After delivering all the documents to Danzel's office, she returned to her cabin. She couldn't understand Danzel's behavior in the meeting room, but chose not to dwell on it as he didn't bring that topic up again. He only told her to make a summary of what had been discussed in the meeting and submit it to him before lunch. After lunch, she received another batch of files to work on. As she was busy with her work, she didn't notice when a man arrived and stood in the open doorway of her cabin, watching her intently.
"Wow… I didn't know the president have such a beauty as his personal secretary."
Coral startled at the voice. When she raised her head, she saw a young, handsome man standing before her. He was smirking, his eyes filled with mischief.
"Sorry… how can I help you, sir?" She asked politely.
"Ah, a sexy voice too." He commented, approaching her desk.
Coral was speechless. She felt uncomfortable under his gaze.
"I've come to meet your boss." The man added, sitting down on the chair like a boss.
Coral felt nervous. "D-Do you have an appointment, sir?"
"Appointment?" The man smirked. "No dear, I don't have any appointment." Leaning forward, he whispered the words as if they were a secret.
Coral cleared her throat. "Umm… in that case, I'm afraid I can't let you in, sir. He's currently busy."
She had been told that no one to meet Danzel without appointment.
The man chuckled lightly. "Inform your boss that his brother has come to meet him."
"Brother?" Coral's eyes widened and her face turned pale with embarrassment. "I'm sorry, sir… I didn't know that…"
"It's okay, sweetheart..." The man cut her off.
Coral fell silent, clueless about how to react.
"I am Heath Knight. It's nice to meet you." He added after a moment of silence.
She didn't know anything about the Knight family, nor did she know any of their family members. The only thing she knew was that Knight Corporation was the biggest company in their country. She felt awkward thinking about what the man would think, that she didn't know him. Apart from Danzel, all other members of the Knight family were very popular on social media. However, she didn't use social media much, nor was she interested in the lives of the rich. But now that she was working in the company, she felt the need to know them in order to save herself from further such humiliation in the future.
She gave him an awkward smile and immediately dialed Danzel's office phone. The man entered the office soon after.
.
Inside the office Heath walked towards the desk with an air of arrogance.
"Hello, brother." He greeted and took a seat opposite Danzel.
"What do you want?" Danzel asked coldly.
"The finance department refused to give me the money." Heath replied.
"So?"
"May I know why? I'm doing a project. I need the fund."
"A waste of a project." Danzel stated.
"Ofcourse not. We'll benefit from it hugely."
"Yeah that's why only the small companies have came for the collaboration. That says how profitable it going to be." Danzel raised an eyebrow as he said in a mocking tone.
Heath clenched his jaw.
"That's not the point. I've decided to give them a chance to work with us. You can never look down on small companies. They can be of huge benefit if you use them well."
"Oh really?" Danzel leaned back in his chair, looking at him intently.
"Yeah. Tell the finance department to give me the funds." Heath stated. His words were more like a command than a request. But Danzel wouldn't budge.
"You've already wasted enough. The real estate business has been doing poorly ever since you got into it. You've collaborated with those small companies because no big company is eager to invest their name and money with you anymore." He snapped.
"Are you saying I'm incapable of running the business?"
"Your records are saying louder than me." Danzel stated casually.
Heath slammed his hand on the table, furious. "Don't forget I'm also an heir of Knight Corporation, Danzel. You may be the president but you can't deny me the money."
Then, as if something occurred to him and he calmed down, leaning back in the chair.
"Mom and Dad are coming back from their business trip next week. Let's see how long you can deny me." He smiled mischievously.
Danzel's voice hardened.
"Are you threatening me?"
"Of course not. You're my big brother. How can I threaten you?" He replied.
The smile on his face never went away. Danzel glared at him. The air thickened with tension as both men were trying to intimidate each other with their hard glare. There was an unspoken challenge hanging between them.
"By the way, your new secretary is beautiful. You're not as innocent as you pretend to be." Heath added after a while with a smirk.
Danzel frowned and something came to his mind. However, he quickly composed his expression and wore a blank face.
"My business has nothing to do with you." he said. "You can leave now if you're done here."
"Sure. See you soon, brother." Heath gave him a wicked smile and left the office.
.....
The day went by in a blur. Coral's back began to ache after sitting for so long and sorting the files. With a sigh, she placed the last file on the desk. She leaned back in her chair, closing her eyes. Right then, the intercom rang and his heavy voice came.
"Come to my office now."
She stood up and picked up all the files and headed towards his office. The door was open, so she entered without knocking. As soon as she entered, she saw the desk empty. She looked around and found him near the floor-to-ceiling glass window, looking outside with his hands in his pockets.
"You called me, sir." she said while approaching the desk and placing the files.
He didn't reply.
"Here are all the files, sir." she said and stood to the side, lowering her head.
After a while, Danzel turned towards her.
"Leave them here. Liam will take care of them. There were some files on the desk. Deliver them to the finance department. After that, you can go home." he said.
"Okay, sir." She said, looking at the files which were already on the desk before her arrival.
She grabbed them and headed toward the door. In her haste, her leg slipped. Fortunately, she managed to balance herself and didn't fall, but the files scattered across the floor.
"I'm sorry." She said quickly, bending down to pick them up, afraid that her boss might scold her.
However, she didn't notice Danzel approaching to leave at the same time and unknowingly blocked the doorway.
"Miss Stone." His voice startled her.
As she quickly turned around and stepped back in a hurry, her legs slipped again. The files went flying into the air as she instinctively reached out to grab his jacket for dear life. But she couldn't grab anything as her hands only brushed against his chest. Danzel stood unmoving with a hard expression, watching her fall to the ground with a thud.
Pain shot through Coral as she gasped, "Ah!"
Danzel clenched his jaw. Before Coral could move, he bent down, glaring at her with fury. "Are you trying to seduce me?"
Coral flinched at his words. She lifted her head and met his murderous glare. She was both terrified and shocked. What made him think that?
"Seduce you? N-no, sir. I slipped accidentally." She hurriedly explained. Her voice was barely above a whisper.
"Oh really? Since morning, you've been finding excuses to get close to me. And now you're acting innocent?"
Coral's face turned crimson with embarrassment. She was speechless at how low he thought of her.
"N-no, s-sir. You're misunderstanding me." She stuttered.
"Enough. I will not tolerate this kind of unprofessional behavior. Get that into your head, Miss Stone. Otherwise, be prepared to get fired." He said coldly and walked out, leaving her on the floor.
Coral's eyes welled up with tears. She sat there silently for a moment before gathering herself and wiping her cheeks. She picked up the files and left the room.
Humiliation burned in her chest. She had worked hard and hadn't done anything wrong, yet he reprimanded her for no reason. He even accused her of trying to seduce him. This was something she couldn't accept. It appeared as though he loathed her, but she had no idea why. She felt wronged.
