Chapter 11 - Freja and Freya Wilson

Who are you?" Freja sat at the girls desk, book in hand. Her face bore hostility, her words were piercing. Freya had not expected this day to come anytime soon. She sat and stared at the young girl.

"You are not my sister. The way you act, the things you say, the things you like, they are all different. Not to mention this book. It's signed by my sister's pen name, Naomi Adonai. That was a name only she had told me about. Me and her are close so I was worried at first but with how you treat me it's as though I don't mean anything to you. I searched your room because I was scared you were depressed and were hiding something from me. However, there it laid, in your bedside drawer. A book detailing who you were and the fact that you were not my sister but someone called Amelia. I don't believe in ghosts or possession, but I can tell that you are not her. So are you going to tell me the truth? Or are you going to continue being a poser?"

Freya's sister was only 10 years old, yet she spoke with such purpose and understanding that the girl couldn't help but tell her the truth.

"Freja…you are right. I am not your sister."

"Then…Who are you really?"

"My name is Amelia. The reason I have become your sister is unknown even to me."

"Are you trying to harm us?"

"What?"

"Like are you here to harm my family?"

"No. I have a mission to complete. If you read the book then you would know why I am here."

"What did you do to my sister? Where is she?"

"...I don't know."

"What do you know!?"

Freja screams out, her voice wavering ever so slightly. It was a pitiful and sorry sight. Amelia felt bad, but couldn't find the words that she wanted to hear.

"Her and mama are all I have…They love me. They give me warm hugs and play with me when I ask. Dad has crazy expectations of me and he does not care for anyone unless they meet them. I just want to live freely. I am not a genius like my sister. You see, my sister always tells me that she will always be there for me and that she will always look forward to seeing who I can become for myself. She said that I shouldn't have to be like her. She was my everything and the person I love most. You replaced her…"

"Look Freja, I know how that feels. Where I'm from, I lost my Father. For years I wondered when he was coming back to find out that was never going to be the reality I lived in. However, as Freya, I have been given an opportunity to save him. I don't know why, but from everything you just told me, Freya wanted to help me in some way. She wrote a book for me and to change my destiny. I figured this world was no more than a stroke of luck and never considered the fact that I was stealing someone's sister, daughter or friend away and for that, I am sorry. However, I feel as though Freya wanted this for me. She gave me this opportunity for a reason and when everything is resolved she will be able to tell me and you why. I come from a different world, one much different than this one. I don't expect you to believe me, but it is true. I stumbled across this book in the library as it fascinated me and I did not know that it would lead me down this path but for what it is worth, I am here."

Freja stared at the girl, her face disgruntled.

"...I believe you. Please tell me what life was like for you in your world at least? And what your relationship is to my sister." Freja stood up and walked up to me. She looked directly into the girl's eyes to show she was fully intent on hearing the girl out.

"I was 19 in my previous world. From the day high school ended, until the day I picked up your sister's book I lived my life like a recluse. I used to have minimal contact with anyone, only ever speaking to my mother over the phone sometimes even though we lived in the same house and the librarian of the library I went to about every 2 weeks. Simply put, my life had no direction. Every action I took was virtually meaningless. I was just going through the motions and everyday I repeated the same cycle. I felt it was the only way I could live. I had no friends. My mother was a mess ever since my father left and constantly found herself working or drinking to numb the pain and became too dangerous for me to interact with. I lived with no purpose and above all, I hated myself. The only thing that gave me comfort was sitting in my room and reading."

"What about my sister? How did you know her?"

"Well your sister Freya was someone who I hated with all my heart."

"What!? How could you hate my sister? She wouldn't hurt a fly!"

"I understand how you feel. For the short year I knew Freya, she tormented me more than you could ever imagine. She spread rumours about me making it hard to even speak to people in classes. She would gang up on me with friends and get them to call me names. She would become the first friend I thought I ever made, yet betrayed any expectations I had of such a friend by never including me in anything she did. I could talk forever about all the mean acts she committed against me. Although, having become Freya and living just a short two weeks of her life, I can come round and say that I no longer hold that same level of hatred towards her. I wouldn't say what she did was still correct or forgivable. Although, I can't find it in my heart to hold it against her. She is only human too. She was desperate to become an Author, even more than me. I don't think she thought it through fully and truly came to regret what she had done. That is why I am in the position I am in today. She gave me a chance to regain my passion, my sense of self and most importantly, my life back. I could not begin to thank her enough. I am blessed to have your sister care about me the way she did and when I go back to where I came from, I hope that me and her can talk things out." Amelia spoke from the heart for the first time in her life. She continued to stare into the eyes of Freja until she responded.

"Amelia…I am sorry." Freja bowed her head. The emotion put into the action was the most genuine thing Amelia has felt since arriving in this world.

"No you don't have to be sorry for anything. It is not your fault. You're in a position that I can't even begin to imagine. I should be the one saying sorry. How about we work together? You want your sister back and I want my life back. If you need anything I can help you out as best I can."

"Sure! Since this is a big shock to me, take me to get ice cream tomorrow and also let's read those books you promised to read to me!"

"Aren't you cheeky…well yeah I'll take you to get Ice cream and I don't remember ever promising you that I'd read you books but I owe it to you anyway."

"Yay, Thank you Amelia!"

"You still have to call me Freya…"

"Okay!"

Frija says her goodbyes and leaves beaming like usual. The door slams shut and the tense air that filled the room began to dissipate.

"That girl really loves her sister. That makes it even more important that I make sure I get these incidents of mine solved as soon as possible. Not only for myself anymore but for For Freya and Fria as well as my mother and father."

The girl, after enduring such a chaotic day, peacefully enjoyed her slumber. She got a lot off her mind today. For the first time in years she shared her time with others. She was honest not only to everyone but herself. She could feel that she was changing for the better. She did not know how long she had left as Freya but whilst she is still here, she will make sure to take leaps forward that she never could have dreamed to achieve before. That thought filled the girl with hope for a better future.
