Drake, if it helps I would be willing to do some digging as well."

He nodded at me with a brief smile. "There's something else." His smile fell. "I'm sure you noticed the lack of Dalia's presence for this. She wanted me to be the one to tell you." He took a deep breath while I held mine. "The reason you cannot scent her as family like you can me is because she is not your birth mother."

If Viola gave any indication that she knew she didn't show it to her father. He kept going.

"Your mother, your birth mother, left while you were very young. I heard years later that she had been killed after rejecting Shadow Pack and me as her mate." He let out a sigh. "I was a mess when Dalia came around after your third birthday, she helped me get through the loss. Please understand Viola, a pack rejection is hard, a mate rejection…" he physically shuddered as he recalled the loss. "We kept it from you because you were so young at the time, and then when your wolf never surfaced and you couldn't smell her scent we just let it be." His eyes pleaded for her understanding.

Viola sighed deeply. "I forgive you." Alpha Drake wrapped her in a hug as if he was holding on for dear life. I hadn't ever seen the Alpha so nervous before. This side of him was only ever seen around Viola, not that he was a difficult man, he was just intense and typically ensured that things went his way.

He let go and led us to sit down in the living area. "There are a few other things we need to discuss. Please sit." The alpha leaned back into his chair and draped his arm over the side of it. "First, you'll notice your wolf is much bigger. Your mother, your birth mother, she was a hybrid. I don't exactly know what she was, and looking into her past is dangerous Viola. She had her reasons for leaving. After I have grown the pack and learn about some other details we will of course look into this more."

"We can't even find out what I am right now?" Viola was tense as she gripped the cushion on the couch she had sat down on.

"Viola it's dangerous. Particularly since we know you were bound and poisoned at some point, the circumstances of which are still unclear."

Viola nodded her head for him to continue.

"What I can tell you is that despite not knowing your separate breed, I do know that you are a hunter. Hunter's are typically much bigger and their senses are much more inclined to, well, hunt. Particularly since you are an alpha's daughter, this would in fact affect you a lot more."
