Chapter 56 - 56

Chapter 56: The Unspoken Understanding Between Men

Sherlock spotted Thor standing among the ministers almost immediately, and the reason was simple: Thor stood among those who looked like ministers like a husky among wolves.

Not to mention, among a group of serious-faced people, only Thor had an extremely rich expression, a look of utter shock.

Sherlock even suspected that if this were a Disney-style anime scene, Thor's jaw would already be dragging on the ground.

Of course, as Thor's relatively close friend, Sherlock still deciphered Thor's meaning from his shocked expression.

'Why the hell are you here?'

Facing Thor's question, Sherlock just rolled his eyes impatiently, his gaze directed at Ancient One beside him, his meaning very clear.

'Guess why I'm here.'

Having hung out with Sherlock for so long, Thor naturally understood Sherlock's thoughts very well. Thor instantly grasped Sherlock's hint, and the next second, Thor's expression was like that of an old man on the subway.

'You're actually a sorcerer? And you didn't tell me! I'm your friend!'

Watching Thor's expression change from an old man on the subway to a pitiful strong man, Sherlock almost got goosebumps all over. He even ignored the conversation between Ancient One and Odin, focusing entirely on telegraphing with Thor.

'You didn't ask, so what could I do? Besides, you know that sorcerers in Midgard hardly ever show themselves.'

Looking at the message Sherlock was conveying to him with winks and blinks, Thor paused, but the next second his expression became even more aggrieved. He stared intently at Sherlock, who was standing beside Ancient One.

'Damn it, you're not cool! When Loki hit me, you, a sorcerer, didn't even come out to help!'

Sherlock, having deciphered Thor's meaning, rolled his eyes so hard they almost went to heaven, his meaning very obvious.

'First, I wasn't there. Second, that's your family matter; why should an outsider like me interfere? Lastly, I haven't even asked you to compensate me for my beloved car yet!'

Thor, understanding Sherlock's meaning, clearly paused again, then actually looked a bit embarrassed, seemingly apologizing for damaging Sherlock's car again.

Seeing Thor's simple-minded expression, Sherlock felt that this guy was definitely beyond saving. He impatiently covered his face, indicating that it was fine and someone else had compensated him.

After understanding Sherlock's meaning, Thor visibly brightened up.

Among a group of serious-faced ministers, Thor's behavior became even more like a husky, happily looking at Sherlock, who was standing beside Ancient One, and continuing to wink and blink to send him messages.

'Alright, since you're here, after we finish the serious business, I'll treat you to a drink! You must try Asgardian wine; it will definitely make you never want to leave!'

In response to Thor's invitation, Sherlock gave Thor an annoyed expression, his meaning very clear.

'We'll see, there's still important business to attend to.'

After conveying his meaning, Sherlock intended to listen to what Ancient One and Odin had been discussing, but clearly, Thor had no intention of giving up this hard-won opportunity and planned to continue communicating with Sherlock.

Sherlock, standing behind Ancient One and facing the people of Asgard, naturally couldn't ignore Thor, who kept winking at him. Helplessly, Sherlock could only give Thor a questioning look.

Seeing that Sherlock was finally back online, Thor visibly became excited again and continued to wink and blink, sending Sherlock more messages.

'How is Jane? Quickly tell me, how is Jane doing? I miss her so much!'

Sherlock, who had just come online, was immediately fed a huge mouthful of dog food by Thor without a word. He rolled his eyes impatiently and cursed inwardly, 'Damn lovebirds!'

Only then did he start winking and blinking to send signals to Thor.

'Don't worry, she's doing great. She's currently figuring out how to see you again.'

Upon seeing the message Sherlock conveyed, Thor's face visibly turned red, seemingly a bit shy, which made Sherlock feel another wave of disgust.

Can you imagine a shy Xu Jinjiang, over 1.8 meters tall and 200 pounds, with arms that could host a horse race?

Thor's shyness came and went quickly. Soon, Thor seemed to remember something and looked at Sherlock with anticipation, continuing to send messages.

'Oh, right, how did you get here? I remember the Bifrost Bridge is broken!'

In response to Thor's question, Sherlock impatiently and discreetly made a circle with his hand, his meaning very clear.

'Kamar-Taj's exclusive spell, the Sling Ring!'

Seeing Sherlock's gesture, Thor's eyes lit up. He stared intently at Sherlock's slightly moving hand, his whole being filled with hope.

'Sling Ring? Can it go back to Midgard? I want to see Jane! You know, after the Bifrost Bridge broke, I couldn't go to Midgard to see Jane! My father and mother also oppose me leaving Asgard at this time!'

Looking at Thor, who was shining with hope like a puppy, Sherlock suddenly felt terrible. Perhaps out of a single dog's anger, Sherlock pretended to think for a moment, then slightly shook his head at Thor.

'Not likely. Sorcerer Ancient One can create such long-distance Sling Rings. My skill isn't enough; I can't open such a Sling Ring at all.'

Sherlock, outwardly regretful, was secretly overjoyed. His anti-romance alliance with Daisy Louis had finally taken a historic step.

Seeing that Sherlock seemed to have rejected him, Thor visibly became crestfallen, completely oblivious to the cunning look in Sherlock's eyes.

After being dejected for a while, Thor seemed to have no intention of giving up. In just a short time, he regrouped and looked at Sherlock eagerly. Sherlock naturally noticed Thor's change and was waiting for Thor to continue sending messages.

But for some reason, the previously excited Thor suddenly became serious in an instant. His entire demeanor quickly became expressionless, looking extremely proper, as if the person who had been winking and blinking at Sherlock just now wasn't him.

Sherlock was filled with doubt about Thor's change, completely unaware of what had happened, only instinctively feeling that something was amiss.

The next second, Sherlock's uneasy feeling became reality as Ancient One's voice sounded beside Sherlock's ear.

"So, are you done chatting with Thor, Son of King Odin?"

In an instant, Sherlock got goosebumps all over, just like getting caught passing notes by a teacher in elementary school. He turned around awkwardly, looking at his surroundings.

This glance was significant; Sherlock felt he was practically on the verge of social death. The entire hall, not just Ancient One, but also King Odin, Queen Frigga, and the ministers, all had their eyes on him and Thor.

Everyone's expression was one of watching a good show.
