Chapter 3 - CHAPTER 3: A MYSTERIOUS MAN

James was frantically packing up his things, preparing to run away. He had just heard that Peter had woken up after lying in the coffin for three days. It was unbelievable. He shuddered at the memory of Peter staring at him with his mask pulled down before he drowned in the river. If he didn't leave now, he might not be able to leave at all.

After grabbing some valuable items, James slung his bag over his shoulder and was about to open the door when it suddenly burst open with a loud bang.

 "James, where are you going?"

"Pe... Peter, what are you doing here?"

James retreated as he saw Peter alive and standing before him. He had personally

drowned Peter that night. How could he

still be alive? Thomas closed the door with a flick of his hand and looked at the man in front of him with cold eyes. "What am I doing here?

What did you do three nights ago? You haven't forgotten, have you?"

At this moment, his heart was filled with killing intent. His true self had been murdered, and the current owner of this body had also been murdered. Both his soul and body were filled with resentment. He wanted revenge, and if this matter was not resolved, there would be endless trouble. Seeing that the situation was not good, James grabbed a chair by his feet and smashed it towards Thomas before trying

to escape. However, Thomas was incredibly agile and easily dodged the chair. He then grabbed James by the hair and pulled him back with force.

 "Bang!"

James fell to the ground, his head hitting the ground with a buzzing sound. Thomas stepped on his neck with one foot.

"Tell me, why did you want to kill me?"

 "Who is the other person?"

James struggled constantly, trying to move Thomas's foot, but he found that the foot was as heavy as a thousand pounds and he couldn't move it. At this point, he couldn't breathe properly and he anxiously shouted, "Peter, killing has consequences. You killed me now, and you will also be executed." Thomas sneered, "You're right, killing has consequences. You killed me before as God would have it, he brought me back to life to collect yours."

As he spoke, he exerted force again with his foot. James' face turned red, and his chest was extremely uncomfortable due to a lack of oxygen. He felt like he was about to die. At this point, he quickly said, "I'll talk, I'll talk. Let go of me first, I can't breathe!"

Thomas loosened his foot slightly, "Hurry up and speak, I don't have much patience." James said, "It's... It's someone who wants you dead."

 "Who?"

"His name is Blade, but I don't know who he is!"

"You're lying, aren't you? You dared to attack me, but you don't know who ordered you to do it? Then I will kill you!"

"No, no, no, Peter, what I said is true... Thorn, it's Thorn. From beginning to end, Thorn was the one who contacted me, but he never told me who the boss was besides his nickname!"

Thomas said, "Thorn? The person who fought with you the night before you died?"

 James said, "Yes, it's him."

 "Where is he?"

"I don't know. That person is very mysterious, he came from Oak Hills. All I know is that some people call him Thorn... Peter, aren't you doing well now? I took three hundred thousand dollars, and now there's only one hundred thousand left. I'll give you all of it."

 Peter laughed heartily…

"My life is only worth three hundred thousand in your eyes?" "James, there is some money that cannot be earned. Since you have earned

 This money, you must die."

"You are an orphan with no family. Even if you die, nobody would care. Don't worry, I will give you a decent burial.

James trembled with fear. He saw the murderous look in Thomas's eyes and knew that he was not joking. In a desperate attempt to survive, he suddenly remembered something. "Peter, Peter, wait a minute. I have a secret about your daughter's illness. Don't kill me, and I will tell you."

"What secret can there be about Emma's heart condition?"

"You will be interested. I promise, but you have to promise not to kill me!"

Thomas's expression became serious. After five seconds, he said, "Okay, I promise. You can speak now."

"Your daughter's heart condition was also caused by Blade who ordered Thorn to do it. He gave your daughter a poisonous pill that destroyed her immune system and eventually disrupted her heart."

 "What did you say?"

Thomas exuded an endless murderous intent, as if it were substantial. He had never thought that someone could be so malicious, to do such a cruel thing to a six-year-old child. Who is this person and what is their purpose? Just as Thomas was pondering and trying to find out the identity of the mastermind behind the scenes in Peter's memory, James suddenly jumped up, grabbed a hot water bottle, and smashed it on Thomas. Thomas was lost in thought and was hit by the bottle.

James took advantage of this gap, opened the door, and ran out. Thomas was about to chase after him when he heard a screeching brake sound and a dull impact at the door. He was taken aback and withdrew his foot that was about to step out. He closed the door, cleaned up the traces of the fight inside the room, and quietly slipped out from the back door. An hour later, he was back. He saw a van parked there, and James lying on the ground with blood under his head.

Thomas looked coldly for a moment and silently went back. He returned home with a lot on his mind. Thomas felt that he had to find out Thorn and also the mastermind behind Peter's death, otherwise, the lives of Rachael and Emma would not be guaranteed even after his death, and he would not be able to sleep peacefully.

But in Peter's memory, he didn't even know anyone from Oak Hill. So, it was probably aimed at Rachael! He planned to ask her indirectly. As a result, when he entered the house, he didn't see her, but saw his mother-in-law and Emma watching TV.

 "Mom, where's Rachael?"

As a result, this question instead provoked a furious scolding from his mother-in-law: "She's working, unlike you, who are idle all day and addicted to gambling. What's the use of a man like you?

Thomas rubbed his nose and said, "Mom, I will go make money, don't worry."

His mother-in-law pointed at him and scolded,

"Worry my ass! Then go make some money! Your daughter's medicine is about to run out. It costs three thousand. You better come up with the money! If you can't, then go sleep under a bridge, beg for food, or sell your blood!"

Thomas frowned as he looked at her. In his previous life, he had never seen such a shrewish woman, it was like something out of a TV drama. Three thousand dollars was nothing to him. He used to spend more than that on a single drink.

 But...

He had no money now. Thomas thought back to Peter's life and realized that this guy was tragic, even more so than himself... He grew up without parents and was raised by his grandfather. But in his second year of high school, his grandfather passed away. Later, he married Rachael and they had Emma. Thomas noticed that Peter and Rachael had a good relationship in the first three years of their marriage. However, after Emma was diagnosed with heart disease, their financial situation worsened. Peter's not knowing what to do turned to gambling to make money, which led him down a path of no return. In the end, he was killed.

Thomas sighed. The main problem now was how to get money, otherwise, the old lady would not stop cursing. He couldn't use his previous money, which was all in various mobile payment accounts. Suddenly, he had a bright idea. He remembered that he had a game account that he had spent a lot of money on, and he could sell equipment or the account itself. According to market prices, even selling it for a hundred thousand dollars wouldn't be too much.

However, there was no computer at home, so he had to go to an internet café!

The problem was that even going to the internet café required money, and he didn't even have enough for internet access... While his mother-in-law wasn't paying attention, he searched around the house and finally set his sights on his daughter's piggy bank "Baby, can daddy borrow 30 dollars from you? Don't worry, tomorrow daddy will give you back one hundred."

Emma blinked her big eyes: "Daddy, you can't go gamble!"

Thomas whispered, "I'm not gambling, Daddy is going to make money, but you can't tell anyone, okay?" Emma nodded: "You can take it!"

As a result, Thomas had just pulled out a 30-dollar bill from the bottom of the piggy bank when a loud voice sounded behind him: "You damn thief, you even want to steal from your daughter? Are you even normal?"
