Peter hadn't given up on using his web-shooters.
Even though he could now produce webs naturally, the webbing was made of protein — meaning it consumed his own energy to create. Roughly how much, he still needed to study.
In any case, it was obvious that the webs he produced weren't infinite or cost-free.
Whether it was biological energy or magical energy, it had to come from somewhere.
And even if his stamina was great, conserving energy was still better.
Otherwise, he'd end up like the Flash in DC Comics — constantly munching on hot dogs just to recharge. How embarrassing would that be?
There was also another reason.
He wanted to keep something in reserve.
When Iron Man had secretly installed a tracker in the Spider-Man suit he'd given him, Peter realized a painful truth — others would always be "others." He had to rely on himself.
Since everyone already thought of him as using mechanical web-shooters, he might as well let them keep thinking that way.
His ability to produce organic webs would stay his hidden trump card.
Just imagine — if an enemy who had studied him carefully managed to destroy his web-shooters and thought Peter had lost his means of attack… only for him to suddenly shoot webs from his own wrists—That surprise alone could turn the tide of battle!
Two hours later, Peter met up with Ned.
That guy actually brought along Peter's LEGO Death Star set.
But Peter didn't mind. After that intense cross-universe battle he'd just gone through, building models with Ned was exactly the kind of peaceful fun he needed.
For the first time in a while, he felt like a normal teenager again.
The two of them laughed and joked as they worked, and before they knew it, two hours had passed.
Thanks to the combined IQ of two certified geniuses, the massive 3,803-piece set was completed in record time.
And that was even with Peter holding back his strength, afraid he'd crush the tiny pieces if he wasn't careful.
"Aw yeah! Can you believe we finished it this fast?!" Ned shouted, jumping up in excitement. "Coming here was definitely the right choice. If I built this alone, it would've taken me days!"
Peter grinned smugly. "Well, what can I say? I am a genius."
"Of course," Ned said seriously. "Peter Parker, Midtown High's resident prodigy."
That actually made Peter pause — he hadn't expected Ned to agree so earnestly.
"Wanna grab some food? I'm starving," Ned said, patting his stomach — one glance at him and it was obvious the guy loved to eat.
Peter pointed toward the kitchen. "Let's just eat here. Aunt May left me plenty of stuff in the fridge."
"Fine by me. Though I can only cook simple stuff," Ned said.
"Same here," Peter laughed.
Both of them chuckled as they started rummaging through the fridge, throwing together a simple but edible dinner.
That was when Aunt May suddenly burst into the house, looking anxious.
Seeing Peter and Ned in the kitchen, whistling and cheerfully cooking together, she froze.
"Uh, Aunt May, what are you doing back so early?" Peter turned, pretending to be surprised.
Of course, he already knew someone had come in — he'd heard the key turn in the lock and recognized her familiar presence.
But he really was a little surprised. She'd said she wouldn't be home at all on Monday.
Peter's voice startled Ned, who was flipping an egg at that moment.
The sudden scare almost made him drop it, but Peter reacted instantly, steadying the pan so the egg landed safely back in place.
"H-Hi there, Aunt May!" Ned greeted awkwardly.
"Hello, Ned. Welcome," Aunt May said kindly, then turned to Peter. With a concerned expression, she touched his forehead and then her own. "Hmm… no fever?" she murmured.
Peter blinked. "...Huh?"
And then it hit him — she must've come home because he'd lied about being sick!
Guilt crept up his chest.
He had taken the day off to act as Spider-Man in the Earth-1610B universe… but that lie had made his aunt worry enough to rush home, abandoning whatever important thing she was doing.
That wasn't fair to her at all.
While Peter silently blamed himself, Aunt May was also quietly blaming herself.
She thought she shouldn't have gone to those "adventure-themed" charity events so often — even though they were exciting, fun, and raised money for the shelter.
Because while she was off doing those things, her nephew was home alone — eating instant food, growing up too fast, and sending her mature, comforting messages telling her not to worry.
That wasn't what a 15-year-old boy's life should look like.
He deserved to be happier — carefree, like a normal kid.
And so, the two of them fell into a strangely heartwarming misunderstanding.
From then on, Peter's life seemed to return to normal.
The glowing web-pattern in his mind — which recorded the coordinates of other parallel universes — remained dim. None of the nodes were active.
That meant he could finally rest from the chaos of the multiverse and enjoy some peace in his own world.
Compared to the constant crises and supervillains of other dimensions, his Earth did seem much calmer on the surface.
Probably thanks to the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. handling things up front.
Well… as long as he didn't cross the river to Hell's Kitchen, anyway.
That area was Daredevil and the Punisher's turf — and Peter had no plans to bother them unless he had to.
During this quiet stretch, only two things stood out.
First, one of his classmates, Liz Allan, transferred schools.
A shame — Peter had actually liked her.
He didn't know why she left, but since she'd been captain of the school's Decathlon team, her departure meant that somehow… Flash Thompson had become captain instead.
No one knew how that loudmouthed idiot, who'd barely been a backup, got the promotion.
Mr. Harrington, their coach, had talked to Peter about taking the role — but Peter turned it down, saying he was too busy with the Stark Internship.
Wait… could that be why Flash got it?
