"Mr. Brooks is highly suspicious."
Inside The Torch school newspaper office, Chloe said to Clark while holding a cup of coffee.
"I've investigated, and it seems all the baseball coaches, including the current one, have had conflicts with Dana Brooks. Coach Chandler, the most recent one, was slapped by Dana during a conflict with her teammates, and then Coach Chandler benched her as punishment. From what I know, Mr. Brooks and Mrs. Brooks had a big argument with Coach Chandler."
"It seems they've always been unhappy with the baseball team's coaches."
Chloe told Clark the information she had gathered.
Clark had no activities this afternoon and spent most of his time in The Torch office.
After hearing Chloe's words, he put down the newspaper in his hand and asked, "So you've mentioned this to the police?"
"No."
Chloe shook her head, "You know, how can you explain such speculative and baseless things to the police? Unless we have concrete evidence, but I'm just a small reporter, not a great detective or a police officer."
"A reporter aiming for the Pulitzer Prize?" Clark smiled and held up the newspaper in his hand.
"Clark, you're always so supportive and understanding of me."
Chloe pretended to be very disappointed and said, "If Principal Morris could support me like you do, that would be great."
"Oh, by the way, there's a very important clue, Clark. I think if you're interested, the future Pulitzer Prize winner, the reporter lady currently ordered to reflect by the principal, can provide it to you for free."
"What?"
"That is, Mr. Brooks and Mrs. Brooks recently moved from Blue Valley. And their extremely strict home education for their daughter is well-known to the nearby neighbors."
"Perhaps I can help you investigate Mr. Brooks and Mrs. Brooks."
Clark felt that his Super Hearing and Super Vision were very convenient for surveillance and investigation.
"Alright, but I don't have any reporter fees or investigation fees for you."
Chloe indicated that she was broke at the moment.
"Then next time, treat me to coffee at the Talon Club."
Clark proposed a compromise.
"OK, I agree."
Chloe nodded, agreeing to Clark's suggestion, but her mood suddenly soured a bit.
"It's for Lana, isn't it?!"
She grumbled discontentedly under her breath.
"So, this is the town where Superman and Homelander live?"
Green Lantern looked at the town's streets and the sparse people walking on them, asking Diana and Kara.
"Yes, this is Smallville. In fact, this is my first time seeing it, at least at this point in time."
Kara shrugged her shoulders and said to the two of them.
"Hmm, it looks like a peaceful and serene place. If I had to choose a place to retire, I'd choose here."
Taking a deep breath, Hal said with a relaxed expression.
"You still plan to retire?"
Kara asked him with some surprise.
"Is that a strange question? Compared to being a superhero, I identify more as a Cosmic Police officer. Since I'm a police officer, there will be a time for retirement, right?"
"Hmm."
Kara thought for a moment, then nodded in agreement, but immediately realized something.
"But a Cosmic Police officer's lifespan is longer than an Earth police officer's. Even when it's time for a normal police officer to retire, you'll still be wandering the universe, won't you?!"
"Wandering is a good word choice."
Hal flashed the ring on his hand, "A Green Lantern's mission is to wander the universe, then drift for a long time. Whether or not he can shake the universe with his name, he is destined to be lonely. I'm very happy today, someone finally understands me."
Hal's glib tongue activated again, "It seems the title 'Cosmic Police' is indeed easier to understand and resonate with than 'superhero'."
"Uh…"
Kara pondered for a moment, deciding that if possible, she would try not to talk to him anymore.
The three of them passed through a farmers' market.
The bustling road was crowded with people buying things.
"Although I'm shocked that you know Superman and Homelander's true identities, if, and I mean if, we encounter Superman and Homelander, how should we confront them?"
Hal was idle for a while, then started up again.
"We are not confronting them, Green Lantern."
Diana, who had been silent, finally spoke, "Instead, we are trying to change certain things."
"But I remember Batman just told us to retrieve something, not to try and change the future."
Hal said seriously to Wonder Woman:
"Flash once warned us that if we try to change history, we will encounter the obstruction of the God of Destiny. A trivial matter, after a certain period of fermentation, coupled with related chain reactions, will lead to changes affecting everything. We must not easily overstep this law."
"I understand what you mean, Green Lantern."
Diana stopped, looking at the crowds in the bustling market.
"I don't want to change history. Instead, the particle accelerator, or rather, the God of Destiny, sent us here to do something. The future we experienced will not change; it is an unalterable fact that has already happened. But if we do something, perhaps the future on this timeline will be better."
Diana put forward her view, "Our presence here is part of history."
"But it sounds like a theory completely opposite to Flash's. Our future won't change, but we will create another world that extends from this point in time. This is why I think my mother is wise, because she often warned me about time issues."
Hal shrugged his shoulders, "So I'll leave her the night before my coming of age, because she said I wouldn't have a future before I came of age. I think since fate has already arranged it, why not just let nature take its course?"
Diana was silent for a moment, then said in a serious tone, "I have stood in the long river of time and felt the prophecies of the God of Destiny, but in the end, I usually am the one who triumphs over destiny."
"Hey, I think we can put this topic aside for now. I've spotted someone familiar."
Kara suddenly interrupted their conversation.
The two followed Kara's gaze and saw a couple selling farm produce at the market.
"This is?"
Diana's brows furrowed.
"Yes, Superman's father and mother. To be honest, this is my first time seeing them like this."
Kara hadn't decided whether to go say hello yet, but she was immediately spotted by the sharp-eyed Jonathan.
"That's Kara!"
Jonathan took a deep breath and whispered to his wife, who was packing up farm produce.
"?"
Martha straightened up, cast her gaze in the direction her husband indicated, and soon saw Kara standing between Green Lantern and Wonder Woman.
"How is that possible? Why is she here?!"
Martha's eyes showed even greater surprise than her husband's.
She had recently seen Eric knock Kara down with her own eyes, and Kara's body had disappeared in a beam of light. She couldn't believe the other party would appear at the market.
"Don't worry, I don't think she'll make a move in the market. Martha, you go back to the farm first and tell Eric and Clark about Kara's reappearance. I'll stall her."
Although he didn't think the other party would make a move in the market, Jonathan wouldn't completely rely on the other party's integrity.
"No!"
Martha grabbed her husband's hand, "We'll go back together. You can't stay here."
"You're pregnant, Martha. Her and Jor-El's target isn't me. I'll be fine."
Jonathan comforted his wife while urging her to leave.
"I don't know what happened, but did we know each other before?"
While Jonathan and Martha were arguing, Kara walked over and asked them in a confused tone.
"I don't know what tricks you're playing, but Clark won't go with you."
Facing Kara, Jonathan said bluntly, "I won't betray my son either. He has his own life, and no one can decide his future. Not even his so-called biological father. If you think you can threaten me to make Clark and Eric submit, then I must say, you're overthinking it!"
"We've already called the police. If you don't want to cause more trouble, then leave here."
Martha stood aside, her face showing a determined expression.
Kara: "So you dislike me very much?"
"It's not dislike, but an attitude."
Jonathan stared at her seriously, speaking each word distinctly.
"Alright, perhaps there's some misunderstanding. I've always respected you very much, Mr. Kent, Mrs. Kent."
Kara didn't know why the two of them were so hostile towards her. Although a bit frustrated, she patiently explained to them.
Kara could only return to the duo dejectedly in the end.
"I remember you said you were well-liked by Superman's family."
Hal teased her from the side.
"I don't know, but I was talking about the future."
Kara replied dejectedly.
"Forget it, maybe they naturally dislike me, an older sister who can easily lead her younger brothers astray."
Kara stubbornly found an excuse for herself in the end.
"I remember at this time, Homelander hadn't acquired the Staff yet. If we find Stargirl beforehand, maybe we can help her protect the Cosmic Staff."
Diana proposed a new plan.
"May I ask why you know Homelander's past so well?"
Kara blinked, asking Wonder Woman curiously.
"As Justice League's number one enemy, isn't it normal to know all sorts of information about him?"
Wonder Woman adjusted the edge of her robe across her chest and turned to leave the market.
"Stargirl's hometown is Blue Valley, which is some distance from here. If we're walking, we'd better not waste time standing around foolishly."
"...?"
Looking at Wonder Woman's back, Kara was full of questions. Was Eric Justice League's number one enemy?
