Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: The Roar of the Frozen Abyss

Null and Azrael were inside the cave, waiting for Nevaeh to wake up. In the meantime, they were doing something to keep from getting too bored… and to calm their nerves after hearing the monstrous roar echoing through the frozen mist.

Null: What if we play a skill game?

Azrael: What kind of game would require a master of skills like me? (Proudly and laughing) I'll win, obviously.

Null: We'll see about that (laughs) It'll be a duel of—

Nevaeh began to stir. Azrael noticed and quickly moved closer to her.

Azrael: Nevaeh, how are you feeling?

Null approached too, kneeling beside them.

Null: Looks like she's gathered enough energy to finally wake up. —looks at Azrael— Azrael, I hope you're ready for what we planned.

Azrael: Yeah, I know. I'm ready. Either we find that thing… or it finds us. —his muscles tense, teeth clenched— I'd rather be the hunter than the prey.

Null: That's the spirit (grins with excitement) That thing won't even know what hit it.

Nevaeh opened her eyes, sat up, and yawned slightly. When she saw Azrael in front of her, she smiled softly.

Nevaeh: Hey, love… did I defeat the demon?

Azrael: Of course you did —he said proudly— You were amazing, Nevaeh. That demon actually tried to run away, but it couldn't escape the sun you threw at it.

Null: (laughing but nodding) Yeah, that's true. I was honestly shocked by your power.

Nevaeh: (smiling brightly) I'm so glad I did it! I can't believe I actually—

The creature's roar thundered again — louder, deeper, and so powerful it tore through the air, the ground, and even the climate itself, splitting the frozen landscape apart in a colossal quake.

Null: Damn it, we need to get out of here!! —creates several fire spheres and hands them to Azrael and Nevaeh— Go, go!

Azrael and Nevaeh nodded and sprinted out of the cave. The moment they escaped, the entire cavern collapsed into shards of ice and rubble.

Azrael: That was close (breathing heavily)

Nevaeh: Way too close (tired)

Null: Protect those flames I gave you —they'll keep you immune to this absolute cold— and keep your eyes open. That creature could be closer than we think.

The three started walking cautiously through the frozen wasteland. Azrael released several dark orbs into the fog, attempting to bend the gravity around them to clear their vision — but only for a few fleeting seconds.

Azrael: Tch, this place is almost immune to my gravity... Must be because of what happened with Alcanor when he sealed me.

Null: That's probably it.

They continued moving forward, but then — the roar came again. Louder. Angrier. The very reality trembled.

Suddenly, the ground split open beneath them in a massive chasm. The three had no choice but to run in the opposite direction before the fracture swallowed them whole.

Null: RUN! RUN!!

Azrael: I'M TRYING!!

Nevaeh: AAAAAHH!!

They ran as fast as they could until the quake stopped spreading. Then the crack expanded into a perfect circle — and from that pit… the roar erupted again, stronger, more furious, shaking the frozen dimension itself.

From the abyss emerged a colossal monster, twenty meters tall, its skin white as snow, its arms and back crowned with jagged ice spikes, its teeth and claws sharper than blades. Its breath was pure zero — a freezing aura capable of stopping time itself.

Suddenly, the system window flashed before them in crimson light — blaring with an emergency alert.

Null: Oh, come on! What now!?

SYSTEM ALERT:

⚠️ Lethal Threat Detected! ⚠️

Dimension Boss:Devourer of the Glacial Void

Difficulty:Impossible

Survival Probability:0.1%

Description:This creature has existed since the creation of Hell itself. It slumbers endlessly until the infernal flames freeze over, awakening from its eternal rest to rise and devour all living beings within its reach.

Null: Wait, WHAT!? Only "0.1%"? You NEVER gave me warnings like this before — and now you do!?

Azrael: FOCUS, NULL!!

The Devourer wasted no time. It unleashed a breath of frost so cold it froze the very dimension around them. Null poured every ounce of fire into a blazing barrier to block it — barely managing, his arms half-frozen.

Null: Damn it… barely stopped that —(shakes off ice, draws sword)— Guess we'll have to go all out from the start.

Nevaeh and Azrael nodded. Azrael summoned his Shadowblade, while Nevaeh wielded her divine axe, Rita. The three braced themselves as the Devourer charged at inhuman speed, slamming its fist down with an impact that fractured the world itself.

Azrael: Tch… I didn't expect that kind of speed.

Nevaeh: (fearful) It's too fast!! And way too strong!

Null activated his skill "Divine Light," his body glowing with sacred flames.

Null: Alright then, Devourer of the Glacial Void… let's see if you can handle this!

Null dashed forward, his blade blazing with divine fire. He unleashed a storm of slashes, each one brighter and stronger than the last — yet the creature barely moved. With a swift motion, it snapped its icy fingers near Null's ear, deafening him temporarily. Disoriented, Null barely noticed as the Devourer swung its massive arm — and nearly obliterated him, leaving only his head intact.

Null: Damn it —(spits blood, using energy to regenerate)— This thing makes that demon look like a joke.

Azrael: Yeah… this is gonna be a problem.

The Devourer lunged toward Nevaeh, but Azrael intercepted it, unleashing a slash that tore through time itself. Yet the monster caught the cut, as if it were a tangible object — and threw it back at them.

Azrael: What the—!? —grabs Nevaeh's hand— Move!!

They dove aside just in time. The reflected slash grazed Azrael, slicing off a strand of his hair.

The Devourer then exhaled once more — this time forming colossal ice spears, each over 500 meters long and 200 wide. It gripped them effortlessly and hurled them across the frozen field like arrows of death.

Azrael tried to dodge while masking their heat signatures within the mist, making sure the protective flames around them stayed lit.

Azrael: Damn it, this is getting worse by the second!

Nevaeh: There has to be a way to defeat it!

Azrael: (trying to stay calm) I know… but I don't see how yet.

Meanwhile, Null — fully regenerated — rose from the snow, his aura burning hotter than ever.

Null: You think you can finish me off that easily? Think again, Devourer! I won't fall here… I'll NEVER lose!

Null activated his elements — fire, wind, lightning — merging them with his "Divine Light." The Devourer roared and launched a devastating attack straight at him.
