Chapter 1 - prologue

[ somewhere in the Scottish highlands ]

[ John, a newbie Auror's POV ]

The air hung heavy, silent, and unmoving as the Aurors finally arrived at the location of the disturbance. The atmosphere felt bloated with magic; it felt electric, static, pure, natural, and filthy at the same time. It made anyone with the slightest magical sensitivity feel nauseous and dizzy.

John was one of those people. He felt queasy as soon as he arrived, and it wasn't due to the Apparition effects. No, it was due to how heavy the magic in this place was and how tainted it felt. It was very clear that some of the worst dark and corruptive magic had been used here, and looking at this place, he could imagine it.

This whole place, right where he and his fellow Aurors are standing, used to be a mountain. It was not one anymore. It looked more like a hill now—a very deformed hill, but a hill nonetheless.

Step by step, he started walking, wand in hand and senses on full alert. His head turning left and right, eyes scanning everything, looking for a clue to what happened here. Yet he couldn't find anything more than pits full of water, scratched ground, and splintered wood.

They'd come here after the alarms in the ministry started going crazy, the detectors picking up some crazy amount of magical discharge close to Hogwarts. It took some time to get the units together, but when they arrived—it was already like this… so what happened?

Suddenly, he picked up a smell, a faint scent of ozone, burnt pine, along with something metallic… blood?… he cast a quick scent identification spell along with a guiding spell and started sprinting in the direction the spell was guiding him to.

He stopped in his tracks as he felt that nauseating feeling of magic again, although this time it was ten times worse.

He looked around and saw huge pits of scorched ground, black obsidian-like substance coating the sides and centers of these pits… the forest, or what should have been a forest, was nowhere to be found; all that was left were splinters of wood and disfigured roots.

Nevertheless, he couldn't stop, so he started walking again, slowly, towards the direction where the blood scent was coming from, and what he saw almost gave him a heart attack.

There, inside one of the bigger pits on the ground, lay an old man with colorful clothes full of tears and holes, disheveled hair, and a burnt beard.

His mind was still catching up with what he was seeing because he had never, in his life, imagined he'd see the strongest wizard alive in such a miserable state…

"Professor Dumbledore!!!!" His thoughts finally caught up, and he found himself yelling and running towards the old man in the crater…

He started running and sending different spells up into the air—signals for his fellow Aurors to see and hurry to his location.

"Professor, hang in there, please!!" He yelled, pleaded, as he finally came to a halt. He started casting all the diagnostic spells he knew, which, to be honest, weren't a lot—just the five spells taught to them during their year of Auror Academy and camp training.

The results were not pretty: magical exhaustion, fractured ribs, a broken left ankle and right wrist, internal bleeding, some burns of varying degrees, and an overall very bad state…

" Hang in there professor, hang in there" he muttered as he started casting all the first aid spells he knew, to temporarily close off any wounds, to prevent blood loss, to temporarily relieve the pain, etc…

Crack~ crack~ crack~

The sound of displaced air alerted him to the arrival of some of his colleagues, via Apparition.

'Kingsley Shacklebolt, Rufus Scrimgeour and John Dawlish' he thought, naming the senior Aurors leading this investigation…

" Dumbledore!!" Shacklebolt was the first to break out of his stunned state, followed by the other two as they slid down the obsidian-like substance to reach them…

" Dawlish, send a Patronus to Hogwarts and tell them to prepare the hospital wing and summon as many healers as they could, or better yet go there yourself!!! Now!!!" Kingsley started barking orders as he knelt beside them " and you junior Auror, what's your name?"

"It's John Lightly sir!!"

"Alright then, John, I want you to go back to the ministry, go straight into Amelia's office, and tell her to get this whole place warded off and then follow us into Hogwarts…" he stopped and looked at him " what are you still sitting there for, go! go! Go!…"

John scrambled up and took a couple of steps back before Apparating directly to the Apparition zone of the ministry…

[ Kingsley Shacklebolt POV ]

Kingsley looked at the state of Dumbledore, feeling his mind, body and magic reel in shock. He still couldn't believe what he was seeing or that this was happening.

This was Dumbledore, the strongest wizard in recent history, the second coming of Merlin, and no it was not an exaggeration. Dumbledore really was that strong. It was the sort of power that was felt by all those that had met him, the quiet hum of the abundance of magic and magical power, that was so tightly leashed yet could still be felt…

To be reduced to this state, he must have fought something terrible. Was it one of those anomalous monsters that had been appearing everywhere in the world this past decade?… he didn't know…

He laid Dumbledore's head back down as Scrimgeour finished pouring the potions down his throat. They needed him to be stable for Apparition.

"What do you think happened?" Rufus asked him as he finished looking around, casting all kinds of detection charms.

"I don't know, but this place is heavily tainted with some of the darkest magicks I have ever felt. There are traces of the Killing Curse everywhere so I am certain that there was at least one dark wizard here but…" he didn't need to finish because the implication was clear enough…

"Yeah, we have to get Dumbledore healed up as soon as possible. He's the only reliable source of information now…" Rufus muttered as he stood up, clearly finished with his job of putting Dumbledore in a state of temporary inanimation in preparation for their rough transportation method… and then he stepped back slightly, clearing the space for him to get ready to Apparate…

Closing his eyes, Kingsley focused intently on arriving to Hogsmeade village, the closest thing he could safely Apparate to without cutting it close with the Hogwarts wards and ward zone…

Soon enough, he got hold of Dumbledore's shoulder and poured his magic into the spell, and sure enough, the transport was a lot smoother than it usually was…

Appearing in the middle of the streets in Hogsmeade village, he quickly started transfiguring the ground into a stretcher, animating it, and ordering it to move. It took him less than ten seconds to get this done, and he wished he'd done it faster because he could already hear the quiet, shocked gasps of the people who saw him.

As soon as the stretcher, which was now moving very fast, leaving behind a trail of dust, arrived at the outer gates of Hogwarts, the doors opened automatically, as if Hogwarts itself recognized the dire situation.

" My goodness, what happened!!!" The shocked voice of professor McGonagall brought him and the stretcher to a sudden halt. There she was, standing by the inner gates of the castle, hand on her mouth, eyes widened in shock…

"Professor, please tell me everything is ready!!" He all but yelled at the woman who had taught him Transfiguration, but he didn't have the time or energy to dwell on it right now.

"Right of course, this way… everything is ready and Dawlish is already there…" he didn't wait to hear the rest as the stretcher started moving, going up the stairs and through the corridors, heading towards the medical wing of the Hogwarts castle.

Arriving at the hospital wing, he was met with Madam Pomfrey's stern yet concerned face. There she was, in her usual nurse clothing, standing with her wand already in her hand, completely ignoring the chaos that was happening inside her medical wing.

"Okay, get off the stretcher and stand there by the other side of the corridor if you want. Don't come in" Madam Pomfrey said as she nudged him away from his position on the stretcher and started rolling it into the medical wing…

"Alright people, out!!!! Anyone who is not dying, has a medical profession or has given a healer's oath, get out!!! Now!!!!!!" Kingsley heard her yelling and soon found out why. It appeared that Dawlish in his effort to follow protocol, has informed the ministry of what's happening which prompted the minister and a few other employees to arrive here in Hogwarts promptly…

Ugh, He really should try and talk to the guy about priorities… still now is not the time. The corridor is already getting crowded by all these people.

'Should I start making a perimeter?' He asked himself but found that he didn't actually want to do anything for a little while. All that adrenaline was leaving his body and now he was a little bit tired…

Let's wait for Bones to arrive and then start doing the job…

[ Poppy Pomfrey POV ]

"Alright, now that the peace and quiet has returned to my medical wing, let's start casting diagnosis spells and figure out where to go from there…" she ordered as she moved towards Albus's head, where she gently adjusted its resting position before she started casting all the diagnosis spells she knew…

She grimaced slightly as the feedback she got, but the most pressing matter is to try and isolate, and if possible, negate all the curses that afflict him before applying anything else.

She looked up and saw her fellow healers, newly arrived from St. Mungo's, sharing a look of understanding, and she knew they had all come to the same conclusion.

"Alright, let's start by casting every anti-jinx, anti-curse and affliction negation spell we know and then we'll see where to go from there…" Healer Robinson, the head healer of the team of three that arrived said as he started twirling his wand in a circular motion…

This is going to be a long day…

[ Minerva McGonagall ]

Minerva found herself standing in the corridor leading to the medical wing, next to Flitwick, Sprout and Pomona. The mood was somber but that was understandable. The news of Albus's injury has reached a lot of people, coupled with the fact that they don't actually know what had happened…

They didn't know what happened, who could have possibly been able to put the strongest wizard alive today into such a dire state, or even how could all of this happen without them even knowing anything…

How could it happen without her knowing anything about it. She'd been friends with Albus for more than five decades and even she didn't know anything about any of this…

All she knew was that he asked her to take care of the final preparation for the new school year by herself because there was an emergency that needed his personal attention…

" Do we know who fought him? Why? Or anything else really?" Flitwick whispered, but she heard him loud and clear…

"No, no we do not… we don't know anything…" she replied, her words sounding hollow…

"Don't worry, it's Albus, he's going to be fine in no time" Pomona said, her voice choked and hoarse, though her tone sounded like she was trying to convince herself rather than assuring them…

"Yeah, it's Albus…" her words were cut short as they all suddenly felt it. The world seemed to come to a sudden halt. For a few seconds, it felt like the world was judging something before it all suddenly changed. The magic around started to get active, more active… it started getting denser, more alive, no, more lively, more celebratory…

And then as if the sudden change was not enough, everything started to glow, waves of magic coming out of the medical wing, warm, gentle, and almost holy?. It felt purer than any Patronus magic she'd ever felt… it brought tranquility, calm, and peace.

What's happening?….

X_

Nietzsche had it right… "if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you," I thought sarcastically as I stood… somewhere, staring into the impossibility that is this place.

Am I even standing? I don't rightly know. I have been here, in this position—whatever it is—for God knows how long.

Am I dead? I don't know… but I think I might be…

It's all jumbled up here inside my head. The last thing I remember is a flash of light, pain, and then waking up here—wherever this is…

Hmm, I have a feeling that something is watching me, but I don't see anything. Or, better yet, I don't think I am using my eyes to see things. It's unsettling…

"Ok, you'll do," I heard something say… Did I actually hear the words, or is this like my eye situation?…

"Umm… hello?" I tried to speak, like one normally does, but I don't think I succeeded. Sure, I spoke, but I didn't use my mouth…

"Ok, listen up. You don't have much time, so you have to quickly decide what comes next, okay?… Ok, let's get started. You died. You were kicked out of your world's natural reincarnation cycle. You arrived in the &$&$& by accident, or maybe luck, depending on how you look at it. All caught up now?" The something? I don't actually know what I am looking at, or if I am looking at anything really. I just heard? No, more like understood the things they conveyed…

"Yeah, sure, let's go with that…"

"Good. Now, before your existence starts to unravel before me, let's get this over with, okay?… Okay." The somewhat cheerful? tone doesn't change the gravity of the statement, but I kind of don't care? I don't know how to describe it; it's more like I have, for some reason, wholeheartedly accepted that there's nothing I can do about the situation.

"Good, you're learning…Now here's the situation. A new upstart reincarnator (let's call him idiot A) got it into his head that he was powerful enough to start giving back to the community and reincarnate people into different worlds." The sarcasm was not lost on me. "That's not the problem, however, because let's be real, we have a lot of those out here. The problem is how they went about the whole thing… You following?"

"Yeah…" I lied.

"Okay, so idiot A selected a guy, a nice kid really, granted him a system and a wish. It's all good until here, right?…"

"Right…" no, it was not…

"Yeah. If only this idiot A didn't try to bite off more than he could chew, then we wouldn't need to be here, but as they say, there's no time for regret, so… Anyway, idiot A, in an unprecedented move of absolute idiocy, tried to merge two verses together, not caring about the differences, compatibility, the energy interactions, the reactions, or anything really… now if he had done this with some lone, disconnected or dead realities, then it wouldn't have been a big deal— because that's how the crossover realities usually form—and no one would have cared, but he did not… no sir, Idiot A decided to overreach and try and merge realities that are connected to some smaller or greater multiverse, causing damage that cost him his existence to fix."

Ok, I will just ignore the fact that this thing in front of me just implied that he ended the existence of the super powerful reincarnator (idiot A) who sounds like a Chinese FanFiction protagonist to me for some reason… and is talking about it like it's the most casual thing in the world, but then again—it might just be…

"I have read far too many FanFictions to claim ignorance, so I understand—but what do you want me to do? And as cliché as this sounds, why me?"

"Oh, well, I will send you there to prepare the world for the merger and prevent its collapse. If you fail, then I will be displeased and you die with those worlds… permanently."

Hmm, on the bright side, at least I will get to live again, right? Glass half full and all that…

"As for why you, well, to be honest, you were the closest thing I could throw at the problem without moving or wasting energy…"

'I feel like he's talking about a rag…' I thought, but oddly enough, I wasn't offended… This is so fucking weird…

"Anyhow, here are two things that'll help you in your endeavor." The thing said as he shoved something into me, my soul?… "After recycling idiot A's existence for the energy needed to prevent the collapse of that whole section of the greater multiverse and stabilize everything for a while." Oh, um, RIP idiot A… " I created your two boons with whatever was left, so that's all you are going to get until your mission is done…. Anyway, you'll have all the details in your head when you wake up, as you can't stay here any longer. Toodels… until we meet again…"

And that was the last thing the soul heard before he went hurling towards his new life…

"Phew, that was close… mortal souls are so fragile… now let's watch what he'll do and how he'd do it. It's always entertaining to watch these singularities rise to power…"

[Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore POV]

Okay, let me start by saying that I did not expect this to happen. I did not even see it coming. I have just become Albus too many fucking names Dumbledore….

Yeah, let that sink in for a minute.

I, a normal? person, from an ordinary world, have just, in one go, become the strongest wizard in this world.

Fuck yeah!!!! Let's celebrate!!! Wooohooo…

Okay, okay, let's stop here for a second and think about everything first before we continue the celebration yeah?…yeah…

So what do I know?

First, I know that I died; the how is a mystery to me but that's not really important. I mean sure I was a guy in the beginning of his twenties but when had death ever cared about age…

Second, I was inside that place? If it could even be called that and met something? That gave me a mission to complete because it was too lazy to do the job itself?? At least that's the impression I got…

Anyway, that doesn't matter I suppose…

Third, It shoved something into my soul? And called it a boon, which now that I think about it, I know where, what and how to go about activating them but let's get back to that later….

Fourth, came my actual job? Mission or whatever it is that I am supposed to do here. Well, for starters, I have to prepare the beings of this world, be it wizards, mundane or magical creatures for the merger which will start going full throttle in five years—or more accurately, by the end of the fifth year…

As for how I go about it—that is up to me, I am only required to make sure that at least more than fifty percent of the world's population makes it alive by the end of it…

Next we have the system retrieval mission which is not that urgent—it's more of a side-mission—that wants me to find the boy who reincarnated here and press that cube I have sitting in my soul against his body and it'll do the job before disappearing.

I don't have to kill him or anything like that which was a relief as I am not killing a kid, no matter what…

And that's about it… at least for now… there'll be some side-quests later but those were not mandatory….

Anyhow, now that I understand what my mission is let's see about those boons I got…

As soon as I thought about them, two vials appeared in front of me. They looked like what you'd imagine pure energy and potential to look like if they're liquid and trapped in a bottle.

I knew what they are, and how to go about drinking them.

**Essence of the Archmage**

By consuming the essence of the Archmage you gain several boons:

• Perfect memory with infinite storage.

• Beyond genius level intellect (limited).

• Capacity to learn any 'magic' even unique ones upon seeing it once or understanding enough about it. This also includes things like Ki, Chakra, soul power, etc. (limited).

• Possess a supernatural reactor that can adapt to any supernatural energy to fuel spells, enchantments, powers, etc. This reactor provides a steady supply of power that will grow over time; right now you could use high consumption abilities with wild abandon and still not make much of a dent after a few hours.

• Can teach others systems even if they previously lacked the capacity. (Limited).

• Manipulate entire systems or combine them with experimentation. (Limited).

• Are capable of casting any spell as long as you have the energy, not requiring any extra element like a focus or materials. The time required to cast, if any, remains however.

**Essence of the Bright Lord,**

• Gain a superhuman body that is sculpted to your specifications. At its base you can throw fully armored men with little effort, punch large beasts unconscious with a single blow. Your body is similarly tough as well as swift in comparison.

Very intimidating and can instill fear even into the bravest of souls, even make the cowardly fall over dead from pure shock and fear from your presence.

Can manipulate spirits/souls and consume souls to increase your power in various ways.

• Mastery over extremely pure power that has a variety of uses ranging from curing any disease, restoring the target back to their true form, blessing warriors with holy abilities, slaying demons and binding angels, and purifying or enchanting items, buildings, and even land. There are bound to be even more possibilities if you just look hard enough.

• Can sense any corruption or infernal power within something or someone even if they are suppressing it.

• Quite capable at taking someone and breaking them down as a person and rebuilding them into whatever you wish.

• Can find willing henchmen/troops even in places where it might not seem probable and in decent numbers.

• Superhuman skill at economics, logistics, politics, and other things needed to run a functional power.

Okay, I got to admit, if recycling the existence of one reincarnator allows the creation of insane stuff like this then count me in… but you know, not now, when I am stronger…

Still these boons are incredible. Do you have any idea what I could do with these? Everything I can imagine.

Still, I need to start digesting, reorganizing and scrolling through my new memories right now so no spiraling…

Ok. I will be the first to admit that I was one of those guys that thought, bought into and enjoyed the idea of Dumbledore being a hidden dark lord… He was not.

Yeah, I just confirmed it, Dumbledore was just an old man, one that was raised in the nineteen hundreds mind you but a nice old man all the same.

He didn't have much of an agenda, other than leaving the world better than he had found it. He was considered a progressive person for thinking like that but that was also by the nineteenth hundred standards…

That alone gave me a great deal of relief… I was not a dark lord material. I was not cruel, I was not cold and I most certainly was not a psychopath.

He was strong too, far too strong by normal standards but that was due to his talent and hard work. He trained, a lot and studied more—still does even with how busy his days are.

Still, not everything is sunshine and rainbows for him. There was a reason for his apparent aging— which could be considered rapid by wizard standards—and that was result of the backlash of his blood oath with Grindelwald for you see, magical oaths do not discriminate.

Sure, it was Grindelwald who broke the oath first, but he too didn't abide by it and thus the rapid aging problem…

That of course will not be an issue any longer because he was already using his bright lord's essence to heal himself and negate all the harm done to his body, soul, and magic…

He could feel it already, the soft, warm and tingly feeling that washes over his whole being in waves.

'Ah~ this is life' he thought as he sat down in his mindscape which by the way looked like a more advanced Hogwarts library, with rows upon rows of shelves that are filled with books.

It had taken him a few tries, but he has succeeded in bringing his occlumency into a new advanced stage… one that he previously didn't even know existed outside of theory—because the magical discipline that is occlumency is a very complicated and very grueling kind of art. It requires a lot of self-control and discipline to reach the advanced stages and it starts with clearing the mind.

You clear your mind, you learn how to quickly bring yourself into a controlled state of mindfulness. After that you learn how to hide your thoughts and memories, you practice that until it's a second nature, then you learn how to make fake memories and direct intrusions towards them, it's only after learning all of this and more that you reach the state of being able to access and shape your mindscape…

It would have taken me a long time too, but my Archmage essence is a cheat that was already helping me…

' I am procrastinating' I admitted to myself. I have been trying not to think about how different the Harry Potter world I live in now from the stories I have read but then again, in here the story is actually real…

In this world there's no Harry Potter, instead we have the girl who lived, Harriet Potter. A cute little goth girl who lives with her 'Dog-father'… yeah, the Sirius of this world was outside of Azkaban thanks to yours truly.

It happened two years after his arrest when Dumbledore finally got enough time to visit Sirius in prison to ask him why would he betray his best friends.

What could that cruel loveless creature that calls himself Voldemort offer him that's worth such a betrayal. One that magic apparently did not find worthy enough to sever the magical tie between him and his goddaughter…

He learned the truth right then and there and escorted him outside of Azkaban and into the courtroom that same day.

Sirius got his act together after about three months of intensive healing, therapy, and training, magical and mundane training ( Sirius still denies that he took a two weeks parenting course in France), then and only then was he granted the permission to take Harriet with him and raise her.

The second difference is that the actual magical training for young witches and Wizards starts by the age of sixteen. Those who choose to enroll while younger —and most of them do—are those who come to Hogwarts to study philosophy, languages, history, magic theory or any other mundane subjects… that means even though there are kids in the castle all year long, they don't actually get to practice magic or own a wand before they are sixteen.

The third change is the fact that the world is a lot bigger than just Britain and the dangers are just as numerous. From dark lords, to cults, to magical creatures attacks… you name it…

The last but not least was the anomalous events and magical phenomena that has been plaguing the world for the past decade. From new magical creatures, to ley lines shifting events, or even those stray devil things that were found from time to time.

That was also what Dumbledore has been fighting before the merger of our souls. A Voldemort who is using a stray devil as a meat suit… and wasn't that a nightmare inducing thing.

It all started with Dumbledore getting a call about a stray devil being sighted near Hogwarts which prompted him to leave immediately. It was only after he arrived that he figured out that it was a trap…

"Sss…Dumbledore…sss" that was all it took for him to figure out that this was Voldemort, the venom, hate and anger loaded into that hissing was all he needed to confirm the situation.

The battle itself was not as refined as you'd expect. It was just Tom throwing death curses, energy blasts or fiendfyre at him while he retaliated with transfiguration, elemental transfiguration, blasting curses and that one diabolica flames by the end to make sure Voldemort was dead… he was not but at least the shade controlling the stray devil was… maybe, he didn't actually remember as his consciousness was already fading at that point…

Anyway, after going through my new memories a few times, I have already figured out which worlds are merging with mine… at least one of them…

It was DxD. A world where god is dead and titties are the ultimate power up… yeah, I'll go back to procrastinating and not thinking about this…

Now it's time to decide what to do? People are going to notice how different I am from Dumbledore, and I don't want to explain why. Rule number one to reincarnation—you don't talk about the reincarnation…

So how am I going to do this? Because by now, I have no doubt that everyone and their mother have noticed my change. This I can explain by saying I ascended into the rank of Arch-wizard. There's already Merlin's case so this will give me a leeway and a believable story.

The only problem that remains is my mentality. Sure I have more than a hundred years of memories but I was still mentally in my twenties. Don't ask how, or why, I don't know. It's probably something to do with that being? Thing?…

And then there's the horniness, with a supernatural body that is at the peak of what could be, and my mentality… yeah I need to do some more planning.

X_

Whilst Albus Dumbledore is thinking of how to act and what to do, the world was already freaking out.

The healers were standing by the door now, doing their best to stop the professors, Aurors, minister, and pretty much everyone that arrived to see what's happening.

" For the last time Minister, no one is entering my medical wing until Dumbledore himself wakes up and explains…" Poppy's exhausted voice bounced off the corridor walls.

"You can't do that!! I am the Minister…" Cornelius Fudge, the aforementioned Minister of Magic was about to start running his mouth again but the hand placed on his shoulder stopped him in his tracks.

The hand belonged to Amelia Bones, the head of magical force department otherwise known as the Aurors. She was a tall and beautiful woman, who also happened to be the wife of Sirius Black, her deputy and head of house Black… a very big player on the political side of things, one that even the Minister couldn't ignore, even if he usually tries…

"What can you tell us about the situation Madam Pomfrey?" Amelia asked.

"Like I told your Aurors and everyone else before you arrived, we don't know. We have just started the healing process when everything started. His magic started going haywire before settling down, then the quality and quantity of his magic started shifting, growing stronger than ever. After that he started releasing these bursts of pure magic, which started healing him and everyone around; all the curses we couldn't counter were cleansed, his body started getting younger and as you can see, he hasn't stopped releasing the healing waves of magic yet…" Madam Pomfrey explained, her voice tinged with no small amount of respect and reverence.

"Sigh, I was afraid you would say that. These magic bursts are influencing everyone and everything in and around Hogwarts. I am sure you could already tell…" she stopped talking and sighed. She knew this conversation was not going anywhere, and that Poppy won't allow them to get inside.

They can't use force either because they are inside Hogwarts… that and they are deathly afraid of pissing Albus off…

This situation wasn't even unique to them as almost everyone around the world could tell that something very big just happened. Ministries, governments and all kinds of magical governing bodies around the world were scrambling for answers. Sending messages and asking for information about what happened.

By the time Dumbledore wakes up, pretty much every wizard, witch and their grandmother will know that he was the cause. They would have so many theories that his ascension to arch-wizard rank would seem like the most plausible and believable one… it was like the world itself was helping him set the story…
