The next morning, very early.
Ethan Black and Jasper Reid, each with a backpack on their shoulders, quickly left the intermediate campus of Ironvale City Pokémon University.
Upon reaching the plains, Jasper Reid released his already-evolved Lairon. They both mounted it and galloped toward the distant exit.
At present, the Pokémon Jasper Reid owned were: Onix, Golem, Nosepass, Lairon, Magcargo, and Corsola. All, without exception, Rock-type.
In fact, his lineup wasn't bad at all. If Magcargo and Corsola grew strong enough, they could cover weaknesses against Grass, Water, and Steel-types, and Corsola could also counter Ground-types.
However, against Fighting-type Pokémon, his team had no defense whatsoever. That's why, if a Grass/Poison-type Venusaur joined the lineup, they could cover Water, Grass, and Fighting-types, greatly strengthening the solidity of his team.
In a short time, riding on Lairon, they quickly crossed the plains, entered a dense mountain forest, and finally emerged onto flat terrain on the other side.
Upon leaving the forest, they first took a bus to the beginner campus of Ironvale City Pokémon University. Then, after several transfers, they arrived in Ironvale City and from there took a bus to Greenrock Mountain.
"Hah... Looks like I'll have to catch a Pokémon suitable for long journeys," Ethan Black commented, watching the scenery whiz by outside the window. Inside, anticipation grew.
What kind of interesting Pokémon would they encounter in Greenrock Mountain's Breeding Zone this time?
If possible, he would definitely catch a Pokémon he could ride. And among them... perhaps Arcanine would be the perfect choice.
Not just for its imposing appearance, but because, according to the Pokédex, Arcanine was considered a legendary Pokémon in the culture of the Daleron Nation—almost regarded as a national Pokémon!
After more than four hours of travel, they arrived at Greenrock Mountain in the afternoon.
Their first stop was the local Pokémon Trainers' Guild, where they declared their intention to enter the Breeding Zone.
The request was processed quickly, as the Ironvale City Pokémon Trainers' Guild had notified them in advance. However, since it was already late, they decided to spend the night at Greenrock Mountain.
During that time, they didn't remain idle. Since their main objective was to catch a Grass/Poison-type Bulbasaur, they purchased a large quantity of antidotes.
They also stocked up on other supplies and obtained a map of Greenrock Mountain's Breeding Zone to plan their strategy.
According to the map, the zone was divided into four areas: Mountain Zone, Forest Zone, Stepped Zone, and Water Zone.
Mountain Zone: inhabited mainly by Ground, Rock, and Steel-type Pokémon, along with many Fire-types.
Forest Zone: home to a large number of Grass and Bug-type Pokémon. Since their goal was to find a Bulbasaur, they would focus their efforts here.
Stepped Zone: a terraced and windy area dominated by Flying-type Pokémon.
Water Zone: made up of rivers, lakes, and waterfalls, ideal for Water-type Pokémon.
The plan was clear: search the Forest Zone first and, if they caught a Bulbasaur, then visit the Mountain Zone.
...
The next morning, accompanied by zone staff, they arrived at the entrance of Greenrock Mountain's Breeding Zone.
"Once inside, always be careful and avoid disturbing the Pokémon's lives," warned a staff member. "Although the Pokémon here are generally docile, if provoked, they may fight back."
They were given a recorder, a monitoring device. If they were in danger, the staff could detect it immediately and come to their aid.
"Remember, you must exit before nightfall. The zone is relatively safe, but the risks increase after dark."
Ethan Black and Jasper Reid nodded. They understood that, in addition to protecting them, the monitoring also ensured they wouldn't harm the Pokémon.
They put on the protective suits provided, attached the recorder, and entered the Breeding Zone.
As soon as they crossed the threshold, they released their six Pokémon to protect them. Even though the local Pokémon were friendly, going unprotected would have been an unnecessary risk.
"Jasper, let Golem and Lairon accompany you. I'll handle the defense," said Ethan Black, looking at Jasper Reid's other Pokémon: Onix, Nosepass, Magcargo, and Corsola. All were too heavy; at that pace, they'd reach the Forest Zone at night.
"Haha, understood."
Jasper Reid withdrew the slower ones and mounted Lairon alongside Ethan Black, leaving Golem rolling by his side.
Ethan Black placed Shellder and Shuckle on Lairon's back, while Sandslash and Cacturne accompanied them on foot. Meltan and Trapinch remained in their Poké Balls.
Ready to depart, they set out toward the Forest Zone.
The songs of birds and buzzing of insects could be heard even before arriving. The area was composed of meadows, forests, and wetlands.
Upon entering a meadow, they slowed Lairon to avoid disturbing the Pokémon living there.
