"Cacturne, use Ingrain here and see if there are traces of any Grass-type Pokémon."
In the middle of a dense meadow, Cacturne used Ingrain, spreading its roots in all directions to sense the energy waves around it.
Soon, Cacturne made a discovery, retracted its roots, and guided the two toward the direction where it had sensed a presence.
As they approached, they saw several Oddish figures; it wasn't the Bulbasaur they were looking for.
"They're Oddish. This type of Pokémon is definitely one of the most common in breeding areas."
Both sighed softly and, with Cacturne's help, continued exploring deeper into the Forest Zone.
"Huh? What's that smell? How awful!"
After walking a bit further, a terrible stench suddenly hit them.
"That smell... it's probably a Gloom."
"And, being so strong, this Gloom likely has the Stench ability."
Ethan Black's eyes glimmered with a spark; he hadn't expected to encounter a Gloom here with that hidden ability.
It should be noted that Stench is a hidden ability in Gloom, and finding one like that was no easy task.
Moreover, a Gloom with Stench could evolve with a Leaf Stone into a Vileplume with the Effect Spore ability, or with a Sun Stone into a Bellossom with the Healer ability; it was, without a doubt, a very valuable Grass-type Pokémon.
"According to research, the stronger the smell a Gloom emits, the greater its potential. If we don't find a Bulbasaur, this Gloom could be an interesting option," Ethan Black suggested thoughtfully to Jasper Reid.
Of course, if Jasper Reid managed to find a Bulbasaur, they could still consider catching that Gloom, since he had a Sun Stone. If that Stench Gloom evolved into a Bellossom with Healer, it would be an excellent healing support Pokémon.
"Understood."
Jasper Reid nodded with a serious expression, casting one last glance toward where the Gloom was hiding before both continued deeper into the Breeding Zone.
The Greenrock Mountain Breeding Zone was home to an enormous number of Pokémon. Along the way, they saw countless different species.
Most were from the Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh regions, although there were some from other places as well.
However, they were all fairly common species; they had yet to see any wild starters or anything particularly rare.
"This is a headache."
"In such a large breeding area, how are we supposed to find a Bulbasaur?"
Jasper Reid sighed. According to Bulbasaur habitats, they could live in meadows, forests, or wetlands, so finding one wouldn't be easy.
"Little by little. If we don't find it today, we'll try tomorrow. Eventually, it will appear."
Ethan Black took a nutritious juice from his space backpack, took a sip, and exhaled in relaxation.
"There's no other choice."
After a short break, Ethan Black and Jasper Reid continued exploring with their Pokémon.
Soon, they passed through the meadow and entered a forest.
Perhaps because it was a natural development area where even the rangers seldom ventured, the forest was full of undergrowth and shrubs, which slowed their progress.
"Pidgey pidgey pidgey!"
As they passed near a large tree, they startled some Pidgey resting on its branches, causing a rustling sound that spread throughout the forest.
"They're Pidgey."
"Their evolved form, Pidgeot, is the signature bird of the Pokémon Hunters' Guild; riding them is really impressive," Jasper Reid clicked his tongue, eyes shining.
He didn't yet have any Flying-type Pokémon in his team, so catching a Pidgey as an aerial mount would be a great idea.
However, there was no rush; they were still intermediate-level trainers, and the university prioritized battle in classes and evaluations, so the priority was to strengthen their current Pokémon.
After scaring a few Pidgey away, they continued forward. But as they went deeper, they noticed that the presence of wild Pokémon decreased.
After half a day of exploring, they had barely seen any Pokémon, let alone a Bulbasaur.
"What's going on here?"
"Could there be a dominant Pokémon?"
Jasper Reid looked around suspiciously.
Rustle... rustle...
At that moment, a breeze stirred the leaves, producing a whispering sound in the forest.
"What was that?"
Both stopped, confused.
Then, a figure emerged from among the trees, running directly toward them.
Before they could react, Sandslash stepped in and spun at high speed using Rapid Spin.
Boom!
The figure collided with Sandslash and was flung away, landing in a nearby bush.
"Huh?"
"What the heck?"
Looking closer, they saw a Raticate lying on the ground.
It had yellow-brown fur, a cream-colored belly, large incisors, three rows of cream-colored whiskers on the sides of its face, and a long tail. It was a common forest Raticate.
"Is it dead?"
Jasper Reid's expression darkened as he saw it motionless.
He was about to approach to check it, but Ethan Black stopped him.
"Don't go near yet. This Raticate was already injured before... it was probably fleeing from a predator."
Hearing this, Jasper Reid frowned and looked toward some nearby bushes, from which a constant rustling sound came.
Under the watchful eyes of both, the bushes parted and a huge purple snake emerged, its gaze fixed on Ethan Black, Jasper Reid, and their Pokémon.
