John directed Silver toward the African continent — to confront the calamity known as the Firebird, the Phoenix.
There were countless legends claiming that dragons and phoenixes were eternal enemies, beings destined to clash since the dawn of myth itself.
When Silver heard that one of the disasters was a phoenix, he immediately asked John to let him handle it.
There had always been stories about dragons, phoenixes, and other mythical beasts — creatures that humanity had once thought were legends, now all this terrifyingly legends turn to become real in this monster-filled world.
That meant that, long ago, such beings had somehow crossed into our world — specifically Earth — though ancient humans had mercifully left behind records of their existence.
These creatures had never caused destruction back then; they appeared suddenly… and vanished just as suddenly.
At least this was John's theory for now.
It was no different in the realm of Dragnir. There were also legends of the phoenix — but unlike Earth's myths, their world contained records of battles between dragons and phoenixes, proof that they were natural-born enemies.
That was why Silver requested to be sent there — to confirm those records, and to prove once and for all that dragons were superior to phoenixes.
"Very well," John said calmly. "But make sure no humans are harmed in the process. You know the consequences."
Silver nodded. He understood clearly — if he endangered even a single human, it would count as a violation of the contract, one that could cause him unbearable pain… or kill him outright.
"As for the human team," John continued, turning to William and the others, "you'll be heading to Europe. Your target — the disaster Cerberus. Join forces with the European awakeners, organize your troops, and eliminate it."
John shared with them everything he remembered from his previous life — strategies, weaknesses, even small details that could turn the tide.
His knowledge wasn't perfect, but it was still far beyond anything humanity currently possessed.
"Then… where are you going, John?" William asked, a hint of concern in his voice.
He knew what it meant for John to operate solo — it meant facing another disaster alone.
But William also knew he couldn't stop him. John's current power made it more dangerous to accompany him, anyone with him would only become a burden.
"I'll be heading to South America," John replied. "To face the Kraken."
The legendary sea monster — once thought to be myth — was now terrifyingly real.
Stories from centuries ago spoke of a colossal octopus dragging ships into the depths. But the current Kraken was far beyond myth. Its size rivaled that of a city, and its attacks reached coastal towns and inland cities alike.
In just a few days, it had erased several major population cities from the map.
To John, the Kraken was the most dangerous creature to humanity at the moment.
"We'll depart in a day," John announced. "Rest and prepare for your next battles."
With that, he headed toward an abandoned building to make his own preparations.
"Now then… let's finally check that annoying message that's been blinking since my fight with Silver," John muttered, opening his system window.
Ding! You are the first to subdue an S-rank monster!
Ding! You are the first to subdue a World-Class monster!
Ding! You are the first to prevent a global disaster!
Ding! The system appreciates your actions — calculating rewards!
Error detected in Luck Stat: Negative value found. Attempting repair…
Repair failed. No error found.
"When I thought my luck stat might finally turn positive… this happens. Guess the system's just messing with me." John sighed deeply.
Ding! The system cannot fix your luck, but will grant alternative rewards!
Displaying rewards...
Three rewards appeared before him.
"What… are these rewards?!" John muttered, wide-eyed.
Reward 1: Sword of Susanoo
Reward 2: Memory Search Skill
Reward 3: 1,000,000 Luck Points
"All great rewards," John said, smiling faintly. "At least the system's still generous — sometimes."
The Sword of Susanoo would be extremely useful in his coming battle against Yamata no Orochi.
According to legend, Susanoo had slain Yamata no Orochi himself — and now, the same divine weapon had appeared as one of John's rewards.
No one knew if the disaster version of Yamata no Orochi was the same as the mythic one, but one thing was certain — the sword would be invaluable in that fight.
The second reward, Memory Search, was also perfect for his situation.
After learning that someone was behind these disasters, being able to see memories directly was far more useful than hearing other people's descriptions.
After all, not every monster would willingly share information — and even if they did, who could say it was true?
As for the third reward — 1,000,000 Luck Points — it was helpful, but not enough to fix his cursed stat.
His Luck had now increased from -984,561,316 to -983,561,316.
"The second reward's the best right now," John thought to himself. "Looks like my bad luck still affects even the system. Not a single reward that makes my Kraken fight easier…"
He wondered if, by continuing to save humanity and defeat disasters, he might one day erase his bad luck entirely.
The next day.
"I'll leave these with you," John said, handing over several sealed boxes to William's group. "Use them only when you reach Europe."
"What's inside, John?" William asked curiously.
"You'll find out when you get there. No need to rush."
He gave a faint smile, then turned toward the sky.
"Well then… It's time. Take care."
John watched as the human and dragon forces departed — one toward Africa, one toward Europe — before spreading his wings of mana and soaring alone toward South America.
