Chapter 51 - Heir.

Today was quite a special day, because today's the day we vote and choose who is to be the heir and ruler of Hell.

We've been preparing them for years, and tonight they shall prove themselves, and prove to the other Sins that they are more than ready for this responsibility.

For the past 50 years, I have personally watched and molded my son to become the perfect king. Though I wished I had more time to prepare him, I've delayed this for far too long.

Charlie, on the other hand, has been slacking in her classes. She focused more on school and the demons of Hell rather than improving her own capabilities. She would often try to sneak out with her father to do pointless activities, but I know she just wants to spend time with him.

As much as it pains me to do so, they must be ready for anything. The Sins will be the ones to vote and decide who they want to follow, and our approval will cement that.

The Goetia shall be the audience, making sure no foul play is involved. As much as I don't trust them since the incident, they are still integral to this endeavor.

Getting myself ready, I walked out of our room and down the castle's long hallways. It was quiet; the servants were all busy preparing for the occasion and had left all nonessential duties for this event.

As I walked, I finally reached my destination — the throne room. It was packed with every important demon needed, and sitting upon his throne was my adorable husband. He was putting up a façade that would have quickly crumbled if not for the importance of this event.

Sitting beside him upon a throne of my own, every demon besides the Sins bowed before us. I gave a small wave, and the demons bowing all sat up and returned to their seats.

Lucy got up from his throne and began addressing everyone.

"Demons of Hell, tonight we shall begin the process of choosing an heir. You are all here to witness as we choose who shall be your future king or queen," he said proudly before snapping his fingers and creating two portals for both our children to step through.

The first was Charlie. She wore a beautiful red and white dress; it was a rather simple design, but what made it complete was my beautiful daughter herself.

She walked over to us and gave us a curtsy bow. She looked up towards us and spoke.

The next was our son. As he walked out of the portal, a bright light illuminated the room — a brilliant white light that shined like the sun.

He wore bright white armor that covered his chest area and a white cape. He had his sigil across his chest and his blade in hand.

He moved next to Charlie and gave a bow, like the knight he was trained to be.

As both my children stood in front of me, I was shocked at how much they'd grown. Oh, how the years pass in seconds — one moment they're children, the next they're off to somewhere else.

I felt a single tear almost escape, but I quickly composed myself and stood up.

"Tonight, the heir shall be decided," I said, standing up and summoning an apple and a pale white stone.

Sending the items toward the Sins, they immediately knew what to do.

"The Sins will decide who they will follow and who they believe should be the next heir. If they cannot make a unanimous decision, my vote and Lucy's shall be the deciding factor," I said, sitting back down on my throne.

The Sins began to talk amongst themselves, and not long after, they cast their votes.

Getting up from their seats, they all stood in front of my children for a moment before all walking over to Stygian.

To say I was shocked was an understatement — to think the Sins would all choose my son.

I was happy that it went smoothly, but I was also quite sad for Charlie. She must have felt devastated.

Looking at my daughter, she looked… relieved. Like a weight on her shoulders had been removed.

I took a deep breath and leaned back on my throne before finally relaxing.

Maybe this was the right choice. Charlie wasn't the best fit to be a leader, and with her brother making sure Heaven stays in line, maybe — just maybe — things might work out.
