Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Synthex

"Just a few more touches to add to it, then it will be ready boss!" a tall man wearing a lab coat said, he was currently in the process of transferring file data to a blue hard drive. "Great, when it's finished, I'll test it on the new bot." another man spoke, fingers gliding across the many science books on the shelves. The scientist working on the hard drive, lifted his head "Gonda? have you heard back from the big boss about that bot anyway? last I heard, he planned on using the prototype, Synthex on that bot. I believe-"

"Yeah, we all have heard. But I don't know if that's even a good idea. it would be a waste to use that thing on a fully functional, better version of a prototype robot." Gonda cut him off.

"The prototype, Synthex, was meant to be the first virus that one can fully control. It was supposed to follow orders. That thing has a mind of its own and makes its own decisions, it's dangerous Tinbo." Gonda said, crossing his arms. "I don't really understand the bosses' goal here giving that thing to a fully functional robot. I just wish he would give it up already, or maybe someone breaks in and steals it or something? I don't know." Gonda said, rolling his eyes.

Suddenly, as if his wishes were answered, the alarms began to go off. blaring sirens, lights flashing as the doors began to close off one by one. this building, Voxgen'sFacility, was being robbed.

and sure, they had stuff stolen before, but never from the main lab. the building was as tall as the empire state had been in the past, probably even taller. it was the pinacol of Neon City, protected and heavily guarded.

so how? how in the world could anyone break in without notice?

(30 Minutes before the alarms went off)

Juno brought her wrist up to her face, pressing the screen of her watch on hand, a bunch of digital screens began to appear in front of her face. she scrolled through them all, until she found the 'Map' icon. Pressing it, she could see all the routes of entrances and exits that Dex recorded over the years, plus where guards were stationed. this was a suicide mission, but if she didn't do this, she'd die from her own powers anyway.

so, what did she have to lose? "Juno, be careful, I don't think 9 lives have been developed yet so were not yet fully in a videogame. I personally don't think you should do it." Dex said as he consistently checked the cameras. Juno rolled her eyes and put on the climbing gloves that Dex had given her, and she began to climb the wall of the building.

she would stop moving as soon as she would hear movement. Pressing a button on her gloves, it turned her invisible. of course, she'd have to use this strategically. the gloves battery power often didn't last long if she was using it with the climb and invisible settings on at the same time. Dex didn't make these though; he bought them from a Cheapside store named 'Crevis', as a good find for their future adventures.

Finally, after what felt like forever of a climb, Juno made it to the 5th floor. she wasn't even halfway to the marked location on the map. she didn't climb inside just yet, since Dex was currently in code space, trying to shut down the buildings alarm systems.

eventually he succeeded, but it wouldn't be long until they got it back up. it would take a few minutes but Juno already knew that, her and Dex talked about it beforehand.

Juno then climbed through the window, onto the 5th floor, lucky for her it was a closet. inside it were work uniforms, which would be great for a disguise. but that was not the plan.

Juno looked up, seeing there was a vent she took out her screwdriver and began to undo the bolts. this was all tedious work, but if all went well it would be worth it.

Juno stood on the boxes stacked in the corner, and hoisted herself up into the vents, curling her legs in and then closing the vent. this area would be her escape route once she got the hard drive.

crawling through the vents, she would stop and look through some of them, a familiar prison she wanted to forget. she was glad to finally be free from that controlling life, but at times she missed being normal. being human. she was almost sure her mother at least, missed her.

with a shake of her head, she continued on through the vents, eventually coming to a dead end, the room ahead, according to her map, contained the hard drive she was looking for.

Before jumping down from the vents, she checked to make sure no guards were usually stationed there, and that nobody was walking around.

the troubling part about this situation was, she actually didn't have a plan after getting the hard drive, besides getting out through that closet on the 5th floor.

which now that she thought about it, she might have to reconsider that plan now.

"Well, let's do this." Juno said to herself.

she quietly opened the vent and poked her head out. barely anyone was watching this hard drive, if it was so important, then why wasn't anyone treating it like it was?

nevertheless, Juno slowly climbed down and out of the vent, landing as silently as possible, and closing it. as soon as she was on the floor, she heard voices coming her way. "Shoot!" Juno muttered, frantically looking around.

her only way out of this one was to silently take them out or knock them unconscious.

she Quickly and quietly went and hid behind a wall as the two women came closer and closer, she noticed they were about to go into the room she needed to enter. She silently then followed them into the room, seeing that not a single person was in there, Juno saw this as an opportunity, she came up behind the two, and hit them both in their Jugular, causing their bodies to collapse to the floor, unconscious.

she really didn't want to get blood on her hands, so she preferred temporarily putting people to sleep better.

Juno stepped over both of their bodies and made her way to the center of the room. she needed a level 10 authorized key card to open the case the drive was in.

Juno turned to the two woman and went back over to them. kneeling down, she began checking them until she found a level 10 key card on one of them. "This must be my lucky day." she remarked.

walking back over to the case, she put the key card in and turned it, then the case began to open. she grabbed the drive and put it in her bag and decided to also keep the key card just in case. though if they found it was gone, they would probably deactivate it.

"Alright, time to get out of here." Juno said, opening up her watch and scrolling through the holographic screen, she pressed on Dex number and unmuted him. "Dex, can you teleport me home? I don't really feel like fighting for my life today" she asked.

Dex sighed, he had told Juno not to do it, and she did it anyway. "No, I can't, the machine isn't ready, I still need important parts. however, I can code in extra invisible time on your gloves, it's really the best I can do. if you can get to where you came in from earlier, you will be good until you get out of there." Dex said, before entering code space.

Juno looked at her gloves and saw the numbers one thousand four hundred and fifty battery left, she wasn't sure how Dex did it, but he somehow managed to change the holding capacity of the gloves, and the amount of charge it had. "You just continue to amaze me Dex" Juno said in shock. she then pressed the invisible button on her gloves, now turning herself invisible once more.

this was right on time, as someone entered the room. Juno slipped by them and out the door before it could close. just moments after she left out, the alarms began to blare. Juno did her best to be as stealthy as possible, but it wasn't one of her strengths, that's for sure.

eventually, she had finally found the closet she'd come in through, however, someone was coming out of it holding something familiar to her in their hand, but she couldn't figure out where she had seen it before. she didn't have time to figure it out, she needed to go.

as soon as the person had walked out of the closet, Juno entered it before the door could shut fully. now that she was in there, she turned on the climbing function for the gloves and wasted no time climbing out of the window.

once she was down on the ground, she felt relief since she was afraid of heights.

she went over to her bike mona, and as soon as she got on, mona turned invisible as well. the more things needed to be turned invisible, the more power was used up on the gloves.

before riding off, Juno turned off the climb function on the gloves, and checked her bag, glad to find the drive safely in it.

at that time, she didn't know what it could do for her or would do to her.

but now, standing in Dex lab, looking at her hands. all she could really say was.

"It did absolutely nothing..."
