Chapter 77 - Tracker

Peter lay quietly on the ceiling, closing his eyes and using his mind to feel every muscle in his body, bit by bit.

He slowly got used to the changes in his body.

"Whew—"

About half an hour later, Peter cautiously landed on the ground.

He had basically adapted to his current body, which was faster, stronger, and had a more developed Spider-Sense.

However, he was still a little cautious, afraid of breaking something with too much force.

Although he now had the ability to earn money, he would definitely be scolded by Aunt May if he messed up the house for no reason.

He still remembered Aunt May's angry look over a month ago!

However, what surprised him most, aside from the changes in his physical strength, was a new ability.

Whoosh—

Peter reached out and aimed at the ceiling. A strand of Webbing shot out from his hand.

But he wasn't wearing Web-Shooters!

This Webbing, it was shooting directly from his hand!

Yet, there weren't any new glands or organs in his body that could produce Webbing solution.

Perhaps it was a kind of magical power?

Could this be the ability he gained from Spider-Man (Shadow)?

After all, the other two Spider-Men used Web-Shooters, and only Spider-Man (Shadow), with his more magical abilities, produced Webbing naturally.

Peter gave himself a somewhat reasonable explanation.

Buzzing—

The phone in his suit suddenly vibrated.

Peter cautiously pulled out his phone and carefully turned on the screen, discovering a flurry of messages.

[Ned: Why did you take a day off today? Are you sick? Should I come see you after school?]

[Ned: And maybe bring my Lego Death Star? We can build it together, SOS.jpg, SOS.jpg]

[Ned: Are you busy with the Stark internship, so you can't reply? Should I still come to your place this afternoon?]

[Ned: Thinking about it, I'll go. I can wait for you at your place, just come back quickly when you're done with the Stark internship.]

[Ned:]

Peter: ...

Ned had sent him over a dozen messages, almost one every half hour.

"Anyone would think they were a couple in love!"

Peter thought for a moment, then carefully typed on the screen: "I am indeed sick and resting at home. Just woke up. If you want to come over, come on over. I'll be waiting for you."

Next, Peter looked at the second message, from his teacher, Mr. Harrington.

[Mr. Harrington: Peter, are you feeling better? Hope you recover soon. We're about to participate in the National Decathlon Competition, don't miss it.]

Peter replied: "Okay, I understand. Thank you for your concern, Mr. Harrington."

The third message was from Aunt May, mostly reminding him to eat on time and to wear more clothes now that it was getting cold.

It was all the usual stuff.

Peter had originally wanted to just reply with a simple "Okay" and be done with it, but after typing the word, he hesitated.

He thought of Spider-Man B's repeated warnings.

"Don't ignore the people who care about you."

"When you're Spider-Man, don't forget to be yourself."

Thinking this, Peter picked up his phone, carefully considering his words, and honestly composed a long text message to send.

This was a first for him, ever.

He didn't know what Aunt May would think when she saw it, but after sending it, Peter felt quite relaxed.

The fourth person was Happy, Iron Man's driver and bodyguard.

But he was mainly asking about Peter's recent situation, seemingly doing it as a matter of routine. But Peter always felt there was something off about it.

It was as if... he knew Peter had been staying home a lot lately.

Peter frowned.

The fifth was Tony Stark.

And Tony Stark was even more direct. He asked Peter if anything had been going on lately, since he'd been staying home all day.

Peter immediately felt that something was wrong.

This situation... he was being tracked twenty-four hours a day!

Someone was watching him in secret?

No, it shouldn't be.

If it were someone, he would definitely be able to sense it. His Spider-Sense was very sensitive to observations specifically targeting him.

Then... a tracker?

On his person?

Or... in that suit?!!

Peter admitted that he might be being too sensitive, and perhaps Iron Man was just concerned about him.

But now that he'd thought this far, he felt uneasy if he didn't check carefully.

Today, even just for peace of mind, he had to check thoroughly!

Peter took out the Spider-Suit Iron Man had given him and turned it over.

The inside of the suit was a complex network of circuits made of conductive fibers.

Peter frowned, rummaging through them. His eyes brightened for a moment, then his brow furrowed again.

"It's a tracker!"

Peter picked up a pair of tweezers and carefully peeled the tracker from the suit. Watching the little device still emitting signals, a wave of cold washed over him.

He was really being tracked.

And by none other than Tony Stark, a superhero he deeply admired!

He found it hard to accept.

After a long while.

"Whew—" Peter exhaled slowly, calming himself.

He was starting to understand things a little better.

Logically, what Tony Stark had done was the right thing. After all, Peter was just a 15-year-old kid who had only recently gained superpowers.

To prevent him from causing trouble, installing a tracker to locate him was understandable.

But from Peter's personal perspective, he couldn't accept it.

The thought of his daily activities being monitored made Peter feel uneasy.

Especially since he now possessed the glowing webbing in his mind, he would likely often venture to different Spider-Man worlds to have adventures.

And when he went, his body on this side would be in a sleeping state.

Once or twice was fine, but if it happened too many times, he'd definitely be discovered!

Peter wasn't ready to share his secret with anyone yet.

Even in Earth-1610B, when he spoke with Spider-Man B and the others, he only vaguely mentioned that his abilities were slightly different from theirs, without going into specifics.

Peter held the Tracker between his fingers and squeezed, crushing it.

He didn't plan to use it as evidence to question Tony Stark about why he was being tracked.

That wouldn't accomplish anything.

The Tracker was actually quite obvious, directly attached to the inside of the Spider-Suit, clearly added later.

If they wanted to be discreet, they could have easily placed it in the middle layers of the suit, or even directly within the circuitry.

This showed that they weren't worried about Peter finding it.

Even if Peter went to question them, they could always say it was to protect him.

"In the end, I can only rely on myself!" Peter flipped his Spider-Suit inside out and stuffed it back into his backpack.
