Iris:
Luca stood up from the couch and stepped toward us.
"Let her take a breath first," Luca told my mother, who rolled her eyes at him.
"Where is it?" she demanded again.
"It's in the closet," I replied.
She rushed past me while I looked at Luca, sadness filling my eyes.
"It's okay," he said, giving me a reassuring look.
"No, it's not," I replied. "Mom is going to give my brother the cure now. Then we'll have to wait at least a day to see if it's working, or if one dose is even enough."
I reminded Luca that even though my mother kept saying the cure would work, we did not truly know. Until it was confirmed, we could not leave.
My mother wanted to leave the moment we got the cure, but Kash made sure that would not happen. He had given it just one day before his wedding. We could not run away unless we were certain the cure worked. If it didn't, I knew my mother would stay and force me to get another one.
