Today, the girl is out in the village with Freja to go pick up the ice cream that she promised her last night. The village was a special place filled with an adventurous nostalgic mystique that could only bring you fun and great memories from when you were a kid. The older you get, the more you realise it was just a quiet area with kind, old people and lots of DIY stores and local markets. It was peaceful. Freya and Freja walk hand in hand through the village engaging in leisurely chatter.
"Hey, Amelia?"
"Just call me sis or Freya, you can't keep calling me that."
"Okay it's a lil hard to get used to. Hey, sis?"
"Yeah?"
"Can we meet with Becky and Hammy?"
"Who are they?"
"You know who Ben is right? His little siblings. I had fun with them the last time we went to the waterpark!"
The girl starts blushing, shyly looking away towards the other direction upon hearing his name.
"Are you blushing? Sis, did you like Ben?"
Freja begins teasing the girl. Her antics were obvious from the start but the girl fell for it anyway.
"I wouldn't say that…"
"Then?"
"I just don't have much experience around boys you see."
"Well, let's set up a playdate after we get the ice cream!"
"Oh okay sure why not."
Freya complies to her sister's request. She is doing it both because she owes it to her and out of curiosity. Ben was someone who she remembers being mischievous in her previous world. They never really interacted much outside of classes. From Freya's spotty memories, you would wonder why Freya even likes him. She wants to understand Freya more so the girl is curious to see what Freya sees in Ben.
The two girls arrive at the Ice cream parlour located in between a restaurant and a flower shop. The aroma in the air surrounding the place was quite pleasant.
"What flavour did you say you wanted, Freja?"
"Chocolate chip cookie dough with chocolate drizzle."
"Okay, then I will get... Salted caramel cookies and cream."
"...sis you are gross."
"What!? I really like salted caramel…"
"Mhm."
Freja is really judgemental of the girl. Whether she is teasing her or not is unclear. The girl looks at Freja and she is smiling happily so she thinks to herself that maybe she was just joking like usual.
The two girls find a bench to sit down and eat the ice cream. Freja is cutely gnawing away at her ice cream with an expression filled with joy. Freya joins her and uses the plastic spoon she was given to eat her Ice cream. The cold mixture alongside the salty sweetness of the caramel and the crunchiness of the cookies was the perfect blend of everything providing the girl with a blissful feeling in her stomach.
"Ouch brain freeze!"
Freja holds her little head with her hands, writhing in agony trying to shake away the pain infecting her brain. The girl lets out a little chuckle.
"Here I made sure to put some tea into a flask earlier. It doesn't have milk in it so consider that when you sip at it"
"Ew bitter."
Freja sips at the tea again and pulls a face and sticks out her tongue indicating that it was not for her. She takes another bite of her ice cream to wash down the taste of the tea.
"Do you feel better though?"
"A lil. Thanks, sis."
"Just make sure you eat slowly from now on."
"Sis, did you have any siblings?"
"No, I did not. I was an only child growing up. I always wanted a younger sister though."
"You may not be my sister, but you are good enough."
"Thank you?"
The two girls sit and finish off their ice creams. Freya admires the village from the bench. She looks towards the flower shop and remembers simpler times from her childhood.
"Freja, do you like flowers?"
"Hmm? Yeah I love them!"
"Do you want to get some?"
"Yes! What are your favourite flowers, sis?"
"Hmm…If I had to pick it would be the Peony. What about you?"
"Blue Bells. I remember when I was younger, something bad happened to Freya so she took me to a flower field that was filled to the brim with them. She looked at me with her smile filled with warmth and hugged me tightly. The best part about it all was that she told me that she loved me. Ever since then, I've associated her love with Blue Bells. It is a very specific memory of mine that I hold close to my heart. She never did tell me why she looked so upset."
"I see."
The girl's respect for Freya only continues to grow with each day. Freya is amazing, she thought to herself. She exhales deeply and looks forward towards the flower shop.
"Do you want to see if the nice lady at the flower shop sells some Blue Bells?"
"Sure!"
They venture into the store and ask about any blue bell flower arrangements available.
"Sorry we don't have any. They aren't used as cut-flowers due to the fact they don't last very long. However, could we offer you some alternatives?"
"Could you really? That would be great!"
"Yeah!"
The lady at the front of the store goes into the back for about 3 minutes before reappearing with a potted plant in her hand.
"These are called Blue Hyacinths and are a beautiful gift for plant lovers. They have a strong, sweet fragrance and the florets are shaped like stars! Take a look!"
The florist enthusiastically thrusts the flowers towards the two girls. Their faces lit up with excitement and curiosity, with each of them taking the smell of the flowers in.
"These are great."
"I agree! And normally they don't bloom fully until spring too. I think it was a miracle that they bloomed so early."
"Yeah? We will take them."
"That's great! I will grab you a guide on how to take care of them now."
"Thanks."
The florist gives the girls the manual and waves goodbye as they leave the store. Frija waves back, causing the florist to smile warmly at the little girl.
"Let's go home."
"Alright!"
The two girls had enjoyed today's adventure fully. Arriving home hand in hand but now with a new friend.
"Let's put the plant in your room, Freja."
"Hmm, okay. The windowsill should work as a warm bright place for it to not wither."
"Yeah, let's go with there."
" What did you girls get up to?"
Freya and Freja's mother approach the two girls with curiosity in her voice. She glances at the two holding hands and the flowers in Freya's other hand and smiles.
"Big sis took me to get ice cream! Then she bought me this plant! Isn't it cool mama!?"
"Yes it is. Thank you Freya for being such a good older sister."
"Of course Mum. I love Freja very much, this is the least she deserves!"
"Haha you two are so cute. Go along now. I will be making dinner later."
"Thank you mum!"
"Thank you mama!"
The two girls quickly scurry upstairs and into Freja's room. Her room is a light pink, and filled with plushies and figures that small girls would like. Amelia, although she doesn't want to admit it, is a bit jealous of Freya's sister. They place the plant pot on the windowsill of her room and let the plant breathe in the sun. It's not too warm, but the sun shines brightly through the window of her room. The girl and her sister look towards the flower and appreciate both its scent and beauty.
"I wish Freya could see it."
The small girl speaks her mind. It wasn't meant to be hurtful towards Amelia, or anything and she knows that but she frowns in contemplation.
"She will see it. I promise you."
"We will just have to wait and see."
