Synopsis
Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy, Post-Apocalyptic, Isekai, Comedy, Gender Bender, Sci-fi Virtual Hunter: The world as we know it ended three years ago, not with a bang, but with a silent, magical shimmer. Mysterious portals appeared all over the globe, a source of initial wonder that soon became the harbinger of humanity's doom. From these portals emerged legions of mythical and monstrous creatures, unleashing a brutal apocalypse that nearly wiped out civilization. In humanity's darkest hour, a new breed of hero emerged—the Virtual Hunters. These weren't soldiers or special operatives; they were ordinary people who, upon the monster invasion, awakened to special powers linked to their virtual alter egos. They were the Vtubers, and the characters they had created now became their real-life avatars. They gained the strength, abilities, and weapons of their on-screen personalities, transforming them into the only force capable of fighting back. At the heart of this new world is Takanashi Kado, a 26-year-old office worker whose life was a monotonous cycle of work and despair. He used to be a shut-in who found solace in creating a Vtuber character he cherished—a 16-year-old catgirl named Luna. But when the world changed, Kado's transformation went wrong. While other male Vtubers became a male version of their characters, Kado's system glitched. He didn't transform into his current self; instead, he became his former self's avatar: a 16-year-old catgirl with the same cute ears, tail, and tiny body. Now, in a world overrun by chaos and monsters, the former loser office worker must learn to survive and fight as a teenage catgirl. Armed with the ridiculous but potent powers of his virtual persona, Luna must navigate a post-apocalyptic reality where the rules of the game are made up on the fly, and every monster—and sometimes, even other Virtual Hunters—is a new challenge. This is the story of how a man, who had given up on reality, found a new life as a hero he never expected to be.

Chapter 1 - Chapter 0: Review + Short

"Is this… really me?"

Takanashi Kado stared at his reflection in a shattered storefront window. He reached up, his hand—no, her hand—tracing the outline of a pair of fluffy, black cat ears perched on a head of long, silvery hair. A petite, 16-year-old face with emerald eyes stared back at him. Her face. His face.

"Meow," a voice chirped. The sound was high-pitched, almost musical. He clapped a hand over his mouth in a panic. That was his voice now? A cat's purr and a girl's giggle. He could feel a long, black tail swishing behind him, an independent entity with a mind of its own.

A shadow loomed over him, and he instinctively flinched. A burly man with a scowl on his face pointed a finger. "Hey, you! What are you doing just standing there?! We need to move!"

Kado, in his new form, shrank back. This wasn't right. He was a 26-year-old man, an exhausted office worker. He had a spreadsheet to finish, a report to write. But all of that felt like a lifetime ago. A low growl echoed from a nearby alleyway, a sound that sent a tremor through his tiny body. His cat ears swiveled, his pupils narrowing into slits.

He had to get a grip. This was a nightmare. This was a dream. This was… his new reality. He took a deep breath, and as he exhaled, the fear was replaced by a strange sense of resolve. He had to survive. He wasn't that tired, defeated office worker anymore. He was the catgirl he had always dreamed of being, the hero in a world that desperately needed one. He was… "Luna."

The name slipped from his lips, and a faint glow enveloped his body. This was his new identity. His new power. He wasn't a loser anymore. He was a Virtual Hunter.
