Having adapted to the Archmage's power, Gale pondered how to create an Arcane barrier. Should he use Runestones as the boundary for the Arcane barrier, like the Sin'dorei?
This might be a method. However, such a massive barrier would be too conspicuous and would inevitably be discovered by the Kaldorei. If someone wanted to enter Gale's Tower, the open-pit mine would surely be exposed.
Perhaps he could add an invisibility rune to the Runestones!
So, Gale found a large rock and began to study how to enchant it. What needed to be hidden was the barrier, not the rock; simply using an invisibility rune would definitely not work. Even if it succeeded, a mountain of that size suddenly disappearing would still draw attention.
The Imperial army just hadn't explored this far yet; it wasn't that they lacked the ability to explore. It was just that the Rangers hadn't yet discovered the advantage of aerial surveillance and hadn't raised hippogryphs; otherwise, these eight open-pit mines would never have fallen into Gale's hands.
Just as Gale was researching, something in his magic pouch suddenly moved.
Gale immediately opened the pouch and took out a crystal. This was the control crystal for the Sin'dorei Mage Tower, and it was flickering as if to alert him that something had happened.
It was said that this crystal marked the Mage Tower's spatial beacon, and by holding it and casting a Teleportation spell, one could open a portal to the desired Mage Tower.
Thinking of this, Gale immediately channeled Arcane Energy into the crystal and then cast a Teleportation spell.
Sure enough, a light blue portal appeared before Gale. Through the portal, he could see the scene on the other side: the meditation room inside the Sin'dorei Mage Tower.
Gale tentatively walked through, and indeed, he was teleported back to Sin'dorei.
He glanced at the portal; it hadn't disappeared. He then confidently walked out of the meditation room to check the changes within the Mage Tower.
Soon, he sensed someone "stealing" spellbooks in the library.
When he went to check, he found it was Meijia and Luden.
The two had returned to Sin'dorei from Zul'Saroth with the transport team. After purchasing materials, they returned to the Mage Tower. They thought that since Metri had just joined the Mage Tower, he must have a lot of knowledge to learn, so they wanted to bring some basic spellbooks for Metri to study.
They were just putting them into their magic pouches when they saw Gale appear at the library entrance.
"Lord? Why are you back?"
Gale held up the crystal in his hand, "I came back through a portal."
"There's a portal?" Luden was overjoyed, "Then we can go straight back to Redridge Mountains?"
Meijia wasn't as straightforward as Luden, but he was even more pleasantly surprised than Luden: "Lord, have you already become an Archmage?"
Luden was stunned, then looked at Gale with even greater joy. According to custom, one couldn't use the spatial beacon within the crystal without becoming an Archmage.
Gale nodded, "I was researching something just now when this crystal suddenly reacted, so I teleported back to check."
Upon hearing this, both of them immediately looked embarrassed.
"Lord, we didn't expect to cause such a result. We were preparing to bring some spellbooks for Metri; he just started following you, Lord, so he should have a lot to learn."
Gale smiled. These two fellows had good intentions, but they overlooked one thing. Metri had been in other Mage Towers before. Although Gale believed his magical theories were more advanced than other Archmages, some basic theories were still the same.
"No need for basic spellbooks!"
With that, Gale waved his hand, and the spellbooks the two had taken down automatically flew back onto the shelves. Some spell theory books with novel viewpoints or in areas other mages hadn't encountered flew out.
The two were a little surprised but still actively put these spellbooks into their magic pouches.
"Do you have anything else to do? If not, we'll return to Redridge Mountains now."
"It's all done!" Luden said repeatedly, "I can't wait to see what the portal looks like."
Gale led the two to the meditation room. Seeing the portal, Luden immediately dove in. Meijia shook his head speechlessly; this guy really was impatient!
Meijia came near the portal and respectfully waited for Gale to go first. Gale smiled faintly. Although he felt Meijia was being overly cautious, he still felt very gratified. He passed through the portal first, and only after Meijia came through did he close the portal.
Looking at the crystal in his hand, Gale felt that the matter of the Runestones should be put aside for now.
Meijia saw Gale lost in thought, silently bowed to Gale, and then pulled away Luden, who still wanted to express his thoughts.
The two went to the library and took out the spellbooks to place them on the shelves.
Metri saw the new books and immediately walked over. Seeing the knowledge within, Metri was overjoyed and immediately immersed himself completely.
Looking at Metri, the two finally understood why Gale had chosen these books. The magical knowledge they were supposed to learn was a bit too simple for Metri. These books, which they temporarily couldn't understand, were what suited Metri.
The two exchanged glances. This new mage wasn't here to be a junior; he was here to compete for the position of chief subordinate mage.
Gale immersed Arcane Energy into the crystal and quickly learned how spatial beacons were recorded. Recording a spatial beacon was simple: one only needed to know a location's spatial beacon and record it on the crystal using Arcane Energy.
The difficult part was knowing a location's spatial beacon.
A spatial beacon is not a spatial coordinate. Coordinates require a reference point, an origin. A spatial beacon is not; it is a mark a world chooses for a predetermined position, and it never changes.
For example, if the Well of Eternity collapsed, causing cataclysms, and the area of Gale's Tower was supposed to sink into the sea.
If one used spatial coordinates to teleport, then upon teleporting, one would still be high in the air and would not appear in the sea.
However, if one used a spatial beacon, one would appear in the sea. If the collapsed Gale's Tower was buried in the earth, the portal would appear within the collapsed ruins.
Suppose the area where Gale's Tower was located did not sink into the sea but moved with the tectonic plates.
If one used spatial coordinates to teleport, one would teleport to the original position and then fall into the seawater.
If one used a spatial beacon, one would still appear inside Gale's Tower.
Once a spatial beacon is set, it will not change with time or space. Even if the marked object moves, breaks, or even turns to dust, one will still be teleported to its ruins.
This is also why portals more often use beacons rather than coordinates. If the marked object changes, one might not see the marked object after teleporting.
Marking a spatial beacon is the most basic spatial spell, taught at Nathalas Academy. However, this spell is very strenuous to cast, and it is difficult to succeed without becoming an Archmage.
Gale quickly marked Gale's Tower, then took out a piece of Aszuna golden crystal and recorded the beacon within it. He then stabilized the Teleportation spell on it, so as long as he held this crystal, Gale could return to Gale's Tower at any time.
