Selene fared no better. Her sister Lilith finally spoke before the council.
"She slips into wolf territory," Lilith hissed. "She smells of their Alpha. She has betrayed us."
Gasps rippled through the coven. Selene stood in the circle of judgment, her heart pounding.
"Do you deny it?" Morwen's voice was cold as stone.
Selene's lips trembled. She thought of Kael's amber eyes, of his touch, of his vow to fight for them. "I deny nothing," she said boldly.
The coven erupted in fury. Lilith smirked in triumph.
"Then you are no daughter of Bloodveil," Morwen declared. "Until you renounce him, you are cast out."
Chains of shame fell heavy around Selene's heart. But though the coven had exiled her, she felt strangely lighter.
For the first time, she was free.
