A/N: So uh, I won't be making any promises for this fic. If you know me, then you know my promises are... Most of the time unfulfilled... But uh *ahem* yeah. Just enjoy my new story I guess.
——[Chapter Start]——
It was a beautiful day outside, the birds were singing, the flowers were blooming, and on days like these... You should be drinking coffee.
And drink coffee did Kaisel do, as the man was in the peaceful confines of his home, sipping a fresh glass and preparing for his morning.
As he took another sip from his cup, he took a bite from a brownie that he prepared.
"Hm..." He analyzed the taste of the chocolate brownie with a contemplative face.
"Man..." He sighed.
"These edibles ain't shi-" Suddenly, the man's vision blacked as his consciousness faded, with a thud the glass of coffee in his hand dropped at the same time he did.
Shouldn't have taken those edibles Kaisel, naughty naughty boy.
—————
"Ugh... The hell..." I groaned, my head a jumbled mess as I woke up on hard ground.
I forced myself to stand as I opened my eyes to a sight that was beyond me.
"What... What the fuck." My eyes widened as I fully registered in my surroundings, I was in a building building of some sort, the walls and floors were cracked and the ceiling was just outright missing.
I looked up and saw a split sky. One side was a beautiful blue, as clouds peacefully roamed it's skies, undisturbed as it should have been.
While the other was blood red in comparison, dark clouds roamed it's skies, as if a world-wide wild fire had just occurred.
I stumbled lightly and forced myself to walk near the broken building wall as I took in the sight before me.
It looked like the land of the dead, black soil took up most of the land and a red sky as far as you can see.
Clearly, this wasn't earth.
"Where the hell am I..." I checked my body, I was dressed differently, in a uniform of some sort, one I haven't seen before, and fabric I wasn't familiar with.
I clutched the side of my head in pain as sharp headache suddenly hit me.
I saw memories, memories of a different world, of a different life I haven't experienced, and yet somehow have. I saw an entirely different world and life unfolding before my very eyes.
The name of the one inhabiting this body was Kaisel, sharing the name I once did back on earth.
He had no last name as he from a commoner family and held a very high rank in the military. He was assigned to the frontliners as the new master of this fortress I'm standing on currently.
I peered through the walls again and saw a wave of creatures that looked like something out of a fantasy novel.
I was in a war. A war between humanity and monsters of unknown origins, from the memories I gathered, I came to know that these monsters were invaders from another dimension, sent to this world to claim it as theirs.
And from what i've seen... We were losing, and badly. Despite this fortress being the last wall standing between the monsters and Humanity, it was in pretty bad shape.
The automatic Mana Barriers that surrounded the fortress were offline, it's weapons and armaments have discarded their ammunition, the man power was scarce, the reinforcements from the Empire haven't yet, and supplies were basically nonexistent, It was in its worst state in years since it's creation.
—————
"Fucking hell..." Kaisel slumped unto the fortress walls as he grimaced over his situation.
Suddenly, the doors across from him burst open revealing a man wearing a similar uniform.
"Commander!"
"Hans..?" He recognized the man from his memories, Hans was the right hand man of the previous Kaisel, a capable man with a lot of great qualities.
"Holy shit! Are you good, Commander?" Hans asked in concern as he helped Kaisel up.
"I'm fine Hans... More importantly, what's the damage report?" Kaisel locked in, adopting the personality the previous Kaisel had, a no nonsense kind of man.
"I'm afraid the fortress took quite the beating... With the barriers down the Fortress is now susceptible to the Dragon's attacks." He plopped Kaisel down a leather couch surrounded by rubble.
Kaisel clicked his tongue, the thought of the Dragon leading the wave appeared in his mind, with the Fortress this vulnerable, he wasn't sure he was gonna make it past this wave alive.
"What should we do now Commander..?" Hans, a man that was once claimed a genius in strategizing now looked lost, his eyes downcast as beads of sweat couldn't help but form on his face. He looked at Kaisel, hoping for an answer.
"..." Kaisel closed his eyes in thought, no viable choices appearing except for one last resort.
"Evacuate everyone from the Fortress, now."
"Pardon..? Commander but that would lea- You can't possibly mean.."
"Yes, I'm gonna activate the Fortresses self-destruction sequence." Kaisel slowly stood up and headed towards the desk at the end of the room.
"But Commander that's just a temporary solution! Even if we wipe out this wave with the explosion they'll still keep coming for us!" Hans lost his composure and raised his voice.
"Then do you have a better idea Hans?" Kaisel asked in a cold tone, leaving Hans speechless, and unable to reply.
"Temporary as it may be, it'll still be able to buy us some time. Even without this Fortress, we can still rely on the Empire's walls."
"Then commander what about those outside the empire..? The cities, the villages of innocent people, farms and their livestock, will we discard them too?" Hans solemnly asked.
"Tell them to migrate to the Empire while we still have time. And if they refuse to migrate and simply can't.." Kaisel grit his teeth, forcing the words out of him.
"In war, there are always sacrifices..."
"...Obliged, Commander." Hans paused for a bit before exiting the room.
—★—
Kaisel took off his cap and with a sigh, put his palm against his face.
"Just what is this situation.. Why am I suddenly thrust into a war when I should be chilling at home and being a normal person..."
Kaisel tended to the wounds on the side of his head, he stopped the bleeding with a splash of a Red Potion and covered the healing wound up with a Gauze.
As he was busy, he received a message from Hans via Telepathy that everyone except him has already fled the fortress.
"Has it already been that long?" Seeing as how everything was ready, he was gonna blow this up.
But just then, the ground beneath him rumbled, and as he realized something was wrong, he peered out from the hole of his wall.
A monster resembling a giant spider was climbing the walls and was already on course to his office.
"Shit! They're already here!" He panicked as the Monsters were swiftly climbing the walls.
A cannon from the walls fired it's last shot, as an explosion reminiscent of that of a bomb with a couple kilotons of TNT rang out.
Kaiser sprinted to get a sword and got out of the room. The Fortress corridors were already about to get overrun so he sprinted as fast as he could to get to the command center where he could blow this place up to smitherins along with the monsters that were sieging the Fortress.
As he was running, the wall besides suddenly got cleaved through by a large scythe large limb.
"Holy fuc-" Kaisel barely had time to react as the Scythe-like limb went straight for him. Seeing as how his death was inevitable, he knew he was cooked and just closed his eyes, waiting for death.
...But even after waiting, there was no death... There was no pain and the world had suddenly grown silent.
He opened his eyes to see the Scythe-like limb suspended in midair, mere inches in front of his face.
It seemed, time has stopped for him.
Before he could question it, he suddenly felt a burst of power flow from within him. He closed his eyes again and focused on the power, imitating what he had learned from novels he had read from the past.
After a few moments he spoke.
"I see.. I understand it now." A smirk formed on his face as a new found confidence suddenly replaced his despair. As if his fear of death wasn't a thing to begin with.
"[Summon]" He muttered underneath his breath as a kaleidoscope of colors burst through his surroundings.
[First Summon: The King Of Knights, Astoria Pendragon]
"Hell yeah. I'll play this game."
