This thing chose the perfect moment to strike—right after the "Bully Spider-Man" had discovered the truth about Uncle Ben's killer.At his most unstable, his darkest hour, the symbiote appeared and fused with him, turning him into that arrogant version of Spider-Man who'd toss sand into people's eyes just for the thrill of it.
At first, Peter was confused by the alien suit's eerie, almost sinister appearance.But the power it offered… was intoxicating.He accepted it.
Soon, the symbiote began to influence him—making him proud, violent, cruel, and vengeful.
When Peter realized the change in himself, he tried to resist.He locked the symbiote away in a closet, determined to keep it contained.
But after Harry Osborn blackmailed Mary Jane into breaking up with him—and even taunted Peter by implying she'd been with him—Peter's rage boiled over.He re-bonded with the symbiote and, in the ensuing battle, scarred Harry's face.
From then on, Spider-Man grew increasingly selfish, arrogant, and reckless.
He even flirted with Eddie Brock's girlfriend, Gwen Stacy, and took her to the bar where Mary Jane worked—just to humiliate her.
When a scuffle broke out with a bouncer and Peter, in a moment of blind anger, struck Mary Jane, he was horrified by what he'd become.
Driven by guilt, he went to a nearby church.After a desperate struggle, he finally managed to tear off the symbiote, the bell's vibrations helping him break free.
But now… it was back—as an enemy.
Why?Was it simply because Spider-Man had rejected it?
Crash!
The black symbiote's head rippled like liquid, receding to reveal the face beneath.
Seeing that face, Peter instantly understood.
Eddie Brock.
A complete loser.
He'd tried to steal Peter's job as Spider-Man's official photographer—but of course, Spider-Man hadn't cooperated. (How could Peter help the guy trying to take his livelihood?)
After failing repeatedly to get good shots, Eddie resorted to deceit—colorizing old photos and forging a fake story about a "Black Spider-Man gone bad."
It didn't last long.The real Spider-Man exposed the truth himself.
Eddie was fired from the Daily Bugle and blacklisted from the industry entirely.
Frankly, he got off easy.
Faking news was a mortal sin in journalism. Framing others could destroy lives.If Spider-Man hadn't had the means to defend himself, Eddie's lies might've ruined him forever.
Losing his job was the least of what he deserved.
Peter never imagined that the discarded black suit would eventually merge with Eddie.
"Parker!" Eddie snarled, his voice twisted with hate. "Do you remember what you did to me? The humiliation you caused? I'll pay you back for every bit of it—double!"
Peter stared at him, incredulous.Seriously?
Eddie had framed him with fake photos—and he was the one angry about being exposed?
Peter could only think of two words for him:
Total idiot.
"Wow, wow, what's this?" Peter mocked. "A support group for the rejected and the unemployed?"
The taunt hit home.Both Eddie and the symbiote seethed with fury.
"Raaagh!" Eddie roared, lunging forward. "Parker—die!"
Peter reacted instantly—jumping straight up, clasping both fists together, and slamming them down.
Boom!
His joined fists crashed into Eddie's back, sending him hurtling from the air into the ground below.
A solid hit—but Peter didn't celebrate. His face grew serious.
Something was wrong.
When Eddie attacked him just now… his Spider-Sense hadn't reacted at all.
That had never happened before.
For the first time, he'd met an enemy completely invisible to his danger sense.
And the symbiote's attacks—those webs, the patterns, even its movements—they all mirrored Spider-Man's.
A chilling realization dawned on Peter.
Because the symbiote had once bonded with him, it had copied his powers.
It could mimic its host's abilities.
Peter's heart tightened. This creature was far more dangerous than he'd imagined.
Even as his mind raced through possibilities, his body moved on instinct.He could think and fight simultaneously now—a skill long honed through experience.
Spotting an opening, Peter leapt onto a nearby taxi, stretched out his arm, and yanked Mary Jane from the driver's seat.
"Hold on to me," he said quietly, though every muscle in his body was tense.
Heaven help him—aside from Aunt May, he'd barely ever been this close to a girl before.He only managed to say it because the real Peter and MJ were already close.
And at this moment, there was simply no other option.
Mary Jane, sensing the danger but trusting him completely, wrapped her arms around him.His warmth, his strength—those were her only comfort amid the chaos.
Feeling the softness pressed against his arm, Peter flushed red with embarrassment.
He quickly turned his attention back to the fight below and leapt to another rooftop, carrying her through the air.
They landed safely on the building where he'd stood earlier.
"Y-you'd better get downstairs," Peter stammered.
"Okay," MJ smiled, looping one arm around his shoulder and lifting his mask just enough to kiss the corner of his mouth. "Good luck, my tiger."
Peter froze.
Flustered, he gently pushed her away. "Uh, I—I've got to go—they're coming—I mean—uh—"
Mary Jane blinked, confused, watching as Peter vaulted back into the fray.
Whoosh!
A storm of sand roared toward him.
Peter flung out both hands, shooting webbing in a wide net.
Like the black-suit Spider-Man before him, he now produced his own webbing organically—a mutation he had since embraced.
The massive web took shape in an instant, wrapping around the swirling sand.
With a powerful spin, Peter swung the entire web bundle sideways—and slammed the trapped Sandman hard against a nearby building.
